The MacMaster is back in Whitby for a third time to review another Fish and Chip Shop. As a wanted man in Whitby for giving their Fish and Chip Shops a bad name and telling Whitby to Hang Their Head in Shame he went back in disguise to review the Fish and Chips at Trenchers. All I can say is What an Embarrassment!

My god, I thought I was watching the love child of Bo Selecta and Tommy Cooper. Why keep the ferret on when scoring the meal? The only good thing about that meal was the actual fish. The batter was too greasy, not enough chips, pea pot made you think you were getting more. Way overpriced for what you got so unscorable.

@mcmaster hi , I was the guy who told you it was obviously a wig , hope I didn’t offend me and my family really enjoyed meeting you my little girl wants to be a KZbinr and it was funny watching you do your videos ! We were actually in your review and loved it ! We had an amazing week in Whitby ( and up and down the coast) touched lucky with the weather too !! We live in Windermere ( Lake District) so used to the tourist side of things and was really nice being tourists ourselves for the week ! I’m a chef in a seafood restaurant (HOOKED SEA FOOD RESTAURANT WINDERMERE) and honestly I’ve subscribed to your channel and mostly love your content, just please bare in mind just how busy the hospitality trade has been since Covid hit ! Mate we have been hit hard with the influx of staycation tourism and everyone seems to be a critic! But hands down the ones who don’t get it right and just rely on the foot flow of tourists are being found out this year for not keeping up with the standards !! At trenchers they used to always have a chalk board up telling you where each type of fish was caught, which I’ve not seen in any of the other places. I thought that was a nice touch. If you go again, try Silver Street Fisheries. That was always my family’s favourite with Trenchers a close second (we have never tried Mister Chips). Great video, keep them coming 👍🏻

Don't go to Trenchers, when I complained that fish, cod, had no flavour, the waitress said that cod doesn't have any flavour!!! Not been back, we go a little way out of Whitby to Sleights and Eskdale Fisheries, restaurant and takeaway, plenty of flavour.

When a disguise draws more attention than intended. You look like a cross between Hayley Cropper & Tommy Cooper. Instead of the baseball cap you should wear a red fez. As for the fish & chips i'd say they look above average but not top rated. A bit greasy & wouldn't consider it a large portion, just regular. Price isn't too bad for a tourist spot, on par with my local run of the mill chippies in Manchester.

That looked amazing compared to what you get most places in the New England area of the U.S. for that price, allowing for conversion. Here you get a piece of cod that size but when you get into it, its mostly batter on a skinny little filet half that size and is most of the time overcooked, and a lot of chips so it feels heavier when you walk out of the shop giving you the idea you got your money worth. I even got catfish at one place because it's really cheap and most Americans can't tell the difference anyway. I asked the guy at the fryer if he accidentally gave me the wrong order and he said they don't serve catfish only cod, haddock, or pollock. When I left the shop I walked around the back and saw catfish boxes in the trash bins, walked back in with one and asked why the only boxes behind the shop were labeled catfish or pollock and no cod or haddock. Apparently 3 of the 5 other people in there weren't too happy hearing my question and demanded to talk to the owner.

I got treated to a chippy tea at Trenchers by an old boyfriend a few year's bk ..Enjoyed the indoor restaurant very tasty haddock and chips 😋 .. I'm still loyal to Royal Fisheries tho that's just me ..Never had a bad meal yet top notch nosh 😉 .. I had fish and chips tonight in a restaurant here in Ontario. The batter was about 1/4 of an inch thick like it had been dunked in the batter mix about 6 times before frying ! It was 80% batter and 20% fish !

Over the years I have had haddock and chips at Trenchers, Quayside and The Magpie (sit in) and that order is from the worst to the best. Never been to Mr Chips, I think that is fairly new. My favorite seaside town by far. Only trouble with opening fish and chips in Whitby is the seagulls are liable to attack you and nick your lunch. If you want the best fish and chips you need to go to a chippy called Whitbys. I only know of two of them - one is in Doncaster (where I have not been)and the other is in Catcliffe, near Sheffield.

Went to Trenchers last year - our lass always raves about it, sorry but I find them very average, small portion size on the ‘regular’ and double the price of your local chippy. Hate the boxes, hate the dividers. Just a tourist trap I’m afraid, 4/10.

And whoever gives out the accolades for 'Best Fish & Chips' awards needs slapping around the head with a smoked kipper. Abd whats with the prices? I'm not being funny but £15 plus, per person for Fish & Chips? You can dine out at a decent restaurant for a similar price and you get much better food. Good video as always 👍🏻
