Another heartwarming glimpse into your boat life… I love steam trains and was a regular visitor to quite a few Preservation lines in England over the years, I love the smell of coal smoke! it takes me back to my childhood days of open fires in the council house we lived in. Zeph was so good at the vets 🤩 I work with animals every day in my job as I move a mobile MRI scanner to different veterinary hospitals everyday 😊 This week I’m in Belfast for three days so no better way of passing the time than catching up on your lovely videos Vanessa. The River Avon is so beautiful, with its lush trees, meadows, birds, and insects busily going about their doings. The Bowhead Whale sculpture in Evesham was lovely. What a great mooring spot next to the the Exmoor Steam train, which was fun to tootle along the track. It reminds me of a steam train we had in Houston, TX that kids loved to ride. Zephyr got his vet visit all taken care of and won't have to worry about that for another year. Have a great weekend! Cheers. 🦮🪲🥀🚂 Jenny

Vanessa does it again, peaceful & beautiful video full of nature. I found an Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar this week hammering up the garden, incredible creature like your Cinnabar. I also use a refill shop for everything from shampoo to peppercorns & yesterday was deodorant making day in my kitchen from just 3 ingredients bought there, totally plastic free, vegan & not tested on animals. I gasped two wows whilst reading your comment. First one, was when you said that you have an elephant hawk moth caterpillar in your garden- I am desperate to see one and search all the fireweed and fuchsia that I pass in the hope that one will be there, but nothing so far. I am growing honeysuckle on my roof now as I know they like that too. Then the second 'wow' was that you make your own deodorant- how do you do it? Is it effective? I'd love to try. @@themindfulnarrowboat I have several fuchsias & honeysuckle, I couldn't believe I was seeing it when it came hurtling up the shingle towards me. Yes, the deodorant I've used for years works fine, I'll email you the recipe also the pics I managed to get of the caterpillar on my phone if you like. I used to buy vegan deodorant in a jar for a tenner online then a friend & I started making our own with a recipe we found online & my acupuncturist makes the same stuff.

The huge caterpillar was amazing with bright colours telling birds "eat me at your peril", but he was rapidly fast also. A real nice video. The only thing I would like to point out is that 3 short blasts on the boat horn means, "Going Astern ". Perhaps the signage could read "3 Long Blasts on the horn" to warn the ferry.

An absolutely beautiful episode, with wonderful scenery and I LOVE THE TRAIN! I loved riding trains, it's a shame more Americans don't get to enjoy them. I traveled from New Orleans to Chicago once by train, and it was one of the best trips of my life to date. Thanks for bringing back wonderful memories, and exposing my me to new experiences. Miss that whole area, was based in the Cotswolds in a village called Snowshill but ranged far and wide from there, canoeing at Symonds yat, going to Art collage in Gloucester, supping the scrumpy in Evesham, sailing in a dingy into Stratford using an umbrella, just so many places to go around there.

Beautiful video. That subscription thing for Zephyr's vet care, is that the same as pet insurance? I never got that for my dogs and regretted it. Did she get a nice treat for being a good girl? Your fender garden looks quite pretty. Is the blue flower convolvulus? I think known as blue ensign? You seem to be doing more wild mooring of late. Is that due to lack of proper moorings, or just nice opportunities? Anyway, thanks again for your lovely videos. Greatly appreciated and enjoyed!

I believe it was in 1964 that in a rented cabin cruiser out of Birmingham together with my wife and six year old son (he is now retired and drawing a pension) in an incredibly relaxed way we found our way to the basin at Stratford-upon-Avon. Such a beautiful area Vanessa. I’d love to do a hire around there. Have you seen any hire companies at all? Is there a chance to get off and walk with the dogs during a cruise or only when moored up? Thanks for the vlog, it was wonderful as always. Give Zephyr a hug please ❤

There are a couple of hire boat companies here so you can definitely do the Avon as a holiday. You can only really get off when at the locks to let the dog stretch its legs otherwise it's when you are moored where there are so many wonderful walking opportunities. How do you handle extreme summer heat on your boat with a dog ? Only iv always wondered as I want to buy a boat in a couple of years and have two dogs

Good question! The heat and narrow boats do not mix well! We find a tree to moor under as this will drop the temperature by about 10 degrees Celsius. All windows and front and back door are open but covered. We have thermal blinds which are very good in both hot and cold temperatures. We have rechargeable usb fans running too. All rugs are removed so we have the cold wooden floor for Zephyr to lie on as she won’t lie on a cool mat. We also take her swimming throughout the hot days to cool her off. Lots of boaters with white roofs say that it makes a difference too. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching, take care🌻🦋
