Its HUGE its RED and lit up like a Christmas tree making more noise that a Rave party and yet people just ignore all this.. To busy on their cell phones or just wrapped up in their own little world. Now as a driver i know you cant always tell from where all that noise is coming from, but you just use your eyes and drive slow towards a junction. ( intersection ) incase you meet the big red fire machine.

And you bring up a good point tho if I'm not mistaken tho we can't use blue lights that's indicative of law enforcement and orange and white being Ems. And red being fire department. I guess that's why you see alot of fire engines and ladder trucks going with a bright green and yellow paint scheme assuming it would help other people to see our lights. Curious on what you think about this.

I’m a retired firefighter/EMT, retired in 2017, living in a medium large city in the south. Won’t say the state, but that doesn’t matter. We have the same nonsense from citizen drivers here as well. The worst drivers are those who go into a panic and don’t know what to do and freeze up. I was making a run to a structure fire in the far eastern part of our run district. I was in the opposing lane going east in west bound at a 4 way intersection. Pretty much had everyone’s attention and they stopped, except this one smaller car headed north with 2 girls in it. The driver looked right at me, laughed, and pulled her car in front of my truck and stopped, laughing the whole time. I really wished that for once there was a cop nearby, but I never was that fortunate. They finally moved enough so I could get around them. Driving emergency vehicles is literally an art form because you haven’t a clue what a driver will do and you can’t take for granted the people will do what they’re supposed to do. Fortunately I never had an accident, but it’s happened way too much. Years ago, I told my chief that Lockheed’s stealth technology was a waste of money. Paint those aircraft red, put a red flashing light and a siren on them and no one can see them!

@megandunnett79004 жыл бұрын
Okay i agree that most of these are jerks, but from what I could one of those videos was just a bunch of cars lined up at the traffic lights waiting their turn. They’re not emergency vehicles, they don’t have agency to just run them when an emergency vehicle comes around the corner behind them. If I am wrong and there was perhaps a car coming the other direction that wasn’t paying attention then I apologise, but it certainly wasn’t clear from the imagery. Also, heck no, we had the people LIVING NEXT TO THE HOSPITAL complain about how loud the ambulance sirens are in our town. I know it can be annoying, but as far as I am concerned if you choose to live that close to emergency services you gotta get used to it, or fork out for some noise abatement like double/triple glazing, or noise cancelling headphones (which these days I’m pretty sure you can Bluetooth to your phone so you can still hear your alarm in the morning🤔) or something similar.

I'm retired now but when I was an active duty police officer, whenever I saw a fire engine or ambulance responding to a call, I used to lay back and shadow them looking for these idiots. Failing to yield or move over for an emergency vehicle, passing a stopped school bus with lights activated and speeding through a school zone were some of my favorite tickets to write and unfortunately, there were a lot of violators to catch which makes me wonder who taught them how to drive and did they forget what they studied in the driving manual to study for their drivers license test because the excuse I would hear the most is "I didn't know!"

Amazing. In England Fire Appliance drivers get no special legal entitlement, they have to treat joe public like any other road user. You can speed but if you have a crash, you have to be able to justify why you were speeding. I was driving on a fire call when a car stopped for me and the car behind, hit the car in front from behind. When I got back to the station the driver of the car that hit the car in front was waiting for me and wanted my insurance details saying it was my fault. Also you are not suppose to use the sirens unnecessarily and not between 23.00 and 07.00 (only if no option). Crossings have to be passed at 5 MPH etc. The horns are used in England but rarely and drivers are trained to have low expectations of UK drivers skill levels. Also there are no laws or fines for drivers who don't yield to fire engines. The only time I ever got into a spot of bother was on the M25, attending a RTC. Arriving at the job my Station Officer was pointing at me to put the pump in one direction and a Police officer was pointing at me to put the pump in a different direction. I ignored the copper and did what my Station Officer wanted. A few minutes, later I got bollocked by my StnO for ignoring the copper. With a smile on his face he said, "you've been bollocked, don't ignore the instructions of a Police Officer, its an offence". Only in England.

