I mean, if you're going to live in Alton, you need to appreciate that yes, there is a theme park right next door, and yes it is going to make noise. You can't just expect Alton Towers to be silent for a few annoying neighbours🙄

Alton towers has so many restrictions on its rides it's actually amazing they get so many unique and amazing attractions. No coasters can be higher than the tree-line and they're all subject to noise restrictions.

wclifton968 You're completely wrong. Please do some research before making ignorant comments. It's local residents that complain about the noise. As for the parks safety record, Alton Towers has one of the best safety records in Europe. Rides 'fail' all the time as they have numerous sensors and redundancies that halt the attraction to allow for inspections to take place. The incident with The Smiler was the ride operator overriding these safety mechanisms.

How come Alton towers gets so many complaints from the locals about the noise of its rides and in turn have to be modified or removed and yet the massive coasters at Blackpool pleasure beach are practically on top of the houses and they seem to be able to build whatever they want without any complaints ? Seems to me like the locals near Alton towers are a bunch of moaners.

there are no poor people in Alton Village so they can complain as much as they like with their money. they probably said that they'd sue if the rides didn't move or get demolished.

I remember that 4-man Bob... or to be more specific, I remember getting stuck at the top of it when the ride broke down one day. it took maybe half an hour (although it seemed a lot longer to my 10-year-old self at the time) to clear the cars ahead of us on the track, and then we had to rock our car over the top by ourselves, and let gravity take us round the rest of the track to disembark. Kudos to the staff there, they were all very concerned about making sure I was ok, and not traumatised - but all I cared about was "Can we go on the Corkscrew next?" :D

An old coaster that closed down that was among the oldest in NJ was a woodie made by Philadelphia Toboggan Company inc., and was designed by John Miller. It was named Jack Rabbit. It was open from 1919 to 2002 when it hit SBNO status after the brakes failed and a train jumped the track crashing into a nearby building during the hairpin turn where the brakes failed. It was torn down in 2007. The passengers on it survived that im aware of, though several major injuries still happened during the crash. It was the oldest coaster in NJ

Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist about the locals, there is families who have lived their for decades and don’t say “oh just move if you don’t like it”. I used to live in Alton and in many places you could see the rides (there’s now a height restriction. The coasters can only go a certain height from the tree line), and in my bathroom you could hear the themed music and the roar of nemesis. Like it wasn’t too bad but Brits like to complain about anything.

8:00 Scirocco - Turbine and later Psyke underground (3 different names, same coaster) is also the same coaster by schwarzkopf, they solved the noise production by constructing a building over it, and after so many years Gerstlauer updated the ride with new trains and is now using a linear induction motor.

You should check out "Hansapark" in Germany. Even if only for "Nessie", according to different sources one of or the first stationary steel coaster in Germany, a Schwarzkopf-coaster with a single loop and a famously mis-placed brake-run (brakes in the bare metal tunnel, crazy loud). It may be shut down at any point, since it's really getting old and there are rumors that it only barely passes safety-checks.

I only rode Corkscrew, Beastie and Black Hole on my numerous visits to Alton Towers. The earliest time I remember going was in 1997 and I was only 6 so was too small for the larger coasters sadly. One thing that really annoys me about theme parks in the UK are noise complaints from locals. Dude, if you don't like noise then don't live near a theme park! So many coasters in England have either been removed or relocated due to noise complaints from locals.

I used to work at Alton towers, I'm worried that nemesis may soon join the list of past coasters. It's still popular but is now nearly 25 years old :(

TJACWatch I think they’ll keep maintaining it because even though it’s old it’s still one of the main attractions at the park

Fortunate enough to have ridden all of these coasters! I alway thought that “the Beast” was just the “Black hole” without the large tent over it.

Yes the Black Hole is now in a park called Furuvik. Which is mostly a zoo. But has a few rides. Mostly kids rides. But they have the Black Hole. Without a tent/building. Also a new name. It's now called Rocket.

Alton towers is amazing ! I mean I live like 10 mins walk away !! I recommend if you like rollercoasters is you live close definitely get a season pass it’s pretty cheap for the whole year and you don’t have to pay for parking on top every time !

I got so hyped when I saw Alton Mouse, I thought to myself "that looks like the Wild Mouse's layout..." and then when the reveal came I shouted in joy! I rode that thing and adored it. Shame the rest of the park isn't worth it, and Idlewild has a VERY BAD HABIT of closing their coasters for way too long over incidents. Seriously Mouse was put into SBNO for three or four years due to some idiot with sickness getting on it... and now Rollo Coaster, an ACE Coaster Classic, has been closed since 2016 since a three year old fell out. I can tell you now Rollo holds on to you tightly so that was probably the kid being dumb... if it doesn't reopen for 2018 I'll be furious.

I used to love the Thunder Looper and New Beast coasters. Really wish I could still ride them again without having to fly off to another country.

Corkscrew was made of the bones of its victims, pretty sure I actually got whiplash when riding it as a kid.

I wish Loudon castle was still open because at the closest Tesco, you can see a glob like the one at Universal in Florida

Please don't think I'm being negative, but the Beast was not advertised as the UKs longest coaster, instaed it was labelled as the Uks *fastest* coaster. I have an on-ride photo of myself and the cardboard sleeve/envelope thing stating it's the UKs fastest.

Lol did the villagers expect a theme park to be dead silent? Like why move by an amusement park? Especially when you hate the noise?
