I just found this episode and ABSOLUTELY agree with your thoughts on the episode of This Is US and your marriage situation at that time. I'm literally living this life and my husband has not yet come to this revelation, about me. Military spouse and for 16 years with 3 kids.... pray my strength

🗣 Melissa! You are AMAZING and articulate the feelings of wives in a way we wish we all could. I have watched every video of the Love Hour and even attended the live show with my husband in 2018 in Houston. I love watching your journey and just wanted to tell you that you are an inspiration to me & I tell all my married friends about you and your book recommendations (which I have also read all of them LOL). 💞

Wow! I appreciate you both, but Mrs. Liss I very much appreciate your perspective as a wife. When you have an extroverted husband ( which I do) and an introverted wife, you tend to fall to the background while your husband gets all the praise for what you all have built.

I think there's an ingrained gender role aspect to this as well. Although nowadays it does happen the other way around, most often its women who feel more responsibility to hold down the house. There's an imbalance. Women's lives get centered around inside the home, supporting their man, managing the daily tasks of the household; men, even though they are primarily doing things to bring money into the house, get to center their lives outside. Not everything they do has to be centered around their wife and kids, they have the space to seek more. This whole "losing yourself in the marriage" thing is not just a function of being a strong woman vs a meek one either. It can happen to anyone, especially the way our society and gender dynamics are set up. This imbalance exists and men don't always notice it bc it's to their benefit. That's why a woman will feel like "You let this happen." Even in some of the things Kev said. A lot of men will say "well, just *say* you need me to do this or that chore" and not understand why that frustrates the woman. Well, you not seeing the stacked up dishes and me swamped - it just underscores that imbalance.
@monmon-vk8rz4 жыл бұрын
And part of why it's so uncomfortable when the woman starts pursuing goals outside the home. Yes it's a sudden change in dynamic, but it's also just....not how we expect things to work. We default to the expectation that the woman is supposed to be centered around the home
