I've just purchased the R model, I've purchased the seat cowl as an extra ,it looks great ,I agree that it was down to preferance as I don't do track days ,I have the silver ice colour and in the sunshine the matalic flake certainly shines ,this is my first Triumph I've always had Suzuki in the past but this Street Triple is an amazing bike👍

I agree, I’d go for the RS - on the strength of the paint scheme, better brakes and bar end mirrors. Lovely looking bikes. IPhone works a treat as well 👍

It seems like the RS is worth the extra money. ( seat cowl, belly pan, LCD display, sport tires, Ohlins shock, better brakes, 10 more horse power, 2 pounds lighter, and allot nicer color. Im just not into the grey color. and the yellow and red are really nice. I test road the RS and really liked it. one of the nicest sounding stock bikes I have ever ridden. and I feel at home sitting on it. unfortunately where I live the price is allot more than most other places. the only negative is that its a naked bike and I was getting hammered by the wind when riding it. as far as how the two compare. I like a tachometer that looks more like a real tach. so I don't like the look of the tach on the RS. and I like the lower seat on the R and the softer suspension. but I think I would still have to buy the RS.

It's not just the callipers that are different. The master cylinders are axial on the R and radial on the RS. The m\c tends to make a big difference, anyone that's fitted an upgraded\aftermarket one will know what I mean. Great comparison, agree on the red colour it looks great out in the wild.

For me, since I do have the obligatory 1.5h highway run before hitting some fun twisty roads, the fact that the cruise control is only available on the RS was also an important factor. That and the yellow paint of course :)

There's no doubt the R has to be one of the best value bikes out there... but tbf the extra money for the Rs is definitely worth it considering all the multiple upgrades... Both Brilliant bikes, probably just comes down to how much you want to spend!.. Picked up my Carnival Red RS yesterday and absolutely loved the first 100miles... what a bike!.. Well done Triumph!!..🙏❤

You need to adjust the suspension on the RS to make it more compliant on the road. Once done it rides just as well as the R if not better. So, in fact the RS is the better bike. You have a greater range of adjustment. It's just that people are not setting it up when they should do.

In theory the R would suit my riding best but the colours would probably sway me to look at other bikes instead. I agree with you and miss the brighter colours triumph used to do. If the offered other colour options, even for a couple of hundred quid extra, would be a good move.

As to the bike comparison, thanks for that. It would be great if you could answer the rear shock difference by taking the bike to a suspension specialist or even having a tinkering with it yourself to see if it could be made similar to the R. That would make for great content as everyone else is saying they’re different but nobody has tried to address the issue.

Great video as always, I bought a Street Triple R today, went for a white one as the grey too dull... Have to agree they should do more colours, however the deal I got was really good so couldn't justify waiting until August for red, or October for yellow RS).... I’ve been learning to ride on a variety of bikes, and spent a day on the R and two on the RS, and what swings it for me is the downshifter on the RS (the R is up shift only I think). Edit: possibly the R I rode was a little older, which might account for the difference.

Interesting that we bikers have a need for style and performance that’s often mitigated by our sense of frugality. But, while frugality is tethered to practical matters, for the majority of us motorcycles are totally optional and have little to do with practical matters. So, for me, after deep reflection much math and complex considerations I’ve concluded . . . I’d take the yellow one.

I have ridden Both Bikes extensively, and I really noticed how planted the RS was at high speed. This was! At higher speeds the 'R' felt loose and a little scrawly on high speed bends on the edge of the Tyre. I blamed the cheaper Tyres, but I believe it to be a combination between Tyres and Shocks. An average commuter wouldn't care or shouldn't care, however a sporty rider will notice this quickly! The iphone footage was really Good mate. you should consider a gimble for your iphone to make it easier for yourself! Thanks Bro

If the colour won you over, how difficult and cost effective might it be to get the R resprayed??? (If you bought one) Triumph seem a bit stingy with their colour offerings, I only realised this with the new 400 S recently unveiled. Retro looks , three colours of which two are shared with the 400 scrambler. Very uninspired.

Is the seating position on the R more upright than the RS? I just recently sold my 18' Street Triple due to severe neck pain when riding. Never liked the "Sitting on Top" position of the previous generation Streets. I did test ride the new R recently and and liked the position better than my old one-felt more like I was sitting into the bike instead of on top, like my first 2013 Street S. I just felt like they cheapened the bike up on the switch gear side with the R and is it true the fuel tank is plastic now? I also was not impressed with that TFT from the 660 models on the new R, which is why I'm more interested in the RS. However, if the RS is more of a stretch and less upright than the R, then that would be a deal breaker for me. I did love the power on the new R and it does have a bit more of a growl to the exhaust. What are your thoughts on the seating position of the RS vs. the R? Unfortunately I could not ride an RS yet, but hopefully one will come into my dealership soon. Also looking at a leftover 2021 MV Agusta Turismo Veloce Rosso, which I saw your reviewed several years ago. Enjoy your channel immensely!

