I have heard pipes played in The US (be kind, I am from The US), never liked them. But, damn when heard them played correctly, I am loving them! I have Googled, and KZbind everything posted by The Black Watch. It is stirring, and heartwarming, yet melancholy. Thank you for sharing! Love from The US!

My late father, William Nicol was a Sergeant in the 1st Battalion, The Black Watch, (RHR), 51st (Highland) Division, his brother, James Nicol was a Sergeant in the 5th Battalion, The Black Watch. He was wounded and captured at CÄEN after D-Day. He finished his war on the "March Of Death" when the POWs were forced to walk back to Germany before the victorious Russian Armies.

For overseas viewers, the footage at 0:22 is misleading, that's Stirling Castle, regimental home of The Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, and not in traditional BW country - likewise the Wallace Monument shown immediately beforehand, only a few miles away. Neither is Fort George at 1:43 in Watch territory.

I feel that I need to share a bit of news about the beautiful piece of music titled Heilan' or Highland Laddie. I have always loved this Scottish piece of music. However, I have heard a version that I think has been corrupted by a few Canadian Highland regiments. When I heard it being played by a Canadian pipe band, it almost made me ill or turn my stomach. It's as if the music was being played upside down. One of the regiments that played it in a corrupt way was Ottawa, Canada's Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. I felt that I had to share this concern. 😟

The black watch regiment in Scotland has a sister regiment in Canada know as the Canadian black watch, but this is the regiment from Scotland. And Canada does have for the most part very similar traditions to Scotland and the rest of the U.K. since it was once part of the British Empire, for all those who seem to have a bad misunderstanding of everything, here you go.^
