Over the past few years, I've filmed great white sharks all along the California coast. From as far south as San Diego to as far north as Aptos & everywhere in-between. This is a collection of some of the most memorable encounters I've witnessed so far.

They are less likely to attack than a common dog, or a human on the street, In Australia 🇦🇺 you are more likely to die from a snake bite, spider bite, kangaroo, wombat, magpie, and so many more than a shark, they’re apex predators? Yet attacks are so rare? You see we live on an island and most of the time we go to isolated beaches, it’s dangerous but sometimes it’s more dangerous in your own backyard x you hear about shark attacks because it’s good news, it’s not good for the person, but good for the news outlet! No one wants to hear about a spider bite, or a wombat ripping the entire bottom of your car out, or a kangaroo drowning your kid or killing a family of 5 on holidays… We respect sharks, you should respect them, they generally respect you, 99% of the time anyway, 1% is a risk I’m happy to take ❤ The ocean 🌊 is much healthier and better with them there….

@@ShenStateHuh? I don’t understand your point. If you don’t enjoy the water, sure, stay on land. Not enjoying the ocean because of sharks is silly, though. I’m comfortable in the water and have been lucky enough to snorkel in lots of places and I’d never trade those experiences. Belize has some fun places that let you snorkel with lots of shark species and it’s like being in a bath tub with them. I assume there are places all around the Yucatán peninsula like that. I was in the water in Hawaii somewhere when the boat captain pointed out a larger tiger shark swimming around us, probably looking for turtles or something. To miss out on all the barracuda or spinner dolphin or big skates and rays… or even the Sea Turtles would be really sad because of a fairly irrational fear. But if that stuff isn’t interesting to you, then whatever floats your boat. I’m going fishing in SE Asia after the holidays and look forward to seeing some awesome freshwater fish (catch and release unless my friend is able to prepare what we get).

I grew up surfing in South Africa, being terrified of great whites - given the 21 fatalities at our local beach over the decades. It's only when I started scuba diving and having multiple peaceful encounters with sharks underwater that my opinion of them changed from fear to adoration and respect. @TheMalibuArtist does a fantastic job of not fearmongering with his footage or background music, but instead educating and mesmerizing his audience.
@BlahBlahs1000
@BlahBlahs1000 7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure why it would change your opinion,given the 21 fatalities on your local beach. Sharks are way less dangerous when your on the bottom of a reef, I get that.(former diver) But they are still prehistoric apex sea predators that EAT HUMANS. It only takes a split second for a shark to remind you how unpredictable they can be. And that split second can be your last if you are unlucky. Good thing sharks aren't as mean as barracudas and eels.

I had a terrifying encounter with an aggressive/agitated shark while out alone on my paddle board. He was tangled in fishing line and charged at me repeatedly. He continued to charge and stalk me off my back shoulder when I started to book it back to shore. Fin and tail up out of the water. He was close enough to be repeatedly splashing water up onto me while circling/charging at me. I’m getting ready to head back to the ocean for the winter and your videos are a help to me. I don’t want to be so afraid and am trying to remember it’s not likely to happen again. Thanks for the videos.

Wow animals are shockingly intelligent! So this shark was angry at the species that caused it's entanglement and confronted the very people it felt were responsible. Otherwise sharks don't usually show aggression if unprovoked. If that's the case it's pretty mind-blowing

Thank you for making this video and saying what you said about sharks being more intelligent than we give them credit and also that exposure to humans at a young age might lessen the number of test bites, BRILLIANT! I think we also need ‘educational’ programs to stop editing footage (not just of sharks but all animals) to suit their storyline and just teach people about real animal behaviors like you have so eloquently done here. I have only learned of you and your work today through a news article, already hooked! From a Bird that LOVES sharks, THANK YOU for your voice and your footage.

You are doing great work, you are respectful of the animals and are not creating public relations disasters etc. Dude Beaches and Harbors sold ads to a company promoting a re-release of the Jaws movie that had that image from the book/poster on the back of every tower causing tourists to FREAK OUT it was hilarious but a total disaster. Now that human-shark encounters can be documented by drones, it sheds new light on how really rare shark bites are. I suspect that shark-human encounters are not unlike grizzly-human encounters when you get right down to it. Lots of contact, very few deaths. But let's not forget, when we go into the ocean or the wilds on land, we are entering the food chain, for better or worse.

Thank you for another beautiful video. ❤️❤️❤ I still love your videos and am so grateful to you for your knowledge and the positive awareness that you bring to us about shark activity. They are beautiful creatures and do not deserve the maligned reputation that they have. It broke my heart that the Tiger shark that killed the Italian man in Egypt this year was so cruelly treated before it died. I do not understand why so many humans cannot accept that the oceans are the domain of sharks (and obviously many other creatures) and we should respect them (and the oceans) and not arrogantly give ourselves rights over them.

Great shots Carlos!! It's amazing how many sharks are in the water that go totally undetected by surfers and paddleboaters right next to them. I did notice that to their credit, those who did spot them didn't panic and try to flee; they merely observed them. You mentioned a man who had an encounter and continued to surf everyday. I don't think that's unusual as surfers tend to have a real love of surfing and the ocean; wild horses couldn't drive them away. Muchas gracias y saludos de Vancouver.

Another great video Carlos, amazing. Your videos prove GWSs aren't simply mindless eating machines. I live in the south of Western Australia, it would be so amazing if we had someone like you here documenting via drone footage how GWSs react to surfers here. Surely they're also not as aggressive as we may assume. Many GWSs in your footage are very large - surely large enough to negatively interact with the humans in the footage, but they don't...

What a great way to show how many shark - human proximities exist without a bad ending for the human. I'm not saying people don't get attacked because they do, of course. But looking at all the encounters you have provided footage for of the most feared of sharks very near humans, I would say that it is a very slim chance of happening, more so than was previously thought by everyone. Beautiful footage of those sharks taking people OFF their menu! You have a new follower!
