Giving A Thousand Suns a good rating fills my fanboy heart with joy. I will die on that hill saying this very firmly, deeply, missunderstood album back then is their best. And time was incredibly nice to it, it was extremely avant-garde in a way. We never saw conceptual shit like this back then, nowadays its more common place.
@treystewart73119 күн бұрын
I don't think A Thousand Suns is terrible, but I think it has too many interludes that waste space on the album. Plus, in my opinion, "The Messenger" is just a bad song with vocals that clash with the instrumentation and result in a poor closing track.

My ratings: Hybrid Theory: 5/5 Meteora: 4.5/5 Minutes to Midnight: 3.5/5 A Thousand Suns: 3.5/5 Living Things: 3/5 The Hunting Party: 4/5 One More Light: 2/5 From Zero (so far): 4/5 And as a bonus, let's throw in Reanimation and Collision Course. I give the former a 3.5/5 and the latter a 3/5. My ratings are within the context of Linkin Park, rather than music altogether. Otherwise, some of these would be a little lower. And call it recency bias, but to me, From Zero, so far, is the best thing they've done since Meteora. But let's see how the rest of the album goes before that's final.

Linkin Park was a big band not only for me, but for my twin brother as well who was getting into them around the time when What I’ve Done was on the Transformers ending credits. My brother was very lucky to see Chester perform with Linkin Park on that A Thousand Suns tour back in 2012, because looking back, I wish I would’ve went as well. I remember hearing Bleed It Out for the first time as a 12 year old and kind of being scared of it at first, because I had never heard such aggressive vocals before (but I would later get into screaming vocals thanks to that one part on AFI’s song Miss Murder… but that’s a story for another time). I remember really getting into them around the time A Thousand Suns came out. That album is still my third favorite, LINKIN PARK album behind Hybrid Theory and Meteora. It’s such an inventive and forward thinking record with a very well put together atmosphere and some great songs on it. Very happy to hear you give it the respect it deserves. Such a fantastic record. I know some people find Mike Shinoda’s rapping kind of corny, but I think it’s got a charm to it. Plus, Linkin Park were one of the first bands that showed me that rap and rock/metal could work together and they would become a big influence on bands like Issues as well, especially with the whole DJ scratching thing that Joe Hahn does. An eternal R.I.P. to Chester Bennington. That death still makes me sad 6 to 7 years later.😭😖💔

Honestly, I didn't realize they released so many albums. I thought they only had like 3 lol. I loved Hybrid Theory when it came out and I listened to the shit out of it! It was one of the albums that I had pretty much on a loop while I spent 5-6 months in Northern Ireland. But Meteora just didn't do anything for me and I started moving on to things like Opeth and Nightwish. So yeah, I didn't realize they made so many records. Maybe if I get a wild hair up my ass I'll listen to some of them.

Also here’s one of my favorite memories I have with Linkin Park. I don’t remember how old I was but I know I was around 10 years old when this happened. I was screaming along to Given Up by Linkin Park and you know how on the radio, they censor the cussing. Well they beeped it, but I didn’t and my mom came out and said “what did you say” and it took me a minute to realize that I said fuck and I apologized as soon as I realized what I said. She forgave me because she knew it was an accident lol. I love that memory

Uncle Melty giving love to both A Thousand Suns AND The Hunting Party? Even saying that The Hunting Party is his favorite? I did not say that coming. A Thousand Suns was actually my first Linkin Park album and I got into it because I, at the time and still now, am a huge fan of really good industrial rock & electronic rock hybrids. I'm a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails & Celldweller for example (interestingly enough Celldweller and Linkin Park actually share a bit of fanbase) and I loved the soundscapes and the general vibes that Linkin Park were able to create with A Thousand Suns. It's still my favorite album of theirs and it's really interesting to see that album's reputation turn around over the years. I've loved it from day 1, but most fans absolutely despised it... and now many of those same fans are turning around and saying it's their best album. It's the also the album that seems to be the favorite of those people who say they're not Linkin Park fans which is interesting. The Hunting Party however has not been given that big of a reappraisal, despite being their most aggressive album since their early days. This album seems to have came and went for many people and the songs from the album don't get played live very much, but it's still a really fun album. A Line In The Sand is easily a top 5 Linkin Park song for me. Interestingly enough, the newest album seems to be kinda like a combination of this album and Minutes to Midnight so some member of the band really likes it. We'll see how that pans out.

Linkin Park is such an incredibly important band for me. I am an only child who didn’t really have any friends or parents who I gravitated towards in terms of music so I had to figure it out on my own. I started my long musical journey with hip hop and to a middle schooler hooked on Kanye, J Cole and Lil Wayne, Linkin Park was really what I needed to break the door open for rock and later metal music. I understand how you feel with the hip hop elements and I admit, the lyrics aren’t particularly great at times. However, I’ve listened to both Mike and Chester’s different solo/side projects and while they are/were both very talented artists, one really wouldn’t be as great without the other and I feel like each album (except for One More Light) as a whole is made better by it. Plus I know Hands Held High’s lyrics are kinda corny but I first heard it as a middle schooler and it felt so deep to me then so I still love it lmao. Great reviews as always and of course RIP Chester. Looking forward to hearing you thoughts on the upcoming project!

