I have had a tracer 9gt and a gt+ loved both of them, the split screen on the 9gt is really an issue only for reviewers who are on it for a day, after a short while you get completely used to it and the option of specifying the info you like in the right screen is useful. Yes the gt+ screen is better but the real win is the cruise control and the improved quickshifter

I had a 2014 tiger sport 1050 as well. I loved it, but these are a step up, no doubt. Shame about the dreadful state of some the cities (Birmingham, Bradford, etc.). The contrast between that and the "real Britain" really is astonishing, I felt. I owned a 2015 FJ-09 for a while, and that CP3 engine was so great. With the full Akra exhaust it sounded amazing. It was pretty lacking in touring features and the suspension was bottom shelf. I eventually got rid of it for more premium rides. I've watched as they have really leveled up all the models with the CP3. The Tracer 9 GT+ has really come a long way from the earlier FJ-09/Tracers. I recently rode this bike as a tester and absolutely LOVED it, what a machine. I am sports bike person, who was looking for more comfort and road focussed ride. Was on an MT10SP and wanted something slightly more subdued and better suited for lesser weathered riding. I ended up buying the Suzuki GSXS1000-GX mainly due to the ridiculous pop offer on it, too good to pass up. but if this bike had a similar deal I'd have picked it all day long. This is literally a better faired and more comfortable MT09SP - The front end on the tracer feels so planted compared to the MT09 and it offers loads more feedback compared to the Suzuki. I really wish Yam had a 0% with extras offer on there, but alas. Front brake also beats out the Suzuki, due to the Brembo master cylinder. However they are more wooden under harder braking after initial bite. Subjective though. I spanked the thing to make sure it would keep me happy when out with more spirited folks and it sure does. Fast as hell - the triple is superb. Handling is tight and focussed and comfort is amazing, the screen on it is also WAY better than the Suzuki too. SO yeah, one day I will have one.

I wish the suspension had more settings or even a manual adjustment( they don’t have any so no need to RTF, lol). Engine is superb and quick shifting is smooth. Not a fan of the clutch take up and it is a major gripe on forums; it takes up near the end of the travel and feels sticky when trying to launch smoothly. Yes, the scenery from the UK looks great. We do have some places in Canada that resemble that, but we tend to be tearing down old architecture.

Tried a 1250gs trophy at the ABR festival in 2023 and bought one in December 2023. Best bike for roads and touring i have ever ridden. Tried the Tracer gt+ at the ABR this year and was underwhelmed by the experience. Tried overtaking in 5th gear from 40mph and found myself on the wrong side of the road going nowhere! The low down power just is not there, the GS buggers off 2 up in 5th, from as low as 30mph, or indeed any bloody gear or rpm. To be honest once you have ridden one, other similar bikes feel, well, less somehow. I had a tracer 9 for 3 years, a 2015 model, and it was a hoot to ride on the back roads, but turbulence at motorway speeds killed it for me. Tried everything to cure it but just could not live with it ultimately.

Couldn't agree more, but I would say that having moved up from a 900GT to a GT+ this time last year. Nearly 8k under the belt now, it's been superb as a tourer and commuter. You've covered all the positives, but for balance my only negatives would be the Garmin-based need to pay for Satnav (stuck to Waze via my phone on a mount), the seat needs a bit more comfort (resolved with an Air hawk on a low inflation) and some slight vibration through the right-hand bar at motorways speeds (investigated by the dealer but unresolved, said to be possibly a characteristic of the triple). Still, more than happy with this bike, simply fun and incredible value for money. And, I should add, it's the only bike I've had and never felt the need to replace the stock exhaust. Not sure what they've done with this one, but it sounds awesome.

