I do always think that you need to invest in a decent tool set. At the very least, a Ratchet. I’ve had the halfords advanced tool set for over 6 years now and it’s invaluable and comes with a lifetime warranty.Combine that with a decent set of handled Allen keys, torque wrench and other bits, and you’ll be laughing and no longer struggling. Keep up the good work dude!

I had visions of the tank getting scratched or dinged when you were having problems with the bar end mirrors, I always covet the tank & painted parts when there's a chance of slipping etc, also always take your watch off, saves the chance of any accidental damage, bit over the top maybe but I've learnt from previous gaffes 👌

A good little tip which does use the grab handle, is buying a bicycle rear light from Wilkinson that flashes alternately or just on, so if you are unlucky enough to break down or get a puncture in a unlit road you will still have rear lights, as it does not seem possible to have lights with ign switched off (Wilco light fits in mins to grab bar)

Centrestand discovery. 😂🤣 Miss Flyer: "Omg! What's this big thing between my legs? " Onlooker: "That's where the petrol goes." And that little yank on the socket AFTER tightening up the bolt. Is that to make sure you've stripped it? Please stop with the tools. You're a menace! I can't watch. I might have to go back to watching Stuart Fullofhimself turn a 3-minute discussion into 25 minutes of boredom.

Yay, Enfield content! To each their own and all, but I (IMHO and no offence meant of course) think that these CNC type levers and bar end mirrors are not really in keeping with the retro look (and im biased anyways as I hate bar end mirrors!) of the bike. But hey, vivre la difference. Good effort regardless, considering you dont seem to have any tools!

I cringed when you said “how hard can it be?” That is usually the precursor to having to drill out stripped bolts or spending the afternoon fishing a bolt out of the deepest darkest recesses of the fairing/engine. Fun video! RE looks great TMF. Maybe some RAM mount balls in the mirror mounts? Peace!

If you mess around fitting or changing stuff on handlebars ever again, put a thick towel over the tank. You only have to slip with a spanner or drop a nut once on the tank. I know from experience.

That insert comes out. If you screw the bolt back in a few turns and then tap it; you'll break the taper that is holding the (two piece) insert in and you can draw the piece out with the bolt. There should be new inserts with the bar end mirror set.

Hi TMF that would be a cracking idea to scramblerize it. A good pair of nobbly tyres, 2 into 1 titanium exhaust, beak front mudguard ( GS style), tidy up the rear end with a GS style number plate, matt black the engine, paint the wheels black, sump guard, engine bars, you could even get Del Boy involved foand Sealey for some tools
@WWADV
@WWADV 4 жыл бұрын
Two things for me in this install I would have done differently. I would always cover the tank when working on the handle bar area. Sometimes, I even cover the front fender as I have made expensive mistakes as the spanner or socket drops free and onto the metal painted bits. Also, you could have pulled out the factory bar weights by attaching the factory screw back into the weights, then using a large pair of pliers or crescent wrench to provide a solid piece to hammer against using a dead blow mallet against to drive out the screw/bar weights. Then use the new bar end/weight as it was designed. Good video though, with good content. Looking forward to see your transformation of the RE. Cheers from Arkansas.

A good habit to get in to is, every time you take a bolt out or nut off add some anti seize grease before you put it back. (Or if it was threadlocked, replace the threadlock.). It makes life so much easier further down the line. I'm interested to see how the scamblerize project evolves as I was contemplating one of the new Norton Rangers but can't really justify the cost of one as a second bike. This may be a more wallet friendly option.

Great. Ideal watching this at home, what with the bad weather and me recovering from a cold. True what a weight some of those parts are. I just bought a second hand 2019 CB500X as a second bike (to my T120) and took the pannier racks off, which weigh a helluva lot, but adding a centre stand, which also weighs a lot. Those bar end mirrors look great. Well done and thanks.

Have to say though you gave a thumbs up for the parts, those bar end mounts for the mirrors are clearly not made specifically for that bike. If they were they would have had a milled base to match the groove on the bars that they could not fill. They look nice and I'm sure will last well, and for a freebie it's fine but had I paid for anodised alloy parts like that I'd be wanting a better fit 🤷🏻‍♂️

Quite right Beozzie… Warming the screw with a hot air gun will soften the thread locker, the same as you do when removing brake discs (Harley manuals even tell you to warm the disc bolts to 'touch hot' before trying to undo them). Expanding bar plugs normally require the screw to be undone a few turns, then tapped with a hammer to return the expander inside, allowing the clamping part to retract and release the plug. They work the same way as a Rawl Bolt.

One thing to check when changing the levers is the up and down movement. With a proper bush arrangement there should be no up or down movement or play. So many standard levers have way too much play in the up and down direction, indicating poor tolerances. A good reference is normally the levers on a BMW. These always seem to be precise with very little play. Just a thought, can the mirrors be mounted below the bars for a cleaner look. Not sure if you would be able to see behind in this arrangement but it works on some bikes.

