I think that's what Universal does best when it comes to it's attractions: it does a great job of immersing you in the ride before you even get on. I didn't experience the show until it was in the last few years because my family wasn't interested in sitting for a show when there were all the rides in the park. I can say that was a mistake, I loved the show! It was such an awesome mix of live action and 3D, with some pretty cool effects. Also was awesome seeing the original actors back for the film, didn't see that happen at all back in the day for rides. Thanks for watching Lindsay, we appreciate your support!

When doing research for the video I was amazed on how hands on James Cameron was with the show. I think he's dedication to the story and the immersion is the reason why the show was so good. Indeed. I remember being there 20 years ago waiting in the line and being greatly impressed by how even the waiting line was so well designed to bring you in to the world of the attraction. For example: the TVs around the line were all running advertisements for different imagined cyberdyne 'products'. Examples include the one embedded in this video as well as the 'handysam' product, the handheld surface to air missile! The signs were made to look like you were inside cyberdyne and hinted darkly that the complaints department was in sub-basement 6 past the door labeled 'organ donations'.

For James Cameron to step in as director for this T2 3D attraction, that's actually a good thing. Universal developers and executives won't know squat without the original director overseeing it first. The same can be said when Universal thought they could handle attractions of Transformers without consulting Michael Bay or Fast & Furious without Justin Lin and producer Neil H. Moritz.

As for Kimberly Duncan... she is not always killed. It happens very rarely and I only seen it happened once where she survives. If the control panel on the stage is not working as it suppose to take the Kimberly actresses under the stage for her to exit the show, the alternate ending for Kimberly is that she just runs out of the auditorium after seeing how insane the situation has become.

I loved this attraction. In hindsight, Terminator is still an active franchise, and with an upcoming instalment with the original cast and characters, it would've been nice if Universal could have updated it to fit more seamlessly into the current Terminator universe-while still keeping a lot of the core elements. Like many former marquee attractions at USF, it kind of got forgotten in recent years and really would've benefited from an extensive refurbishment to keep the technology updated. Still, I'm thankful for the experiences I had with T2:3D - a really memorable, iconic piece of theme park history. Another great video, too!
@ThemeParkHistory6 жыл бұрын
I'm right there with you on the franchise, with Cameron being involved I think he will right the ship and bring it back to it's glory days. The rumors were if Genisys was successful and a trilogy was greenlit, Universal was going to update the story to coincide with those movies. Would have been as successful as T2:3D? My gut says no but at least it would have been Universal trying to keep it's classic attractions at the parks. Thanks for watching, appreciate it!

The big problem with Universal right now is that they really have released far too many terrible movies in the past 10 years. So all the movie rides are based on uninteresting and most likely poorly thought out themes. They have only like 2 decent universes to work with.
@ThemeParkHistory6 жыл бұрын
That's probably a blessing in disguise to be honest. If Van Helsing was successful at the box office we would have had an attraction based on that film instead of Harry Potter. But you're right, things like the Dark Universe they tried to set up with new Mummy movie flopped so bad they've already thought about dropping it all together.
@toplaycool214 жыл бұрын
Also, movies like Back to the Future, Jaws, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, King Kong and Terminator (The first two films) still have relevance to this day. Even Transformers is considered dated by comparison because the Michael Bay films were nothing ground breaking. Sure, Harry Potter is good but the newest attractions do not hold up to Universal's past. Fast and Furious, while a popular franchise, the ride is mediocre. Who knows if Men in Black, E.T. The Mummy and Shrek will be leaving Universal because those franchises are considered 'old.' Now that Disney owns Simpsons, they could also leave Universal. I heard they might build a Jason Bourne ride, but even that franchise has died out so too little too late. Universal Pictures needs to come up with a game plan on creating new franchises that can bring audience interests.

It's a shame really because in my opinion it's one of the best live action shows I've ever seen at a theme park. It probably helps that it was The Terminator, but the blend of live action and 3D wasn't done like that before and seeing all the actors from the movie back for the attraction was unheard of. Attractions need more directors like James Cameron to be involved with their work, you could see he really didn't want the show just to be some cheap cash in.

