Lana Lan i agree that there was some selfishness on gaby's part in saving xaio mae yes but in my opinion it still didnt give xaio mae the excuse to sleep with her husband! Working for gaby was paradise comparred to what she had to do back home. Selfish or not she basically saved her and even ended up treating her like family! And as for being a surogate well that didnt just benefit gaby and carlos it also benefited xaio mae big time coz if it wasnt for that she was going to be deported back home! So being a surogate was a win win for both of them. And if xaio mae didnt want to do it she could of just said no and got deported if she wanted to. Honestly, I'd always thought the anger stemmed from Carlos cheating with their surrogate. Like, at that point Gaby didn't think she could have children. She also didn't want them to begin with but changed her mind about it because she knew it was something Carlos wanted. So in her mind, Carlos sleeping with the woman physically having/carrying their child (and not Gaby because she couldn't), was seen as the bigger betrayal.

One thing that did anoy me was the amount of times after this Carlos would bring up John Rolland (yes he did show up a few times) but Gaby never cheted on Carlos again. Hell Carlos even tested Gaby in one Episode but we never hear of Xaio Mei again. Even when Carlos throws Gabys affair in her face she never did the same to Carlos, and Gaby never gets credit for that.

I find this kind if toxicity relevant in many relationships nowadays. Why did the person cheat in the first place? Is it because of the way the partner treated them or because the adulterer is signaling that they are not ready to be exclusive and is jeopardizing the relationship as a cry for help to end the relationship. Instead of forgiving, spend time apart. If they were meant to be, they'll find their way back to each other. If not, it wasn't meant to be, so move on. Loneliness was a major factor but there was also the fact that he treated her like an object, being quite insensitive and rude to her and compensating with luxuries instead of talking and listening to her. And yes, it's pretty fucked up to cheat on your husband with the gardener for a year, even more so with that guy being a 16 year old teenager. Gabby justified the affair to herself with the unhappiness she felt in her life (like an important part of the encounters happened after Carlos said something harsh to her.) She really resented him but stayed for financial stability.
