Howard Marks (AKA Mr. Nice) presided over one of the most notorious drug empires in recent generations. While petty dealers fretted over ounces and pounds, Howard oversaw a 30 tonne consignment of marijuana. Following his incarceration, he soon became a symbol of radical counter-culture, publishing a bestselling autobiography and inspiring a cult-classic movie. A strident supporter of free speech and drugs legalization, he’s made an indelible impact on our society, leading a life of great extremes. This is his story.

He certainly had an interesting life. I've met people who have never left their home town, but then you get people who have lived absolutely mental lives. Howard went all over Europe and Asia. I read his autobiography years ago. I couldn't put it down.

I laughed so fuckin hard at: "I was permitted to enter the Federal Bureau of Prisons". It was the not being permitted to leave, that was the problem hahaha God, I loved this man. I so wish that I could have met him! He was a qualified nuclear scientist, educated in Oxford and he said "fuck it", and smuggled drugs instead :D I loved his altruism, his kind nature and beliefs, and I adore the fact that he'd fuck the entire system to do what he thought was not only morally acceptable, but just really good fun. What a truly lovable rogue :) Rest in Peace, Howard.

What an utter legend. I was defo on the right of politics and still am I suppose but I love the spiritual character and determination of Howard and his fight against the establishment and authorities whilst making a rather large capitalist gain lol, a true adventurer, poet and rouge. Truly missed.

To Peter Davies. You patronising bastard. He didn't tie all the participants up and force them into that life.He never resorted to violence once.Never had anything to do guns.Never ever sold class A's.Even though all his contempories did at some point.Howards a hero.A true gentleman.A fucking rockstar. And he ain't here to defend himself.Which makes you an idiot. If you lived for a thousand years you could not even a achieve 1% of what he did.R.I.P.HOWARD MARX.Amazing guy.A legend.