I just pulled Hybrid Theory up and I don't think I have willingly played any LInkin Park song in the past 20 years until now. I believe I liked Crawling when I was in High School but never got into them as much as friends, yet I know every song on here. It might as well be 13 singles. The only track I really can't stand is the second track. "Now I'm bout to.... break." That one. I just can't do it but the others weren't that bad and it was fun to go back and hear them. Crawling is still my fav on there. The album after is when that bad had become a household name in my eyes. I do think it was gonna happen for them anyways but having a good follow up is what really seals the deal and makes this band a global phenomenon.

Growing up I had Hybrid Theory and Meteora on one burner CD just labeled Linkin Park (those were the only albums they had at the time) and they weren’t in like Tracklist order so I literally don’t know what songs are on which album lol to me I love both albums equal. Minute to midnight was really good to me too but then I just totally fell off. And tbh From Zero is their best album since HB/Meteora by far imo

I respect your opinions! Well formed and articulated. Man I really can't stand One More Light. Puts a stain on their whole legacy in my opinion. Best forgotten about. I think From Zero is a little better but still doesn't compare to any of their earlier stuff. I respect what you say about Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I guess we all have our favourite albums and we're a bit blinded by nostalgia. But those albums came out in my personal favourite time in history, 00s, I was young and so happy and care free. The music really resonated with me at the time. It was edgy yes, and I listened to this through high school and it even formed a bit of my personality at the time. All these things make me think they're both my favourite albums ever. I have Meteora and Hybrid Theory together on a playlist and just listen to that most of the time, you're right, they're very similar. I think Meteora is slightly better then HT tbh.

It's a weird choice, but there are some unirronically amazing songs there like Lost in the echo, In my remains, Burn it down and some very nice softer songs I absolutely love like Roads untravelled and Powerless. Ofcorse there are some flaws like Lies greed misery or whatever it's called, very mid song, I always skip it. My ratings: Hybrid Theory: 3.5/5. Damn good album, influential, classic for sure, but it hasn’t aged well and “Crawling” is my least favorite LP song Meteora: 4/5. A more refined version of Hybrid Theory with better songwriting and better hooks Minutes To Midnight: 3.5/5. A solid record with some interesting moments A Thousand Suns: 4.5/5. Their best album. Masterpiece. Way to shout this one out Living Things: 3/5. Great first half, middling second half The Hunting Party: 4/5. Heavier, dirtier, and rougher than any of their other records. Underrated AF One More Light: 1.5/5. The title track is amazing, and the lyrics throughout the album are excellent, but the music does NOT fit. At all. Every song is hamstrung by either one stupid decision (those processed chipmunk vocals) or bad production. They could’ve made a good pop album, but the fact that this came after The Hunting Party, I think, made this album hit even worse. I’ve only listened to this album twice, ever, and I don’t see myself pulling it out again. Sorry.

Love the respect for the Hunting Party here, that album gets way too slept on. Rebellion is up there with Numb and In the End for me

We definitely need to see a Thrashin' Jackson album review soon hahahaha...That said, While I am not a Linkin Park fan, I will acknowledge that had it been just Chester at vocals, I think I would probably felt different about the band. But Mike Shinoda can't sing and is a terrible rapper. And I generally am no fan of hip-hop/rap whatsoever. It's just my opinion of Linkin Park. What is fact, you always do a great job with these reviews. Keep it up.

Hey, we got the same two favorites! ATS and THP are absolute masterpieces, although I think A Thousand suns is slightly better, but that’s just because of the way it presents its concept, THP is their best album in terms of general song quality

Ive always liked half of linkin park. I dont really enjoy rap at all, when i do it has to be clever or witty which is never the case with linkin park. Chester was phenomenal but enough to ever keep me engaged through the shitty rap segments

Meteora my personal favorite Linkin Park. And I still love them......until Chester passed. It's basically the Static X/DEATH/Pantera; the main artists of the band where the band themselves, or in this case, what defines/represents the band itself. Right now it's just a bunch of cash grabbing, money squeezing cows milking the money out of fans. The new "lineups" are just nothing, just a blank space trying so hard to fill up the "unfinished" story of the original band(s)/artist(s)

Not really surprise with your comments (pretty similar to me), yeah one more light was a big disappointment. For their new album from zero....i have a feeling that they will be a lot of hate (like if they didn't have enough already). But honestly all the crap about emily is waaaay over the top IMO....really good video like always.....from a fellow canadian (Québec)

"From Zero" is going to get so much shit for so many reasons. Some valid, some not. Like there's the Scientology shit with Emily, reports that Mike Shinoda was harassing Chester behind the scenes, the simple fact that Linkin Park continuing at all just seems to rub people the wrong way too. I remember there being some anger over the band having a 'female singer' when the reunion was announced.

I actually think One More Light is great and The Hunting Party is by far my least favorite LP album

Linkin Park was great, then they sold out hard and threw away the formula that made them unique and great.

Meh! Never been a fan of Linkin Park. Always seemed like a bunch of teen angst music and I was well out of my teens when started.