The quickshifter is the biggest improvement in my opinion, love the radar cruise - a proper game-changer, the rear brake has more bite and of course the display is 100% better. I kept my touring screen from the old bike so not experienced the OEM. My big niggle is the stupid Garmin/Yamaha satnav link that is really difficult to sync with the screen and has a stupidly slow refresh rate. Great through first ride review 👍. Just a few comments from someone who has owned one for about 6 months: I just didn’t get on with the windscreen, and living in a hot climate I opted for the shortest one I could find so all of my helmet was in the air. (It seems most of the turbulence on the shoulders is from the mirrors 🤔.) The optional heated comfort seat has gel pads right where your hip bones are, and for those of us afflicted with “Noassatol” it’s wonderful 🤪! The panniers are a bit odd shaped, but the mounting and latching operation is well thought out and easy to use. It’s nice to be able to leave them unlocked for easy access until you re parked up, and still securely locked to the bike at all times. The “Custom” setting allows for choosing the throttle and suspension separately. So if you like a sport throttle but the pavement is crap you can set it with the “softer” suspension setting. (For me, I use the “Custom” setting in Street throttle and firmer suspension when carrying a pillion 😉.) Cheers !

I'm not a touring rider but I enjoy motorcycles. My 2 friends who I usually ride with have a Multistrada Pikes Peak, the other have a 2022 GS. We swap bikes regularly and I test rode a gt+ and I couldnt answer why anyone would spend a LOT more money on the other 2 bikes. Yes, the GS is more of a big cruiser, the pikes peak is sportier but the tracer sits somewhere in the middle, it's more than comfy enough and you don't anymore speed on the road than it provides either. and again, it does all that for a lot less money.

Tracers are great. Have a 2020 900GT. You can even club race them successfully against inline fours. See Mark Shellinger on a Tracer 900 finishing top four in amateur racing. Awesome bike!

Value for money, this moto has it. Always a few faults to be found. People have more faults, adjusting is how we deal with them. Having 5 bikes of different flavors, I know this for a fact. Sort of like having a different wife for each mood of riding. Lol...and to be watching the review made in July (the month I was born) was fab. 👍👍

Another good review of, what looks like a very capable motorbike. Would definitely go for that colour scheme to if I was looking at buying one. As for the often used phrase 'to many electronic aids to mention', it is one I hear often, and can totally agree with. Perhaps it is partly because: A. I fail to see any great difference in my riding , (probably down to me) lol and B. We don't know that many of them are actually doing there job. Though some are a great aid in riding. But also, it's more to go wrong, more expensive to fix and harder for mechanically minded people to do at home. This may contribute to some dealerships closing, but with so many I think bad aftersales service is another contribution.

See, now that the 2025 one builds on this, with the YAMT box...I think it's a real win. I never really like the switch gear in Yam's, but even that looks vastly improved - will have to pop to my local dealer (Woking I think...happen to be going there for the panto soon [OH YES I AM]).

I love the concept of this bike to the extent I went to look at it. However, for me the front end where the vertical front fairing comes down makes it look a bit odd. Every time I look at one I can only think of one of those Victorian handlebar moustaches 😂😂. Anyway doesn’t matter, you swayed me on a previous vlog where you rode a 2005 Honda Blackbird and I bought one. It’s a 2007 bike and rides beautifully for a fraction of the cost of this. Oh, and when I sell it I’ll probably get my money back 😄.

Nice review. The Tracer is a bike that will be on my radar for sure. I wonder if you can get one with less electronics. I ride more for the visceral experience and I want a bike that has less electronics than my car. I have been riding for nearly 50 years, and while I appreciate some of the improvements, I am slow to adopt the latest levels. Like in a car, I don't want a computer that could take control of the bike, like in braking, etc. I have made my peace with antilock braking, but it sounds like this might have collision avoidance, etc. I have had issues in cars with adaptive cruise control and as good as it may be, I have experienced the downside of it when the vehicle sees something that isn't really there. So, I couldn't trust it on a bike. Love the scenery as always.
@SimOvScotАй бұрын
A very enjoyable and helpful review. Thanks. I can quite understand how this bike will have massive appeal particularly if, as you say, this would be your only bike in the stable. Yamaha have certainly thrown some tech' into it. The panniers I hear are a bit short on capacity...OK for two-up weekend, but even with a topbox it might be tight for a full week away. Aesthetically, for me, it doesn't have the 'look back' factor...as you walk away from the bike across a car park, do you want to look back at it?

