I thought I would try this. After finishing my shower, I was installing the trims and found out the valves were plumbed wrong. Since I couldn't get to the plumbing from the back, I had to remove 5-36 x 24 tiles. I just used a propane plumbing torch after removing the grout. 2 tiles broke in small chunks but by and large all 5 tiles came off the wall with a little prying. I had no intention of saving and reusing the tile so it's a win for me. I didn't have to beat the wall with a hammer.

It looks to me like its the face of the concrete shearing off. The tile was covered with adhesive. Tho he did not put enough adhesive when he layed them, at least from what I can see.

It kind of looks like they did but what in the world is the subfloor? It looks like dirt. What I like to do is use a notch towel that's a bit oversized, make and even layer with the niche all going the same direction, which is perpendicular to the longest side of the tile, and make sure to press the tile into it and wiggle it perpendicular to the towel marks.

this can only work if the tile has an air pocket underneath. also in my country most masons (all of them amateurs even though they think they're not) use upto 1 foot deep of tile adhesive (between 4 inches to 1 ft) instead of filling the void with regular concrete before using the tile adhesive at 1in to 1/2in thickness. mainly because they could not care less that tile adhesive is worth 10 times more than cement per kilo, and they absolutely dont care if they rip off the client. which is why i tend to do all tiling work myself (with some help from my brother to help things along).

That's 100% without a doubt an improperly installed tile floor. I've installed more than tile I care to think about. You can't leave any voids, and you have to properly set the tile or they'll let go sooner or later (or sooner!). They don't just pop up from being hit with a steamer. I've also steam cleaned tens of thousands of square feet of the stuff. The steam cleaner wasn't your problem. The tile installer was.

A better way then burning. Remove the grout as shown. Seal up the room and flood to a depth of 100mm for two weeks. Hey presto the water has softened the adhesive enough to lift all the tiles. You might need to replaster the walls and maybe replace the underfloor oh and maybe the ceiling beneath, small price to pay for unbroken tiles that you can relay in about 6months after it’s dried out. No need to thank me.

You need to "butter the back" of the tiles when you set them or at least just rub some wet mud on the back of the tile. setting dry tile on mortar is why the tile didn't bond the first time. You can also add a little link (liquid polymer) to your water and moisten the back. Water let's the mortal make contact with the tile air does the opposite. Same with putting stucco on a block wall, you put link on then you mist it with water before you apply the mud otherwise it can just flake off.

@joshyingling
@joshyingling 2 жыл бұрын
@@ramonching7772 thin set is very sticky and would hold much better than mortar, this example is incredibly rare to have happen without a corner or somewhere else chipping, depends on the type of tile and installation. Buy the most expensive thin set for your tile and install it according to the manufacture instruction. Most of these tile layers in Florida use a spot bonding technique that is fast but not the proper way to do it, you should try to get at least 80-100%thin set coverage under your tile and substrate. If you search KZbin for a video I believe it’s called “laying it straight” it’s a guy laying clear glass tile to show the different techniques of laying tile and how to do it properly

Ok that sounds right too because at one time I had my new clothes drier sat- on the laundry bench instead of on the floor area because it didnt fit under the bench. After about 2 years of intermitent drier heat, all of the wall tile glue and grout behind the drier seemed to degrade so much that an entire section of wall tiles there became so loose and sponge like we were able to just lift them from the wall in tact by being careful they didnt fall. They were able to be refitted with new adhesives and we put the drier in a better place so the constant heat no longer affected the tiled wall areas

I’ve never used a dryer so Im surprised that it gets the wall so hot it degrades the adhesive. Don’t they have any insulation to protect adjacent surfaces? It’s good that you got the tiles of intact, coz unless you have spares it can be a right royal PITA finding replacements.

Saludos.

It's only used on linoleum , never used on removing tile because it dies not work . It's BS. . It works to soften up apoxy grout to remove tile. Heat would have to go through the tile and the thinset to contract the wood . BS! You want the wood to contract use water . If they used a modified thinset like Fexbond 1 or 2 or Versabond or a modified mastic you really think this would work if installation was done properly? Not once did mention tearing out ceramic compared to porcelain tile. Any kind of good bond will break the tile , you have to hope for crappie installations to get lucky like this guy to say this method works . Just to bad these people won't bet money so i can Make it worth it for me in proving them wrong. Then they will stop these stupid videos.
