2018 BMW F750GS Review: Having recently ridden the new BMW F850GS here's my first ride review of it's road oriented brother the F750GS. Don't be put off by the naming convention, this is still the same engine in largely the same bike with a slightly different engine tune, changed seat and ride height, road focused wheels and a cheaper price tag - the good news is the bike still retains the best of the good features of it's high priced brother....stay tuned to find out more!

Great review as always. I stepped down from a 1200GS to a F750GS Sport and it’s the best thing I ever did. Lovely engine with character and bags of grunt. I live in Devon and my commute is a mixture of farm lanes, fast A roads and twisty B roads and it does it all and gives me a smile on my face. The 1200GS was nice, but a bit “beige”. This one is a huge step up on the fun factor too.

I'm a paramotor pilot, so share your passion for the skies. I'm also a motorcyclist, that hasn't had a bike now for 5 years. In the past I've had 1000cc sports bikes to a Harley Fatboy. Always a great review from TMF. Often the place that these smaller BMW's fill in the real world is missed. What I appreciate about your reviews is that you come at the task from a rider who isn't pretending to have ability above the average. Keep it real as always TMF. I've been riding motorbikes for 47 years and I'm sure I'm well up on you when it comes to White Vans.

@@maxflight777 Im on my second BMW. Maybe that doesnt make me an enthusiast but I must agree, the rotax engine is pretty much bulletproof. My 700gs (800cc engine) made 100k kilometres without any issue or oil consumption (Ive never had to top it). I just did the ordinary maintenance and top it with fuel. Sure it's not a lot of mileage but still a lot can go wrong. The only issue was with the clutch, gone in 20k kilometers but changed whithin warranty. Still, despite being a bit expensive on the maintenance front compared with my old hondas, I cant really fault it. Good mpg as well. Funny thing with this made in China engine, I remember in 2014 when I was on the market, I really was drawn to the g650gs. Loved the looks, the simple dash and the riding position. The salesman who was friends with my cousin, made me a deal on the 700gs and told me people werent happy with the chinese made 650cc engine. I dont know if it was made by Loncin though.

I tested the 850 and the 750 back to back. The 750 is a nice bike, good torque, easy to ride and well built but the 850 is a terrific bike, really punchy and very good at higher speeds. It's just more exciting to ride. Plus the higher seating position gives you a more commanding feel of the road/view. I do think base prices are a bit misleading. Options are a fortune but the heart of the bike, the engine on the 850 is exactly what I'm looking for. Fast but not so powerful it dominates the whole bike experience (very rare to find places you can use eg 130 - 150hp anyway). Torquey low down and smooth up top (that's very impressive). I didn't expect to find the 850 better than the 750 round town but the 21 inch wheel makes it really easy to turn, so it is. Feels light, nimble, good road presence, powerful and cool! I had two random people comment on the bike positively on my test ride.

I ride the 750 for work (blood bikes) on a 19 plate, and it sounds like a real tractor. Speaking to all the other lads, and we all thought it was actually a 750! 🤷🏻 the dash screen on ours is totally different, so you can see how much it’s changed. We have the taller screens and yes they make a difference. The gearbox on mine is incredibly chunky, and I just assumed that was all BMWs. I find the riding position to be more sports than adventure bike.

Great review even if on this occasion I don’t agree with your conclusion. As you know, I had put in to get the F850GS sport and ended up plumping for the R1200GS TE. That said, surely if it was between the 750 and 850 it would be a no brainer to go for the slightly more punchier version - both for resale values and appeal but also you’d always yearn for the extra power you know the engine plant you have can be tuned to deliver more grunt.

Nice VLOG. The F 750 GS drives indeed very nicely. The look is a matter of taste. Quality of craftsmanship appears high. What I didn't like too much was the weight centre which appeared quite high compared to the low mass centre of the boxer engine versions. So, one needs to be attentive when it come to a stop.

Hi thanks for another nice video; i don’t understand why BMW F750GS is coming with a ridiculously useless so small windshield! A another think i don’t understand is why they are producing it with same motor as the 850 but with much less power !?!? I think it’s still a nice Road focused adventure bike that can also go on light dirt roads but i really don’t understand the ridiculous windscreen & the less power motor. So i think i prefer the Tiger 800. Live long, ride safe & prosper 🖖🏼 By the way, even if it’s more street oriented bike then the 850, at his selling price point the front forks should be inverted ones! A detailed comparative review with the Tiger800 would be nice & appreciated😃

I can't speak for the diesel's, but the old BMW cars used to be the last 2 digits were engine size (330i was a 3.0L I6). Since the turbo models were introduced, the whole naming convention has been turned upside down where a 320i and 330i both have 2.0T engines. But the F7XXGS/F8XXGS have always had the same engine but power output is usually only about a 10HP difference. I have the F700GS, and for me, it has more than enough power...