I have the 2022 Tracer 9 GT, with the old dash and no radar cruise, you nailed this review! The buffeting from the windscreen is awful for taller riders, it feels like someone is tapping my head like a bongo drum. Aftermarket MRA Vario windshield is much better. That and the uncomfortable seat are the 2 main gripes on the forums, though I've gotten used to the seat over time. Otherwise, excellent bike, you're right about the emphasis on the "sport" in the "sport-touring" label. Engine sound and power are addictive!

How tall are you that the buffeting impacts your head because that is a deal kiler, no one wants a toyota size windshield on a bike either.... maybe best take off the screen all together
@MotoDude1967Ай бұрын
@@guzziman You're right, the buffeting is a deal breaker, makes the ride miserable. I'm 6'1", like I wrote, the MRA Vario windshield solves the problem, it's curved so any wind I get on my head is clean.

Looks like a really good all rounder although I personally don’t understand the current fashion for gold forks, much prefer anodised aluminium or similar. Regarding the screen, was wondering what the thinking is regarding the much narrower lower part. I would like to see a comparison with a BMW 900 and especially a Voge 900 (it’d be great if you could get your hands on one for an extended period….seems fantastic value!)

I really don't get the current trend for 'shiny primer'. Looks bloody awful & the vehicles completely vanish in dull or misty conditions. What has happened to 'proper' colours?

This review still very relevant as it's the bike in the dealers now - & when the new one starts arriving may well benefit from a discount. I actually like the quirky looks, and could well be tempted; not as a GS but an RS replacement. Love the RS, but this could satisfy my sporting pretensions, whilst giving my dodgy shoulder & wrist a comfier ride, all at a good price.

Nice bike. Last time I rode a Tracer was when they introduced it. Been riding bikes for 40 years, so I’m in my late 50’s. Love adventure bikes, particularly those more sporty and road focused. Love a big capacity bike too. But I reckon this bike could be comfortable and scratch the itch. I also know, at 5’7” that my Goldilocks seat height is 79-81cm. It is what it is. This bike is 82 and smidge too tall. I’ve tested all the new big adventure bikes and love the performance, comfort and tech but they’re too tall. Well they were until the R1300GS came out with the fancy seat height adjustment. With the low seat it’s 80cm. Perfect for me. So I bought one. It makes you wonder how many potential buyers manufacturers miss due to seat height when otherwise the bike ticks all the boxes.

I picked up my new Tracer 9 GT+ last Sat. I had the 21 MT09-SP before this. Early days yet but very good upgrade so far. It might be my forever bike. Yamaha UK have a £1,500 discount running until 20th Dec, which made purchasing this a no brainier. Loving the, hand guards, adaptive cruise control, the bigger fuel tank, heated grips and the centre stand. Not so good is the Garmin subscription, why can’t I use the phone connection and goggle maps? I was disappointed to see the same poor indicators that easily pop out of place and are a pain to refit. I can live with these though. Nice review and well put together.

I bought non plus version (Tracer 9 GT) with 1000 miles on it for 10k - fully specs what was possible except the extras from plus - it is seriously the best value for the money one can have today. I am 100% sure Yamaha reliability is way above BMW. And this engine ... - amazing performance and sound (when above 5k rpm). Design/style? That is for sure individual and I am ok with that.

Nice review. Reminds me of the Triumph 955ST I had around '99 or 2000. A 900 triple is a good engine size for an all-rounder type of bike. If I was younger I could easily go for this, but I'm welded to shaft-drive, flat twins now. For the same money I would wait for a two to three-year-old 1300 GS. BTW I thought riding the Yamaha in sport mode then complaining the suspension is too firm is like buying an XL Bully and complaining it's a bit aggressive.

Tiger 955i is my touring & jollies bike. A bit tall but does everything I want without the gadgets I don't need. Cheaper to insure than previous Street Triple.
