Fighting games always use color palettes even from other completely different franchises from different companies, anyway. I doubt the devs of Skullgirls or any other fighting game that features color palettes based on any other franchise by different devs had to ask permission for any of those, either.

I think it would have been fine. I mean I think it would have been a clever idea to have each character have a color palette of the MLP character that they were meant to represent for example Arizona would have Applejacks colors velvet would have had Ratitys color palette and so on. To be fair you cant really copyright colors as long as they aren't using any characters or music that Hasbro owns. it would have been a neat reference plus they've used color palettes of official mlp characters so I do t see the big deal.

GregariousGregor True but you could say the same thing about all the other franchises that they referenced. And they referenced A LOT of characters from a A LOT of franchises. If they were truly worried about legal issues they wouldnt do that. Plus again, they’ve referenced characters from mlp already but only through colors and nothing more. Once again you cannot legally own a color palette. If they were to use the colors of the mane 6 as a reference Hasbro wouldn’t be able to do anything about that.

@@bearmarion93 Yes, but most of those other references weren't DIRECT references to the game that got C&D'd. None of the MLP characters they referenced were featured in Fighting is Magic. Trust me, fair or not, it's very wise on their part not to make ANY reference to the game's original form. It already had some legal trouble once, so a fun reference isn't worth the risk.

Tianhuo got some great colors. Though, I'm kinda surprised that not all the girls got colors based on MLP characters. Each of them getting a color that referenced their Fighting is Magic counterpart would have been a nice touch. For example, Tianhuo getting the colors of her original template Rainbow Dash.

The Tennis Shoe palettes are all based on Dewdrop Dazzle, a twilight sparkle recolor with that color palette. Her palette was in Fighting is Magic as one of Twilight's colors and it became a meme there that was carried to this game.

These are what I could find after re-watching the video. 1:01 Based on Solid Snake from the Metal Gear series 5:02 Is based on TFH character Stronghoof, Velvet's father 5:23 -Is more than likely based on Xerneas; both deer, more matching color pallet, and the name of Xerneas' ability is Fairy Aura- Is in fact referencing Xerneas. Edit: So after talking to one of the developers a while back (Cam), I've been told that any skin with the "Mane6 Original" artist means it's a skin they developed and is either completely unique or is based on their own creations.

i’d say the aura palette is leaning more towards lucario, with the pokemon’s whole gimmick being the use of “aura”, not just an ability ;-) the colour distribution is reminiscent of xerneas though!

In fact, I think the Palette at 9:23 actually refers to the character "Sha" from The Walten Files (ARG), for me it's identical so I don't believe it's an original palette or something like that type.