Cheers TMF. Another quality vlog sir. Quality bike too. What does surprise me is your comment regarding the power plant. I would of thought the Tiger engine to be more eager n fun, and would sway a lot of buyers toward Triumph. Apparently not. Beemer, you've gotta love their products. They don't get much wrong.

Another great review have looked at the f750 as alternative to current 1200. You can spec it exactly the same as the 1200 with keyless ignition but only at a cost. As you know with BMW all the bits come in different packages so heated grips and hand guards different package to DTC. The bike doesn’t come as standard with TFT either that’s another £595.

Here's a question for you mr. Flyer: if you were given the option to trade in your 1200GS for a new F750GS with no extra charge, bike keys for bike keys - would you take it? Let's say a bigger screen is thrown in for free too. The reason why I'm asking is - most owners, you included (no offense of course), don't really take their big 1200GSes off road. So for on road usage, doesn't the F750 fit the bill pretty much perfectly? It has less power and "prestige" but seems to me like a great option for road touring. The F800/850 is a different animal however, seen many a video of those on round the world trips, that's a proper "adventure" (off road) bike

Chinese engineering: I don't have any doubts about the engineering etc BUT I do have an aversion to supporting a regime with extremely questionable ethics regarding Human Rights and Abuses, Wildlife Conservation & Animal Welfare, their Expansionist Policies regarding neighbouring Asian territories etc. That's my PERSONAL view and I certainly would never condemn or criticise anyone for not sharing that view. BTW : I'm a 54 year old with 30 years in the offshore oil industry who has spent a lot of times in many of the shi7holes of this planet .... The fork looks cheap and by the way is non-adjustable and not upside down, seems a bit of bounce there too? Perhaps the mic isn't picking the engine sound correctly but it sounds flat and boring compared to the Tiger 800's triple, which has an addictive induction roar. I'll have to try one but not sold on the latest mid-capacity BMW's, looks like they've sought out cheaper production costs for more profit, whereas Triumph doesn't appear to have gone cheap on key components.

Now I have two questions. 1. Is the difference on power of the 750, of the 850 and of my 800r to happen for you if you travel alone or duo? 2. would you wait for the RS if you are looking for a road version of the f-series or buy just the 750?

Great review TMF. I test rode the F850GS from Maidenhead a few weeks back. It stood very tall and with a 30" inside leg I had to get them to put the lower seat on but I still found it a stretch. I understand the F750GS is lower so that would be good. I found the small screen was worse than a naked (I ride an RnineT) as the wind hit the back on my neck. It went well as you say and handled nicely and great plush ride. I found the fact the front end stays straight when you steer the front wheel at low speed a bit disconcerting on such a tall bike. Overall I felt a bit disappointed

@TheMissendenFlyer since getting this bike, I have swapped out the sound resonator and put a dominator mid pipe on her, she sounds beautiful now, also I have changed the GPS bracket from the steering column above the screen and purchased the Nav6 which goes well just above the TFT dash, I removed the naff screen, and replaced it with the F850gs adventure screen adjustable bracket and put in a medium screen, which is now perfect in the higher mode, it covers the GPS above the TFT Dash and wind goes straight over my head, also put some SW Motech crash bars on her, just waiting on my vario cases now and she is ready for a big trip once COVID restrictions are done. Loving the bike and using it every day to bang up the miles and run her in. I tested the F850gs, but couldn't flat foot, now looking at having the ECU flashed in Germany so it is up to the F850gs specs.

I have the shorter 'rallye' screen on my 2017 GS 1200 and it works so much better than the taller / standard screen. 'Clean' air. Yes, some noticeable additional wind noise, but it's definitely more wind protection than 'naked'. Rode it to Portugal and back this summer no problem. Less is more with screens unless you are over 6 ft tall I think.

I have a question for you. It's my perception that naked bikes are better if they are v twins or singles because of the grunt and great torque but those engines are more difficult to ride very precisely as compared to triples or fours which is why super faired bikes should be in that config less jerky given the extreme riding position and less comfort

@@TheMissendenFlyer your thoughts on my observation. Does it make any sense. Because I rode the street triple recently found it a bit boring compared to the monster or even the Duke 390 which is what I have. It lacked grunt I felt but was a lot more precise. So my question is is an inline triple or four better to ride more precisely because being jerked around when in an extreme cramped position would be defeating the purpose of precision which is what a superbike is meant to do. I've never ridden a superbike though
