I am from South Wales and I know these roads well. Pembrokeshire, (or Little England within Wales as it is known), is probably my favourite part of Wales with brilliant roads. Unfortunately, like so many other parts of Wales, irresponsible drivers and riders have caused the speed limits to be lowered over the past 10-15 years down to 50mph and 40mph but really glad to hear that you have enjoyed your tour of South Wales so far.

I just realised I visited those waterfalls with friends four years ago, in February, so I know exactly where you were in this episode. The area you travelled through is absolutely cracking; we had both heavy downpours and bright sunshine while we were exploring it but it was lovely all the same. During the soggy moments we explored the interiors of pubs (it was awful, I hated every moment :-) ). The pub on the opposite side of the river was really lovely, roaring fire, really friendly welcome, and great beers. The food was good too as I recall. As others have said, classic TMF. ;-)

Was talking to a fellow rider in a sun drenched Northumberland village, yesterday who had a lovely 2018 Gold Wing. He had a BMW GS and traded it in for the Honda, and funnily enough commented that in his opinion the vast majority of GS riders actually need a proper tourer like the Gold Wing........not an adventure bike they use for touring. Food for thought.

It's a reasonable point, but how many sports bike owners take them racing? I've got a watch waterproof to 1000 meters, clearly I'm never diving that deep, I just like it. GS is a great all-rounder, gold wing is a one trick pony! That being said, it's a awesome pony!
@kraut48943 жыл бұрын
The thing with bikes are that they are very personal. It also depends on where you ride (lots of corners, straight open roads, motorways, sand roads, etc). My favorite is the BMW GS Adventure because of tank size, 2 up comfort & versatility. However I am fortunate that as long as it has 2 wheels, I am happy. The best bike in my opinion is the bike you are riding at that particular time
@tonebonetones3 жыл бұрын
@@jameswalton8532 His point was not that GS riders don't go off road. It was that the vast majority of GS owners actually go touring with those god awful sticky out aluminium box panniers, when something like the Goldwing - or even arguably the BMW RT - are superior for this purpose, with their panniers designed to blend in to the bike's lines as much as possible at the design stage: the GS's are bolt on afterthoughts. Hence my initial comment re Mr. Flyer's video about his touring....on a GS.....when he has a superior touring bike in his garage.
@jameswalton85323 жыл бұрын
@@tonebonetones I agree,that's a fair statement! I do dislike the notion that GS's are for posers doing the coffee shop run on a Sunday morning, I try to use mine as they are intended, wild camping off the beaten track as much as I can. What a great trip 👌 As you say, wonderful weather for Wales. I'm very biased & LOVE Garmin Basecamp. It's taken a wee bit of time to fully master it, but it is one of the most powerful pieces of software for tracking, routing, & sorting POI's. I have 1000's of POI's, plus routes and all my previous tracks saved in Basecamp. I can transfer these to my Garmin SatNav, my phones, my computer, and any other SatNav I have 👌 This is great, as when I'm out and about, I can see any previous track or routes of interesting roads, plus I can get notified of POI's I may wish to visit 🤗 This is all well & good, but I really am with you regarding MAPS 👍 I love the larger view you get with a map (not a teeny tiny screen), which allows you to plan better 👌 On another note, I do as you do, I usually enter major or interesting towns along my intended path. This allows me to pop into the town (cuppa, snack, petrol), or to just skip the waypoint, whereby Garmin takes me around the town to the next one... Whilst navigating like this, I use the compass feature which allows me to concentrate on the road & take in the beautiful scenery I am riding through 🤗 This also means I'm not stuck to riding the roads that the Garmin thinks I should be 😱 Keep up your excellent work regarding these videos 👌 #TravellingWizzard

Basecamp the main reason I went with Garmin, use it with the car and bike's GPS's, planning ahead makes more sense then jumping in/on the car/bike, pressing a magic button and hoping it all works out, plus it's half the fun of it, working out the routes in advance. The GPS can however change the route if it feels like it. I uploaded a route to Copenhagen over the Storebaelt Bridge on Basecamp, however my GPS detoured me over 300 miles and added a ferry crossing without mentioning it.

Most excellent TMF. But you have highlighted why so many of us travel abroad when allowed. Uk is so expensive. Yes each bike has its place - I'm fortunate enough to be able to have both depending on the mission requirement...

Don't worry about mullering Welsh place names, it gives us a laugh and we are very friendly and forgiving😁, sat nav has fun with them as well.

Glad to see you sporting the Helite vest!! Motels in the US are extremely expensive as well. Pent up travel demand I assume.

Yes I’m trying to get into the habit of wearing the airbag on every ride….

BaseCamp a nuisance? ...That's incredible generous :) Nice to see you back on tour on the GS.

The Nags Head mentioned at 16.30 does excellent food if you're back in the area at all. Also for a proper breakfast try the TY Creoso/Jenkins cafe in Newcastle Emlyn - their full welsh is probably the best breakfast I've ever had.

A trip around my home area (although I live in the NW now) - what a great trip. Now that you've convinced me to buy a Wing, I'll have to take it for a trip "home".

I'm a fan of Wales 🏴 too. Lovely people, fantastic scenery. Two weeks ago I did Snowdonia and some of the roads TMF did with the boys in blue. Can highly recommend. 😀🏍️

I sincerely hope you didn’t miss the culinary highlight that is the New Celtic chippy in Aberaeron ! Great run from Lampeter to the coast…. In fact it’s all fab, stunning part of the UK.

I use tomtom for trip planning, but save the route as a gpx file, then load that into my garmin, really easy to do as well !!!

Mr. Flyer all your viewers can't just take the trip in Wales. I'm from Texas. But, I love your trips no matter where they are.

Had my first look at the new generation Laser Guided Speed Gun yesterday. More Police forces have them every month. Can measure from .9 mile but calibrated to 750 metres. Measures speed, reads number plate and automatically generates an NIP with HD film to back it up. Even PCSOs can be trained to use them. Only downside is they cost £10K each. Looks like its game up for Sports bike riders in the UK!!
