The first TMNT movie is still one of my fav nostalgic movies from my childhood and was the first movie I ever owned on VHS. It was relatively gritty and had heart. I remember enjoying this sequel as a kid but now not so much and it just feels like a joke. Not knocking anyone who does like it, to each his own.

I used to watch the second and third movie all the time when I was little. Apparently, the first movie was a bit intense and parents complained that it was too violent. That's why these movie seem goofy looking.

Man, this was in the height of Turtle Mania. The movies, the cartoon series, the video games, the cereal, the action figures. Every little boy wanted to go as a Ninja Turtle for Halloween and wanted to find the Technodrome playset under their Christmas tree. Hostess even made "Turtle Pie" pastries with green frosting and sold them with the promotional tagline, "Straight from the sewers to you!" And despite that disgusting phrase, WE ATE THEM.

I know this is a classic & got me into TMNT especially the 2003 cartoon. But the 2007 animated TMNT film is so good but sadly a sequel wasn't made. However in the comics they were adults who liked drinking beer. I did hear Kevin & Peter the original creator of TMNT made a dark version of the series & another called Ronin where Mikey is the only one who survived.

I would love for you guys to go back and watch the first film, and you might as well watch all of the TMNT movies and see how they changed over the years. I've been wanting the first film to get more attention from reactors on KZbin. I'm tired of seeing people reacting to the MCU and Star Wars for the first time. Watch some superhero movies that aren't just DC and Marvel, and not trying to connect to a bigger universe. There are grown people that think that if they see the Marvel logo, then it is in the MCU, even though they know that the series of films started in 2008, not in the late 90s or early 2000s.

Funny you brought up Batman at the end. There is a comic and now animated movie about Batman Vs. TMNT and it is surprisingly amazing. If you loved both those fandoms, you'll love that one!

Yeah, they softened the Ninja Turtles a bit between the first movie and this one because parents started getting hysterical that kids would be influenced to become violent, so they made the Turtles more jokey and didn't allow them to use their weapons very much. Over in the UK, they even changed their name to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" because they thought the term "Ninja" implied too much violence for children.

My childhood right here. Practical effects just hit so much different than cgi, the costumes may not be the greatest or as polished & I think I just now discovered why I have a lifelong fear of rats, but there's just more soul with practical effects.
