Another wonderful lineup 🎉. Sly and the Family Stone are the whole package as far as talent goes. Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons with their smooth harmonies and Melissa Manchester will bring it. I don't recognize the rest of the names, but I bet when I hear them I will recognize the music, probably those middle of the charts songs that Oldies channels don't play i love

Before media became scattered into millions of little ‘curated’ pieces, there were shows that put a real variety of styles together: Sly Stone, Melissa Manchester, Franki Vallee, Atlee Yeager. Something for everybody. It’s good to see names that faded alongside with ones that we still know. The musical past isn’t made up of just the hits we hear brought back in movie scores.

As successful as Frankie V. and the four seasons were at the time of this performance there was much much more success and fame to come with December 1963,Oh what a night peaking at #1 on billboard hot 100 in 1975, Grease (is the word) #1 billboard hot 100 and more! including a broadway musical and movie (Jersey Boys) , a recurring role in The Sopranos and on and on and on. There was just no stopping a gutsy guy with a big heart , a good mind and an incredible voice.

@battlecat47917 ай бұрын
Interesting....October 26 1973 was my 18th birthday. I signed for my own surgery (to repair a left leg that was shattered in a motorcycle accident two weeks earlier) early that morning. I was in traction in the hospital bed when this aired (this show actually aired at 12:00am on Saturday, October 27th). I was in no condition at the time to watch it, so I have never seen this show before. Such memories... Anyway, I am a true Sly and the Family Stone fan (to me he is one of the greatest pop/funk/soul/r&b geniuses) and live music on the Television was relatively rare back in those days, so The Midnight Special was quite a big deal. Thanks for uploading this so I can get a chance to actually see it...by the way, I think I have a bit of a crush on Sly's little sister Vaetta to the left at 5:37, the way she breaks into that funky little dance during the vamp...

Another great one to come. I had not thought of Freddy Weller in decades. I listened to Paul Revere and the Raiders when I was in elementary school. My aunt supplied me with "16" magazines. I don't remember the exact timing, but sometime around 1967 Phil Volk (Fang) and another two members left the group. Freddy Weller joined then. I remember listening all the time to his solo endeavor, "Games People Play" a couple of years later. This will be a hoot. Of course I'm a fan of the Family and Mark-Almond. Can't wait.
