O own a Mac Mini. My preview does not have the draw tool, only the sketch tool. Is there a way to add the drawing tool, since I use the mac with a wacom board?

For whatever reason, the Draw tool is only available on computers with a trackpad connected. So if you connect one it should appear.

I created a signature in Preview and it works great but for the life of me I can't get it to sync to iCloud and my iPhone. I'm using Monterey and iOS 15.7. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong?

It should just sync, make sure on iCloud on your phone and computer you have password and keychain turned on because that’s how it syncs. Were you able to find where it’s supposed to show up on the phone? (You have to click the plus button on the bottom right after you enter markup mode to get to the signature).. :)

How can you add (or insert) page numbers on Preview when you have a multi-page document? Thanks a lot in advance for details when replying. Thanks a lot for this vid as well!

Preview is not really made for adding a bunch of page numbers to a document. This is MUCH easier to do in word or pages before you generate a PDF. If you must do it follow these steps: 1. Locate the PDF and open it in Preview. 2. Show Markup Toolbar 3. Add a text box and position it, then type the page number 4. Copy the text and then go to each page and paste it This is a super tedious process, and I would only do it on a handful of pages. If you have to do it on dozens and dozens of pages I would use a different program than preview like Adobe Acrobat or PDF Pen… you can also use a program that does what is called “Bates Numbering” Ultimately I would try to address page numbers BEFORE the document becomes a PDF if at all possible.

good vid, thanks! it is very buggy on Monterey 12.6.3 -- locked up several times. I'd figure they'd have worked this out by now. Any better on Ventura? I bet not...

I guess it depends on what you're doing with it. If you edit a ton of PDFs and need high end tools, it may not do what you need, but for the average PDF user I find it pretty stable (certainly not perfect, but what FREE tool is perfect?).

That said, I used 'Scan Genious' to turn my original hard copy into the PDF. I'm guessing Preview sees the whole doc as an image, so I can't highlight text... any ideas how to easily get an editable hard document into my mac so Preview is able to 'see' the text for edting?

Preview is not really made for editing text directly, if that’s something you want to do I highly recommend using Adobe acrobat. It costs a little more, but that’s one of its main purposes.

Sometimes it won't let you eport to pdf because it is already a pdf. The best thing to do then is just to save it normally. It should still properly flatten it.

I did it the same way to a pdf application form in which I have to fill my basic details , BUT in the file section , export in pdf ISN"t HIGHLIGHTED . have to send it anyhow please help me its really frustrating

That may be because it’s already a PDF, is the export button lit up? You can use that too…

Hi, great video! I tried doing this but the Export to PDF is not clickable. I saw in one of your response that it might be because the file is in PDF already. In your example, the file is also in PDF too, so I'm confused what seems to be the problem? I tried doing it too in Pages but it doesn't let me sign as good as it is in Preview

Editing text from a PDF is intended to be difficult. This video is not made for answering THAT question. If you are on a Mac, I recommend either downloading the pro version of Adobe Acrobat or PDF Pen pdfpen.com. These are apps MADE for editing PDF documents.

When you say "delete", are you talking about fully editing a PDF? Preview can't easily do that, Adobe Acrobat is better for that, but you can always make a white rectangle and place it over the text, but it won't be perfect.
