The 2024 Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge is an over-the-board Chess960 classical tournament featuring Magnus Carlsen, Ding Liren, Alireza Firouzja, Fabiano Caruana, Gukesh, and more. The Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge consists of a rapid and a main event, both in the Chess960 variant. In total, there is a $200,000 prize pool to be played for at the Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort, Germany.

VERY cool event! Loving the 960, heart rate monitors, confession booth, and the commentary. 960 or a world championship are best to garner mass viewership if using a classical time control IMO. Edit: I also am a fan of a LACK OF EVAL BAR for the general commentators + viewers.

Very nice event: venue, format, features very cool and interesting. Commentary is superb. Peter makes these games so accessible and his enthusiasm makes the games even more exciting. Tanya complements him nicely with a more feminine approach - being more aware of the entire situation not only the chess. It doesn’t bother me that Peter is loud at times - I can turn down the volume and it’s part of being excited and enthusiastic over what happens on the board.

That Levon interview was actually quite entertaining, with Magnus it just feels too plain (I'm a Magnus fan but his interviews tend to be bland). Levon is way too candid and this interview ended up being a pleasure to watch. I'm glad I watched till the end :)

This. Black cannot castle because all the squares that would typically be free to castle queenside are not free. The king would be on the square the queen is on theoretically, so the king would have to "move through" the queen, which is not legal.