I actually went on the ride back in late 2016 with my dad during a vacation. It was surprisingly still well-run considering it was only a year away from closing, and still had a fair number of people in the audience for a weekday afternoon. It was a cool concept, but as a person who didn't ever watch the Terminator movies I can really only judge it from a technical standpoint. I feel like, while the blend of live-action actors and 3d digital viewing was cool (even though Arnie looked nothing like actual Arnie), half of the ride being staring at a giant 3d pre-taped screen kind of ruined it a bit for me. Still a blast and was a great alternative considering a majority of the other rides are the newer 4d experience ones, was really cool going on it and seeing just how much Universal as a park and its technology had evolved over the years.

We can only hope that James Cameron brings the franchise back to it's glory days with the next movie, which might help bring it back to the parks if it's a big hit.

This definitely was a awesome show, every time I went to Universal Studios Florida I would always catch this. I will never forget last time I saw it was a few months before it closed, I walked in the queue & literally nobody was there not even cast members, after about 10 minutes or 15 minutes some people started to appear & cast members later appeared, also in the show the actor playing Schwarzenegger didn't come in the motorcycle he just ran in with the motorcycle sound. I remember i was going in September (about 1 month before closing) but Hurricane Irma came the week I have planned to go, I went back in October for HHN but it was the week after it closed. Great video man, I gotta request for another good show "The Wild Wild Wild West Stunt Show".

One of my favorite shows as a kid at universal, and I was sad to see it go without getting the chance to see it one last time. Growing up missing it, I loved it so much I tried to recreate it as a rollercoaster in Minecraft, haha.

A great documentary on the attraction. I paid for me and my parents admission just to see the this attraction only and leave as we had other places to go. So they wouldn't have to stand, I asked guest services to let us skip the pre-show. They put us in the VIP room where the show host actress came to talk. Then we were taken to the dark auditorium and sat there for five minutes until the doors opened for the quests. It was a memorable experience for us.

Honestly, towards the end of its run, the 3-D was impossible to watch and was so out of focus, it ruined the experience, but the live show aspect with actors and visual effects was always fun to experience. Great vid once again, and I’m glad you uploaded twice in a month. 👍🏻

Having only go on it once back in 2015, the 3D wasn't as bad as I though it was going to be. There were rumors of the projections getting a upgrade (like Spider Man did) but I guess Universal already knew the attraction was on borrowed time. Thanks for watching, I'm hoping to get at least 2 videos out every month or something close to that.

Saw it in 2007 and then again in 2014 and thought the movie and 3D were fine. The actors were hit and miss though, First time it was great. The second time seemed like we saw it on trainee day

I've only experienced this attraction once. LOVED IT! The only gripe I had was the name. It would have made more sense to simply call it "Terminator: Battle Across Time". Keeping the T2 name automatically dated it for a short run.

Ah This takes me back I Loved this Ride so much so I think this is My THE Favourite Theme Park Ride and to some Extent Theme Park Attraction of all time.

A very good choice! One of the best shows every built for a theme park and also one of the most technologically advanced as well!
@windsonma82096 жыл бұрын
It sure feels like it at the time and I guess even know I don't know I have been to a theme park for a long time, it doesn't feel like a lot of theme parks have this elaborate of a story to not only tie in to the ride but to also tie in and expand the Franchise that is based upon. And Think You. By The Way
@ThemeParkHistory6 жыл бұрын
I think for this attraction the story was great was because of James Cameron. He wanted to make sure that Universal wasn't going to do just some cheap tie-in to the franchise, he wanted something that fans of the movies would really enjoy. It's a shame more creators don't step in and help Universal with creating the attractions based on the movies they worked on like they did in the 90's.

I remember going to this attraction in Orlando in the 90s when I was little and loving it. It's a shame it's gone from the American parks. I'm glad that Osaka still has it! I just went there last month, and it's still a very popular ride. I'm not sure how the visuals held up in the states, but while the queue line videos are dated the actual 3D effects in the show are sharp and crisp. When I went to USJ in 2015, they still had the Back to the Future ride, and THAT ride's visuals aged really badly. Shame. Hopefully the Terminator ride stays for several more years to come. Also, I have to say that the Japanese pre-show hosts are the best of all the parks. High-energy, engaging, and more than a touch sinister, they're hilarious to watch even if I can't quite keep up with Japanese.

Thank you Chris, we appreciate the kind words. I always felt that if a park had to replace a classic whatever replaces should be on par with the original. Unfortunately in Universal's case most of their replacements have not.
