I'm grateful for this & I'm processing being overwhelmed with anger at so many influences that negatively impacted my mind & heart towards my partner & sex. I'm focusing on the fact that this purity complex has kept me from a lot of pain, but being aware of the source of these brakes as well as other details that I can only share in private, is low-key infuriating. I'm actively forgiving the people who harmed me & I'm reminded that righteous anger can go hand in hand with healing & motivation to keep striding towards overcoming the guilt & shame & manipulation & deception. Every time I learn something helpful, I remember so many women I trusted telling me I couldn't trust myself or my partner due to their own experiences. That has haunted what was supposed to be a beautiful event. Then, I remember that their entry into sexuality was grounded in trauma. So, they repeated what they were taught. I keep finding new anger. I have to take a breather.

Oh my gosh! It was overwhelming to reach satisfaction with him. He got me there but (& I've already shared this with him) it was so intense I didn't know how to continue. I know that aggravated him & I wish we'd had the understanding of each other that we have now because we could've talked about it & we could've reassured each other. I shared my misconceptions & irrational fears with him much later & he definitely became kinder & I imagine he felt like he'd done something wrong for a long time because that was the response available to me at the time. We don't have to keep apologizing for everything. We can literally do it better.
@tashmoore38254 жыл бұрын
To be fair, there are things we both mishandled but the part where walls went back up everywhere contributed to anger, sadness, & mistreating one another in ways we have begun to overcome. I'm feeling better after I've processed some more but I'm receiving grace to be honest with myself that my understanding is still very much a work in progress & so is his.
@tashmoore38254 жыл бұрын
Helping me feel safe & cared for in general helps me feel safer about sex. Humor helps me to relax as long as it's not directed at insulting me & I have worked on the same & will probably need it pointed out when I do make mean comments as they are a fear response. Lack of safety & affection are hard brakes. From what I've observed over the years, we both have attention deficits & sometimes spread ourselves too thin to the point where there's hardly any attention or consideration left for one another & that's something I don't want to repeat with our family. Example: I could become so involved with the baby that I ignore him. And then justify it instead of correcting course. That's an easy way to lose focus. Work, friends, etc. Carving out (schedule) time helps me stay excited. Physical answer is easy, he's already a 10 body wise for me. Body hair, whoo hoo.

I can understand what y’all were saying about the church teaching about sex being wrong/bad. There’s so much neg talk from the Saints about anything related it makes you suppress your desires to the point where even flirting feels wrong. As a single I worry about this issue when I get married. Thanks for being transparent!!
@ChelsaSMoore5 жыл бұрын
Same here sis! That's why I love this podcast! This conversation is important for singles as well. For those of us who are saving ourselves for marriage, we don't need to go off exploring or anything but we do need to prepare your hearts and minds. Amen saints! LOL! jk But seriously, I think we should explore what intimacy looks like beyond the physical and unpack our beliefs about sex. Because many of us were taught that it's sin before marriage and that's it! As Melissa stated, sex is not just intercourse, it's our psychological beliefs and social constructs that drives us to desire sex! This makes so much sense! #Unlearn
@lh6715 жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly, if we aren’t allowed to acknowledge these things until we’re married it’s too late. There’s no magic switch that undoes everything we’ve been taught to feel about our sexuality.

So 10 years into my marriage I discovered "Intimate Issues: Twenty-One Questions Christian Women Ask About Sex" by Linda Dillow and it opened my eyes about the effects of the way the church addressed the subject of sex and helped me break out of the "sex is bad" mindset. It's been 17 years since I read it, so I don't remember all of the content to say how good a reference it is, however, at the time, I tried to get a group of women from church to use the book as a married women's bible study, and once they got the book and reviewed it, nobody wanted to openly discuss it.
