The only thing missing in this explanation is how you can input a button, hold it down, and press a second button to get a move. Like, you can do 1+2 by doing a 1 jab, holding the button down, and pressing 2 while in the jab animation to get an immediate 1+2. You don't have to re-input the 1 if you're still holding the button down. This is very helpful for multi-throws and some tough combos.

This, and also why we use the word "buffer" and what it means. Inputting information to be stored before it gets used. Just like when a video is buffering, it is storing information so it can play the video smoothly in one go.

That's called button buffering and what mainman explained is input buffering, but yeah you are right it should have been included.

you might add: If you perform a string that consists of, say, 1, 2, 1 and the character doesnt have a 1, 2, 2 or 1, 1, 2 string, you can just start with 1 and mash 1+2 to finish it. Lucky chloes kickstring in the air after certain launchers, for example, can be done by mashing ki-charge, instead of getting the right 3 buttons one after the other. Knowing this for your character can also make some combos easier.

This is very well explained. I've told a good number of people about this over the past 20 years and their whole game got better. It's not hugely obvious and a lot of people never figure this out on their own. I personally couldn't do King's multi-parts on PS controllers without buffering way back when. I still kinda have to buffer 1+4 or 2+3 moves by holding one button down first if I'm being honest. There's a whole art to concealing what you're buffering... Julia has many strats based off just that. Faking neutral... ha!

People underestimate Yoshi’s Rage drive for this reason., it is i14 BUFFERABLE launching mid that tracks both ways. It’s basically devil-form-Kazuya’s EWGF except more damage, is buffer-able, has good tracking and can be used mid combo for an additional tailspin. Or, used as a -14 launch punish. Electrics and death fists not being bufferable is not necessarily because of the "stance" and moreover because they require a motion input. Directional buttons, attack buttons or a combination of them can be buffered and the game will execute your order at the exact frame your character isn't recovering anymore. Which is why you can do a jet upper or non-motion-input requiring punishes after a block. But in case of a DP or QCF what is the game even supposed to buffer? That's a subsequent order of inputs that can't be "prepared" the way a single input could.

@anubis_fgc2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion that’s not quite a buffer as much as a cancel. There are only specific moves that allow an instant transition to KIN (b2, b21, ff3, SS4 etc.), and I would call that “cancelling into KIN” (because the recovery animation of the move is interrupted by the stance). Yoshi does have bufferable stuff though, something that works in low ranks is 22 into qcb1+2 (throw). d,db,b can be input while the 22 animation is active. =)

I'd like to add to the Bryan buffering.. you can really really buffer his taunt if you know what you're doing.. like his Homing 1+2 - you can just hold the 1 button even after the hit/blocked hit and just tap 3+4 and you'll get taunt at the perfect range provided the opp doesn't move.. HOWEVER TJU is still harder than the electric imo.. and getting his taunt to be homing in higher ranks is even harder. That 16f Window is there for eh .. a fraction of a second. not only that - if you mess up - here comes some bozo char with a HIgh evasive launcher... If you watch inkog play he buffers 3+4 dam near the whole match this way he only taps 1 to get the taunt when he needs it
@Kwuivery2 жыл бұрын
He should’ve included buffering as in holding 1 button down and pressing and different button creates a blank plus blank button, like if u press 1 for a jab and u want to do heihachi 1+2 u would press 2 while holding one and you’ll get it

thank you so much for this explain, I came to Tekken 8 from Dead or Alive series, I tried demo with Paul and found something wrong with input and perform his move like death fist, I'm trying to find out what is wrong, now I know Dead or Alive input system was always buffering in every moves! You can input a ton of notation during animation and it still perform that move, while in Tekken some moves can buffering and some moves are not allow it! Some moves require stance (neutral stance, crouching, dash), and some require complete of animation before perform!

Can you only buffer the movement inputs of a move and you still need to time the respective attack buttons to complete the buffered move at the end of the initial move's recovery? Or can you buffer all inputs of a move during the animation of a leading move and once that move completes, the buffered move will just come out automatically?

The former.