Special privileges for emergency vehicle vary from state to state. In Pennsylvania, there are state laws and departmental guidelines that dictate how the driver of any emergency vehicle must operate it. They basically just boil down to keeping your head on a swivel, don't let the lights and sirens give you tunnel vision, and don't drive so bat shit insane that it gets a cop's attention.

manuel martin why expensive? It’s literally less than 5 seconds for a car to get across. Now if they are purposefully cutting in front of a fire truck, then yes. Give them a ticket or maybe even pay for the damage dealt at the call they were going to. Sweet revenge 😈
@Horizon301.4 жыл бұрын
Stafford Northern Railroad I have seen where incidents have involved police being hit etc while on call due to drivers not paying attention. They got reported for driving without due care and attention. Perhaps dash cams and then report such issues to the police, any accidents would involve the police anyway though I’m sure as their cars would be demolished by these fire engines. New York seems to be really bad for drivers not giving way to emergency vehicles sadly, especially with the air horns.

@@NOVARailandWeatherEnthusiast i dont think you would feel the same way if you or your family was the one that needed the truck to help survive.seconds count on alot of situations and it tells me that when emergency lights and sirens cant get your attention to move well that driver probly had no clue about whats going on around them it goes deeper them seconds delay .its bad dangerous driving with a narrow mind and not giving a shit what or who os around them .for you to think its about money anfd to much to spend haveing a cop follow well your more then likely a person who will block emergency trucks .so rethink your ignorence and remember your mot the only one on the rd and it may be you needing that truck one day hope not but you never can tell .

I drove in a fire department in the 70's and the problem hasn't gotten any better. Biggest fact is...people DO NOT PAY ATTENTION and PLAY THEIR MUSIC soooo loud, they can't hear anything outside. REMEDY... when approaching intersections. Fire Truck Driver hits instant switch to TURN opposing ALL TRAFFIC LIGHTS RED. Won't stop the idiots but slow them down IF they Obey the Rules they Ignore.

I was told by a friend in the London Fire Brigade a few years ago that if their truck is blocked by a vehicle that shouldn’t be where it is, they are authorised to push it out of the way with their truck. The owner is charged for any damage to the truck. I’m not sure how true it is now.

Well to be fair, the first clip wasnt only the civilians fault. Going through the straight lane to then immediately turn right and expect every driver to notice the tiny indicator light is a bit dangerous. Although the driver should´ve waited of course, it wasnt just the civilians fault.

No, drivers are required by law and expected by responders to pull to the right and stop or just stop. Emergency vehicles are not supposed to pass on the right for that reason. If a fire engine tries to pass on the right and the driver quickly pulls to the right to get out of the way as they are supposed to and there is an accident it most likely will be the driver of the engines fault. If the civilian would have done what they were supposed to do everything would have been fine. Everything was done perfectly by the driver of the fire engine.
@manomano48485 жыл бұрын
Smh is this comment trolling? That is why the public is expected to pull over and stop. You have no idea where the vehicle is trying to go. Emergency vehicles are taught to pass on the left at all times. You really think emergency vehicles are subjected to driving only in the lanes of traffic as designated? Turn in your license
@davidbehrend7054 Жыл бұрын
4:06 It is hard to see in the video, but it looks like the fire apparatus had a red light. From my training as a former volunteer Firefighter and EMT, we were taught that with your lights and siren, you are “asking for the right of way”…….ESPECIALLY when you enter an intersection. Yes, people are supposed to yield to emergency vehicles, but if you have a green light or can’t see them when entering a blind intersection (I.E. - high rise buildings on both sides, blocking your view), you may not be able to stop. It is the responsibility of the emergency vehicle driver to exercise “due care and caution” when entering intersections, and make sure that everyone around sees you and stops, before entering the intersection.

I enjoyed your video. As to your comment that the one car almost got creamed, I have driven everything in my department from from our 44' tower ladder and once in the 1970's I was operating our ambulance going under the Washington DC beltway and had enough room to get by this brand new Chevrolet in the middle of the street but the driver panicked and backed into a brand new Cadillac. So I believe that someone's people do panic and don't think properly.
