YESSS my daughter and I rode TT2 in the back row - she wanted to put her arms up … normally, that’s us every single ride! But I asked her, please just hold on (she’s only 10) 😂 we were FLOATING over the top and I don’t think our butts hit the seats until we were traveling horizontally again!
@SpiderWaffle9 сағат бұрын
The track is the most salient factor. They brought in upgraded wheel boogies with sensors, did their tests, then took the trains off right away and then 3D scanned the whole track and then everything changed after that. Haven't seen any work on TT2 since.
@greg_216Сағат бұрын
I agree. I think they're in a tough spot. Do they retrack the coaster ($$$$) so the trains will work? Or do they modify the trains ($$?) so they can handle the existing track? My guess is they started off with the latter and then discovered the required reinforcement would make the trains too heavy to clear the top hat in three launches. The solution might end up being some combination of retracking the worst sections, reinforcing the trains, and making the launch more powerful. It's certainly not a beginner-level engineering problem.
@SpiderWaffleСағат бұрын
@greg_216 maybe improved wheel boogies and retracking to the rough parts, like wherever it goes over 70mph.

I think the trains higher center of gravity could be causing the issues especially when it’s going through the twists on the top hat. I feel they should at least try and re-profile the twists to better match the heartline of the new trains.
@maddymoester9 сағат бұрын
Idk that twist is fun af with the current set up.
@jonny-b49547 сағат бұрын
Yeah, that's my best guess. It's causing too much strain, too much shuffling and roughness, is messing with predicted G-forces on riders and structure etc.
@highoctaneadventure2 сағат бұрын
I think there may be new trains that will have a seating position closer to the original Intamin trains. Once that centre of gravity is lowered to be what it was originally designed to be for the ride, they’ll be able adjust the speed over the top hat and hopefully avoid needing to reprofile any track.
@barichm02 сағат бұрын
The honest answer is that they already have ruined the ride. The launch is what was special and unique about Top Thrill Dragster. And the theming, which went with the launch. The video that Coaster Studios posted about the closing of Kingda Ka gives a lot of insight into this. They mentioned that Cedar Fair likely is doing this because of liability. They were grossly negligent during the pandemic. Their insurance company may have told them that they cannot operate such a ride.

Just a rumor I've heard so that's all it is but I've heard the entire ride is off-center and that is what is causing the issues with the trains. I remember for a few days or weeks they had these Green Lasers on the track. Who knows though. I don't see it operating next season at all . I think that's why we got Sirens curse.

Also about it your new trains comment, I suspect they will be near visually identical trains with the same seats and body panels. If they only need to make new chassis they would take that route
@techpappee7 сағат бұрын
Part of the problem with the trains was their heartline. It's raised on the Zamperla trains compared to where it was on Intamins. That can and did cause issues from my understanding. I won't be surprised if we see both modifications to the track and trains. Personally, I don't think CP will just scrap a $23+ million investment either.

You hate that CF management is trying to turn around the dumpster fire that is SF legacy parks. SF parks have been financially under performing for a decades, they are run down with poor food, aesthetics, infrastructure, etc,,,,. CF is trying to make the bigger SF legacy parks more like the big CF legacy parks. CF with its Seasons of Fun plan has been running circles around SF legacy parks. CF is putting in gigas, new themed areas, nice restaurants and getting the ROIC on that leading to record financials in 2022. 2023 and up to the merger Q2 2024. Meanwhile Sf has regressed to 2017/2018 levels, lost 1/2 their pass base, attendance was down 7M after Selim's "plans", etc... The difference in the parks is clear in the first joint financials in Q3...CF legacy parks 792M revenue, 352 Ebidta, 108M net income, 11.8M attendance, SF parks 558M revenue, 206M Ebidta, 3 M net income(not a typo just 3M) and 9.2M attendance. SF got smoked by Cf and SF has 16 dry parks compared to CF's 11.

Wasn't it 8 days if you include the 2 days of charity events before passholder previews? I think they'll get it figured out and have a lot of uptime - remember, Steel Vengeance had a lot of growing pains the first few seasons, but worked through them all. I'm actually still holding out a (tiny) bit of hope that Six Flags is playing word games, and Kingda Ka actually gets the Intamin extended layout that they had in mind first for Dragster. Also, I think they need to figure out a way to get double sided lockers worked in somehow, or some other way to solve the issue of cell phones besides stopping at a locker before you even get in line. I'm also pretty concerned about losing the speed over the top hat, and really hoping they don't neuter it in the quest for reliability...that was by far the best part of the ride, not even close, and it would be losing a ton if they can't keep that intensity.

I really hope they get TT2 operating regularly. I didn't ride it during its one week of operation so I'd love to ride it. But also, I can't help but wonder if this whole fiasco (starting with the unreliability of TTD, the accident, and the expensive failure of the reimagination of the ride as TT2) will just leave a bad taste in people's mouths, residual Peele who bought season passes or planned vacations from far away. It's not like the park is going to close. But if this hurts it's reputation I worry that such a thing could hurt the park's performance and ultimately it's investment level. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure the chain will do what it can to help the park bounce back. But if TT2 fails and then they have any other major problems that could translate into real long term consequences if ticket sales lag.

From what i heard is loaded trains need less speed to make it over the top hat, especially when dragster & ka were only going 115mph range speed at max. So maybe they can boost up the 1st launch speed since the 3rd launch wont need as much boost? Or at the top of the 2nd launch put the breaks on and have a quick pause for that hanging effect.

The current trains sit too high and raises the center of gravity with a loaded train. The top hat and twist therefore put greater stress and less stability on the track. If the go with new trains they will be lower to the track to the point that visibility on all seats beyond the first car will be very obstructed. In the end the track will most likely need to be replaced to profile with the new trains. I hope they are willing to spend the money to get it right!
