So I am a tour guide for Limassol. You were there on Carnival Sunday. It marks the start of Lent for 6 weeks and finishes on Easter Sunday. There is a big parade in Limassol about 3 or 4 km away from where you are down all the main streets inland from the seafront. People who attend the parade dress up in fancy dress but not everyone wants to do that. Hence some people in fancy dress some not! Also the mosque you viewed is an original Ottoman mosque, ftom 1600 when the Ottomans were in charge of Cyprus (1570-1878). In 1878 the Ottomans ceded control to the British and the rest as they say is history. The mosque is being restored and is still under renovation today, third week in August!

Imagine being in Limassol and then going to Café Nero for a coffee and something sweet. All the local offerings and you go to a multinational chain and then complain about the local parade because you got delayed a bit

I've been to Cyprus 4 times. Once to Paphos in 97 then Ayia Napa in 2000. Then Limassol in 2005 and 2010. Last time my wife had been in hospital with gallstones in the UK. They ultrasonic blasted them but put her on a 2 year waiting list to have her gallbladder removed. We went on holiday to Limassol where she became ill. Took her into hospital and removed her gallbladder and back to good health in just over a week. Operation probably cost £10k+. Cost to us about £7 in travel insurance.

I’m a bit confused by this vlog you seem to have spent your whole trip to Cypress complaining about how bad Paphos is, then you go to somewhere that looks really nice and very little is said about how nice it is. Has this become a channel only about complaining. Plus why would you go to another country to have a Cafe Nero?that isn’t even most people’s first choice in the uk. Limassol is a nice place - particularly during annual wine festival in the autumn. Larnaca is also very pleasant. I used to live in Dhekelia which is just outside of Larnaca. My father was in the British army. I spent two great summers when I was at university in the early 1980s. Good video.

Last time I saw Grand Harbour mentioned, they'd found a sunken barge full of WW2 ammo there. My ship might have been 'parked' directly above it! When I was there in 65, it looked like a bomb site.

It was carnival day. Took my dog for a walk in the morning along the promenade. Shame I didn't bump into you. Anyway had a few too many beers and ended up on a float in the carnival ; ) Cyprus is all about "off the beaten track". Such a small island with so many hidden gems at a stones thow. Again paphos is great, away from the harbour area and all the tourists.

Cyprus has history, beaches, a snow capped mountain range, fantastic food and wine.... Why not try it for yourself or are you the type of tourist that stays in their all inclusive resort for two weeks?

Hello Mack it’s been wonderful Looking at your videos. I have enjoyed a lot of the them especially the Australian ones, but as a Portuguese person I would love to recommend for you to go and visit where I was born, which is the island of Madera part of Portugal. It’s a small island but it is beautiful. It is clean and the food is fantastic and you will find the people. According to Wikipedia, you were there about 50 days prior to Orthodox Easter. It is called the Limassol Carnival Festival & runs from Thursday 7th March until Sunday 17th March in 2024. That sounds like the equivalent of Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday), when all the decadent foods were eaten up because they couldn’t be eaten during Lent, which is the lead up to Easter Sunday. This was before Mardi Gras was taken over by homosexuality, in direct contrast to devout Christians preparing for the solemn restrictions of Lent.

Good Evening Lee. This is what it is all about. Leave the Hotel, stay off the beach and just go out and Explore the side streets and the non Touristy areas of the place. I really did Love LIMASSOL TOWN!!!!!. So many different Greek Churches and i think i saw a Synagogue. I really liked seeing the people in there Costumes and just having Great Fun. You are never to old to jump up and walk along any wall. I Loved seeing the very Gorgeous and Beautiful Tortoiseshell Cat just relaxing and taking it's time doing nothing. I thought that it was something like a Carnival or Special Festival people were joining in having lots of Fun. I really do Enjoy these types of video Lee, no music, no sill graphics. Seems to be a lot more local inhabitants in the demographic make-up of Limassol, which always gives a place a particular positive vibe even in the off-season, and makes people-watching far more interesting. Even ignoring all that construction work, Paphos just had that bland generic look and bleak, jaded vibe of any other cookie-cutter tourist resort built solely for Brits taking their annual sun holiday.

I had an interesting time in limassol. I walked to a pub near my hotel and just as i was walking in someone chucked awhat i assumed to be a hand grenade under a taxi across the road it blew up. Went on a session that same night got back to the hotel about 4am noticed the lift was out of order walked upstairs went to bed and woke up and went downstairs across to the main building to find out that there had been a fire and my part of the hotel was evacuated. I then went for a walk down the road along the beach front and a Mercedes taxi crashed into a barrier literally a foot away from me.

It looks like there's plenty to see there and you enjoyed walking on the elevated footpath for the sea views. I would say the people were out trying to enjoy some fun for the day. Some of the outfits were a little eye-opening, but you get that. I'm guessing they were pleased with themselves and enjoyed making the memories. Maybe the sun wasn't shining today, but they probably have a decent dose of it most of the time, after all, it is the Mediterranean isn't it? 😀 Happiness points for the good coffee at the little cafe you went to for cheesecake. 😀 Sometimes you have to find the sunshine within yourself. - Me 2024 😀

Yes definitely go off the beaten track which i did more than once in Cyprus and once on the way to Aphrodite's rock just took a turning on the right off the main drag that led me into beautiful a little village where not far from where they produce the best cypriot wine..but the were some of the Cypriot soldiers eating there under like a big tent without sides but with their guns by their sides so i was a bit unsure at first if i should we stay or go.. because i was only 19 then and my girlfriend was only 18 so bit unsure untill we walked a little further and bumped into a lovely scruffy looking old man with a donkey which was carrying some empty wine bottles and just stopped him basically just to stroke the donkey and take some pictures with him then we offered him to take him for something to eat which he replied no you're okay but thank you but we insisted so we did and we started chatting to him about different things for ages and he told us he makes wine for a living and he asked us our names and asked his and he said just call me Marv and then he asked us where we live in the UK and he said I've visited the uk many times and many different countries and at that point we thought really by the way he was dressed walking a donkey carrying empty wine bottles..then he got a little pen and little not book out and wrote down his address and invited us to go and visit him beforehand we go back to the UK to try his wine out but advised us not to drive so you can both try my wine so get a taxi and give the taxi driver my address I've written down..but we were a bit unsure weather to but we did and OMG we reached the address our jaws dropped electric gates and all that and he and his family welcomed us with open arms and we stopped there the night and found out is real name was Mavro basically named after the grape Mavro and his one son was called Mavro aswell and the name goes back generations and he told us i always go down into the village to walk my donkeys because they like it down there and that's where they were born their and so he kept them down there in the village and the day we met him which we didn't know at the time he had basically taking one of his donkeys for a walk and had been around picking up empty bottles from off the beach and where ever else he saw any empty wine bottles to recycle ..moral of the story is never take anyone by first meeting someone and by their appearance 😊

I have been to Paphos 3 times in last 15 years and had great time. However if you don’t go May to Oct it can look like a ghost town in places. I like Paphos but it does look disgraceful in your video, no wonder you are giving it bad reviews. I would be looking for a full refund from my tour operator.
