Okay, I just started watching this video so I have no idea how it is going to turn out but watching you put the body flares in makes me think it would be so cool if you had a window there that could open and a countertop could slide out to make an outdoor kitchen. Inside when the weather is bad and outside when the weather is good.

Thanks for the amazing and inspiring video. I love the design of the interior. I kept finding myself saying, yep love that color combination over and over. I also really liked the video door bell idea to help you see out on the side of the van with no window. I hope after you've finished the how to video series and you've had a few relaxing adventures in dear old Frank you can let us know how everything is holding up. 👍

Just wondering....any idea how much extra weight the van has taken on? Will the suspension have to he modified as well? Great job.
@thelwood2 жыл бұрын
That is an excellent question! I haven't weighed it yet. But I definitely kept weight at the forefront of my mind while building and I believe I am well under any need for modification. I do plan to have it weighed. Weight is a big reason why I left the back "garage" simple and didn't add a bunch of slide out trays. Heavy duty drawer slides add weight quickly. I also tried to keep almost all of the weight between the wheels. That is why I put the electrical system as far forward as possible and balanced that with water on the other side. The van doesn't squat at all but it is a much smoother ride since converting. I feel confident that the weight is pretty good. 😃 Thanks for your question!
@a.e.mendoza2 жыл бұрын
@@thelwood Indeed a great question, just to piggyback, once you get that weighted info, mind sharing your mileage numbers difference...As I hear NV2500 doesn't get very good mileage as it is stock. Very curious to know the impact after the build, both town and highway miles. Many thanks, I want to build a 2500 as well.
@MaxZ_stuff2 жыл бұрын
That's my headache too. Now I'm looking for sheeting lightweight material. With laminated plates it will add around 200kg. With extra floor layer +100 more. This leads to 1000kg of spare weight. 2150 empty, 3500 full load. So even with all wood it must be enough. But still, less weight is better.
@douglasPmn Жыл бұрын
This was my question as I was watching you do excellent work. I was wondering how much weight was added with all the wood you used. Before, after demo and final weights would be excellent to know.

just found your videos of the pull out larder and double draw and now this- all fab!! Thanks so much for sharing! at around 13.54 in the film you add a clever flexible (I think) grey panel to overlap the ceiling wooden slats and the gap at the back- what material is that? As I get nearer to this stage it would be great to have some tricks to tidy things that are difficult to keep neat! Thanks again!

Hello, I'd like to know how much it costs to build a camping car.
@thelwood Жыл бұрын
The range is huge for the cost to convert something. I probably put about 13 to 15K USD into this conversion. Really depends on what level of electrical you want to add to your vehicle.

@@yaoshengxie1611 it definitely draws a fair amount of power, but usually within 20 minutes the solar panels have replenished the batteries. If you like to cook things that take a long time propane is probably best. For things like eggs and quick stuff I have been very pleased

Cringed a little when he put that edge board down at the back of the floor - that “staining” is mildew in the wood and is only going to get worse with no sealant. There should be NO RAW WOOD anywhere in a van, because there will be moisture in the floors and walls (especially if you spend a lot of time in humid environments) no matter what you do and “drying” is really difficulty since you have an impervious metal shell. Not trying to be critical, but no one talks about this other than The Frugal Factor and Greg Virgoe - watch their channels if you’re planning a build.

I bought most of my tools used so I have less invested in my shop than what I paid for the van (pre conversion). I do a ton of woodworking, most of my tools are not necessary for converting a van.
