I find it totally Amazing that the engineering of Caterpillar incorporated is so sophisticated as to allow this type of maintenance to be performed in the Dirt with essentially bent STICKS for tools. That it ever runs is a tribute to the engineering quality that went into it.

The wrong way to do things, the sleeves would have benefited from equal pressure at the same time using a single screw and two bars of metal to force them in more evenly. Rings shouldn't be applied to the pistons dry. Should pay attention to your o rings and never Force ANYTHING. I saw the torque wrench out once, everything on that diesel should have been torqued to spec, as well as loctited to ensure the bolts don't back out, and pipe dope on any bolts that go through water passages if any. Yes they could benefit from better tools, but i think proper training would benefit them more.

I like these videos, BUT what these crews do is refurbish these engines. There is a world of difference between overhauling and rebuilding. This same project would cost BIG bucks at a CAT dealership where the mechanics are instructed to replace any component that doesn’t meet specifications. My guess is a complete rebuild of this engine at a CAT dealer would run more than $20,000 USD.

A good way to ruin the piston ist to install the rings this way.

Considering the environment they work in and the shit they have for tools, they can only do so much. If you don't have a torque wrench, what the hell can you do? Put a pipe on and pull. I'd bet they've done it before and it worked. I ain't saying its right, but that's all they have so they have to make due with that. Put these guys in a decent shop with the right tools they would work circles around any melenials, and a lot of other techs around here. They work pretty damn well as a team. If I put that many guys on one engine in our shop they would trip over each other and at least two of them would be standing and watching the rest, and someone would sure as hell get a finger smashed or some damn thing. My hats off to these guys.

سلام ارادت- کار عالی بود لذت بردم ولی اینکه موقع جمع کردن موتور ۲۰ نفر دور موتور جمع میشوند و هر کدوم قسمتی رو دست میزنند ایا حواس و دقت عمل مکانیک یا اوستا رو بهم نمیزند از اینکه فلان قطعه یا پیچ خوب بسته شده یا در جای خود خوب فیت شده است یا هر ۲۰ نفر اوستا و مکانیک هستند ؟!! با تشکر از کلیپ خوبتون ❤

These mechanics have problems ,they assemble the engine using irregular tightening sequence AND before the engine starts the mains bearings are already strained and such alters the engine oil pressure whats problem...desert mechanics😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤ but kudoos at least they are using the torque wrench for standard strengths ....from centre..diaonally and horizontally,such is inevitablekkkmm