I have an RS from 2020 and I suppose I had similar concerns. I’m not a fast rider and I don’t do track days but I still bought the RS. 3 and a half years on, I bought the bike outright 6 months ago because it’s so good and I intend to keep it. I set the suspension to it’s comfort setting and it’s not harsh at all. The tyres are basically road legal racing tyres but they work around town just fine… I suppose the only downside of them is I wore them both out in just over 5000 miles and they were pretty expensive for a new pair so that would be something to consider if you do a lot of miles. All that said, if I was to buy one of the new bikes I would buy the RS (even though the R would be good enough)

I love the street triples but both have rubbish dashes. The R one looks cheap and is taken from the Tiger Sport 660 and the RS dash is the worse TFT going and the same as the prevoius model that no one liked. Maybe they'll sort it next year and give both bikes the dash they deserve. One other thing those header pipes look a bit of a mess too.

I've just purchased an R as I don't do track days. The red and yellow are an extra £200 making the difference £1900. The white in the R is also an extra £200.

Probably it's not iPhone against GoPro. Each has it's pros and cons. You use both on your walk arounds. Specially on the seating position bit I would have liked a second camera to see your side instead of the front and the perspective was already a bit fisheyed. So if you use 2 cameras in 2 different positions for your garage talks? I've never made friends with the insectoid look of Speed Triples or others like KTMs, but I'm sure that to ride one must be a big pleasure. Triples are my favorite motor concept, "the best of both worlds", smooth and wild unite! I prefer the look of the Trident, more classic tho, perfect bike for sunday afternoon back lane weazzeling. And yes, Triumph rarely hits my color scheme, more classic green and less grafics. Fortunately my Speed Twin's unique black!

iPhone was fine. I noticed both bikes had heated grips which I didn’t think was standard. I’m not a fan of TFT and find the unit on the R is, shall we say, not at all attractive, and is the one reason why I eventually chose not to swop my 2021 R for a new one. Also I understand that with the new TFT machines a dealer reset is required if the battery is disconnected. Your comment about the extra bhp of the RS, which it should have over the R, being hardly noticeable was interesting. There is a 10mm spacer on the top of the RS rear suspension unit which can be removed, termed by Triumph as a suspension linkage adjustment 🤣 Is this the way the rake on the front is increased, by raising the rear end? Is the RS worth the extra crinkle, if you’ve ever ridden a Street Triple, whichever model, I doubt you will have found the real need for more urgency in power delivery. However Triumph’s total lack of imagination on colour schemes could well be the only real reason to goe RS as the enhanced techy bits will only give bragging rights.

Nice vid Andy! The yellow one! 😉😉. The IPhone should be better…..as when you do your walk-rounds. Nothing wrong with the vid quality here.

@@TheMissendenFlyer yes. For me It’s always obvious on the walk rounds. The quality improves when you switch to your cam. Btw my old 675 Daytona was yellow, as were my TR7 and TR6 (cars), so it’s probably just me! 😂😂

@@TheMissendenFlyer if I’m doing low light or media at home or at work, when I’m scratting around under a sugar mill, I always do it with my bigger digital camera. Bigger lens is always better in low light and eons better that a go-pro.

I appreciate your opinions since so many other reviews I have seen are from very experienced, track focused riders. The extra money? For me, this is a no brainer. I will not be doing track days, the difference in power and better brakes means nothing to a rider of my modest abilities, so I see no real advantage in the RS. Thanks for your vid

Much awaited for video Mr Flyer, and not dissapointed. 2 great looking bikes. BUT.....the only things I would change on the R, for my sort of riding would be the colour schemes, and the rear view mirrors, to bar end ones. But as you say, neither would look out of place on the roads.

I have had an fz1 for quite some time and have been looking for something else to run alongside as just a dry weather toy. My riding is on roads similar to your review run. However i havent thought about downsizing as im 6ft and 16st would this be an issue as the bike looks great.

@@TheMissendenFlyer I think the better brakes, dash (IMHO), suspension, geometry/turn in, extra engine power, belly pan and seat cowl (would cost you £300 just to put these on an R), sticky tyres, makes it a better value proposition and it’s not a huge increase in price for all this. Not to mention better colours and able to have symmetrical headlamps which is better for my OCD! I also think it will be easier to sell on in the future as most people think it’s more desirable so depreciation likely to be better too. I think the R is awesome too, but for me definitely the RS if you can afford it.