Good evening Mr Flyer. I'm looking at the TEC bar end mirrors for my Inter too. They have a good vid that might help you eliminate that gap and make them more rigid. Looking at the bar end weight and the end of the handlebar they are half-recessed so that they fit together without spinning. TEC recommend that you get busy with a file for a minute or two and do this to the part they supply. That will close up the gap and help stop anything moving. Good vid though. When will we see you actually riding it, and when will you tell us about those aftermarket pipes (did I miss it?). Keep up the good work.

Hello TMF loving the MODS.. the bar ends worked out ok.. But what may make your life easier later is the fact that if you had simply wound back the allen head screw with the key and tapped the allen screw back into the bar it would have pushed the wedge shaped cone inside the bar end, which causes the aluminium bit that you were thinking of filing down to expand and grip the inside of the bar then the whole thing would pull out. I'm sure that if you look at the one that came with the mirror you will get the idea. But they'd on as it is and they won't go anywhere. I'm sure that many people will inform you about this but it is one in the memory bank for later..Best regards

The bar ends are usually fitted to a expanding plug. If you loosen the screw and give it a tap with a hammer the expanding plug usually comes loose and you can reposition them. And please buy som decent tools (will make your life easier)

put an old bit of cloth over the tank while your hands are flying around with spanners in them after snapping those factory nuts open. Nice job, but cant say i like the style of handle bars - its as if they are an after thought. Looks like your lean over the tank should be slightly more forward in a more restful posture.

Those bar end mirrors are just imported Generic bar end mirrors, I got exactly the same set for £20. That’s quite a mark up from Tec Bike parts.

Yeah, but that's £20 more than Andy paid. But he can't agree with you or his freebie supply will dry up.

Looks a wedge better. On my Moto Guzzi V7 I was able to turn the mirror mounts upside down to hide the holes, but it doesn't look like you can on the RE

Looks heaps better minus the grab handle!👍🏼 Just an aside TMF in getting that end weight off with said “dubious” Allen key. Just a tap on the drive end(?), not the leverage end of the key as you “try” to undo it sometimes can be enough to loosen it. But yeah done the bloody same with inferior tools! Like the adjustable levers too, & bar end mirrors. Looks trick😎

Much better lighting this time. I thought the touring seat on the Continental felt and looked a lot better than the standard seat as well.

Lucky you chewed the Allen key and not the handlebar end Allen socket. A 3/8 socket set with Allen key sockets would give you more leverage. Of course you never know whether any thread locker has been used at the factory, and a little gentle heat from Mrs Flyer’s hairdryer would help with that. Also, like your mirrors, it’s often a 50/50 guess as to whether anything has a left hand or right hand thread. Righty tightly, lefty loosy?

Nice videoTMF, i would say that not grinding the lugs off, where the sissy bars go, is a better idea, you might want to put them back on if you sell the bike at some stage.

I am seriously considering one of these next year to be my 'weather's a bit rough so I'll use the Enfield' kind of bike. Do you think it will hold up ok to rain and salty roads? 🤔👍

I wish they did a colour scheme for the Royal Enfield that dialled back on the chrome a bit. I think the bike would look so much better if the engine came in a brushed steel or a black finish instead of shiny and chrome.

Viewing after the customising debacle. Bar-end mirrors are lovely, but despite what today's fashionistas are doing, they only really work on clip-ons. As to removing the pillion grab handle.... Back in the day they offered a big measure of protection for those inevitable spills. I often rode without mirrors (London courier in the 80s) but they do offer a little reduction in risk when you can't look all ways at once. As to saving weight.... Don't give that a thought. On the highway, whatever the press tell you, you will barely notice 5Kg. You will notice (at once) very good or very bad tyres. But a few kilos.... on the road..... You will not.

TMF do you still follow Delboy’s Garage? He’s continually taking his customizing skills to levels most of us can only dream about. You ever tempted to make something from scratch? I only try if what I want can’t be bought & then only little bits’n’bobs like brackets, mounting plates etc. I strongly recommend it purely for the immense sense of satisfaction when it works (= if it works!).

Try a black " Magic Marker ", " Sharpie " or whatever the local marker brand is. Would probably leave a simulated black chrome finish.

TEC Bike parts do produce quality accessories. Good to see your honesty in letting the viewers know that the accessories were given to you, as there are a few motorcycle KZbinrs I use to watch who have now turned into Social Media Influencers and allowing viewers to think they have been out and bought parts, accessories, tools etc. No doubt the lure of money and the thought giving up the mundane day job has turned them into snake oil salesmen. Surely KZbin should make it compulsory that youtubers declare free gifts, I follow a channel called Double Boost and when John does a reviews he is always dead honest and declares that the tool was given to him and when people use the affiliate links he is paid a small commission Great new website ------------------------------

Very nice ..even I the pureist think the tek(Tec, ?) parts are well made and functional as well as asthetically pleasing ..so they must be good !. A bit of blue thread lock on the bar end mirrors and a touch of copper grease on the grab rail bolts will see you well in the future . Looking forward to the further scramblerisation . Peace and love young Mr Flyer 👍🏻☮❤

If Tec Bike Parts did a solo half length seat, and a small aluminium carrier to replace the pillion seat, I think that would look better than the Triumph Street Scrambler.
