I actually prefer living in the UK even though I am from Portugal. I don't have a job like yours, just a normal 9 to 5 but with amazing flexibility and work/life balance and much better pay than what I'd ever get in Portugal. All my friends back home can't afford to buy a house (I can't afford one here in the UK either 😂), but the majority also have terrible jobs that don't offer as much work/life balance or proper pay to even rent a place. I'm talking about renting a place in the big cities like Lisbon or Porto, but unfortunately that's where we need to live in order to find work. A place like Algarve, or an island like Madeira, is much cheaper to rent or buy house, but then you can't find a proper job around those areas. Not to mention the country is unable to help any of the young people with proper initiatives. Basically it feels like everywhere you go there will be issues in one way or another. For your situation and lifestyle, I can see how a place like Algarve would be beneficial, but for me with an office work that would provide all the perks I currently get in my job in the UK, living in Portugal is a pipe dream. Maybe when I retire I'll be able to finally return.

This is just my opinion but, the majority of people in the U.K. regardless of age, can hardly afford the cost of living and the way in which it has dramatically increased in the last few years. Young people cannot afford rent, let alone houses. Those that sacrifice things to own a house cannot afford to do anything other than pay their bills. The rate of earnings has not increased anywhere in line with inflation, most households are losing 10% of income per year for the last few years - and this includes doctors, nurses, teachers while execs at energy and water companies take bonuses . Our basic utilities like water and electricity and the council tax that is referred to in the video have gone up by £100's per year in the last few years, this is due to systemic government failings. Our precious resources such as the NHS & schools are suffering. The problem is UK wide and near on every household besides the 1% is struggling regardless of circumstance. Oh and it rains all the bloody time 😂 sorry that was so long, didn't realise how hard it would be to explain after I started. I think this is what Stef is referring to

I’m 26 and me and my boyfriend can’t afford to buy a house when we both earn over 40k each.. we live in the south coast and are trapped in the system, we want children and our own family but we’re too scared to bring children into this country with how it is heading. It’s so depressing. We are really considering moving elsewhere to escape. It’s so sad…

We are currently looking to move overseas due to all of the reasons you have outlined. Portugal also being one of our options. We have two young boys, aged 2 & 4. Although we are very proud to be British and we love our country, it’s heartbreaking watching it being destroyed in front of our very eyes. Punished if you are even the slightest bit successful, yet unpunished for committing serious crimes.

Many people in Canada especially in the major cities & surrounding areas are truly struggling financially. The number of people going to food banks has skyrocketed. Most can’t afford the sky high rent prices or mortgage so they end up moving back in with their parents or go to somewhere super far. It’s been quite sad to see so many tents everywhere as so many have become homeless (we have a huge shortage of shelters). I don’t know what the solution would be.

You have to live here, to feel it. Things like small businesses and farmers, being hit with new taxes out the blue. Ten million pensioners having their winter fuel payment removed, causing many to die this winter. People being thrown in prison, for posting unpleasant things on social. Two-tier justice and policing. The UK is a basket case and the Michalaks are doing the right thing, by escaping it all.

There’s a long list so I’ll give you the highlights. A prohibitive tax system that takes most of our hard earned money. A dictator for a prime minister, who has let hardened criminals and paedophiles out of prison to make way for people who show their frustration at the state of things through protest and tweets. Mass immigration from countries that do not have the same values leading to an increase in knife crime, rapes and sexual assaults and the loss of our culture. Pot hole filled roads and a general lack of cleanliness and maintenance. The UK is obscenely expensive, dirty and unsafe.

Don't ever move to Italy, you would hate the burocracy and the inefficiencies in the system and in everyday life. Yes everything is cheaper here than in the UK and the weather is beautiful but life is overall so complicated and terribly disorganized. I hope Portugal is better from this point of view.

Would the buyer accept a reduction on the sale price equal to the one pound per month charge? It seems such a trivial amount to stop a sale. Perhaps they've had cold feet and are using it as an excuse to get out of the deal? How frustrating!

I so desperately want to get out of England with my family but without an EU passport (we have no EU family within the restrictions), it’s really expensive and uncertain. We didn’t vote to leave the EU either so it’s such a mess. If we don’t make it then our eyes are on Scotland, my partner is Scottish and I just love the integrity of that country comparatively.

Absolutely right about the need to look at ourselves, our sense of identity and ideological beliefs. This year I’ve found my self taking a step back from mainstream and social media (and all the common narratives and ideas floating about). I’ve taken up meditation and found myself reading the types of books I wouldn’t have previously been that bothered about like Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth. It all feels a bit weird.

YEAH RUFUS!!! Stef, We are also seeing mass exodus of our cities for pretty much the same reasons. My husband and I live in quite a large home but are unable to purchase a downsized home because they are between 300 - 400 thousand dollars! This is about the price we will sell our 2,300 sq ft home; but where our 3% mortgage rate is we can't afford the 7% that is being offered now. Be grateful you are young enough to have choices. You don't when you are at retirement age even if you have prepared your whole life for it. Hang in there!

Netanyahu is 100% to blame. He's an entirely self-serving top tier Illuminati and has made flattening the entire area his mission. FACT! I pray that Trump will refrain from being influenced by his Jewish son in-law, and finally see right through that monster akin to Hitler. US funding for Israel HAS TO STOP. Period. Everything I know about him & that mess that he's intentionally created, I learned through Matthew's Messages and MatthewBooks (one word).
