Great chippy, the same family own Royal which is just as good. Skin on Haddock for me please, more of an East Yorks thing nowadays but I was brought up on it in North Yorks and always seek it out.

We like this fish restaurant too and as your wife said we come for the day when staying in the area, have fish and chips, depending on the queue or a pie at the humble pie and mash shop which is so nice too… you need to try that , we do a bit of shopping, and have a bit of a mooch around. Although expensive most of them are nowadays Trenchers are one of the best borne out by the lengthy queues generally outside. Like you I prefer haddock but only with the skin removed so I go for the cod chips and the homemade mushy peas and tartar sauce are excellent too. Other chippys of note are The Magpie of course and Mr chips are a couple of my favourites too. But most places are not too much different either and ive been in them all. I can only remember being disappointed once and that was outside the fisherman's wife on Khyber pass which was strange as they were excellent when eating inside the restaurant.

Last time we came over on Xmas eve the queue for Trenchers was mental. Never been but apparently they are really good. Next time we come over we'll see if it's any easier getting a table. Defo won't be going to Papa's again after our last visit.

Trenchers is not my favorite either. I used to like Quayside first and the Magpie 2nd. Third was over the bridge and just up the road round the bend on the right - apparently the fire brigade kept turning out to put out the chimney fires lol. Can’t remember the name, been a few years now, prolly all changed now. Mrs M forgot to mention us visitors like to take home some of Fortunes kippers as well.

Too expensive i think maties,fish shop at back of boyes £23 for 2x large haddocks chips and peas approx, take out but duno prices in ther cafe, Riverside fisheries are even cheaper and bothe usually very good ,thats what i prefer but understand its nice for u bothe to have a sit down meal and togetherness in a very nice restaurant plus interesting footage, always a pleasure to see you bothe out and about 😊
