Hi, we took delivery of one in India the other day with the tripper nav. Approx 2,300 GBP on road with every optional extra selected. One of the advantages of living in this country. We also live near twisty mountain roads. On the other hand, my earning power isn't quite stretching enough to get the bigger 650s so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Don't know if anyone else has already mentioned this, but the nav system isn't there because of semiconductor shortages, which is a shame. This is a real thing, I frequently buy microcontrollers and it's true that some are almost impossible to get at the moment. I'm actually buying one of these today as a second bike to complement my Harley Dyna 😃 4700 euros here in France, cheap as actual chips almost!!
@patrickcol
@patrickcol Жыл бұрын
I'm not convinced by the shortage of chips claim. You can buy the Tripper easily enough from India, they fir them to other models too. I suspect it was more to keep the price down myself.

Bullshit. These bikes are designed for emerging market. India, Thailand etc. Few ppl there give a shit for tripper. RE will sell huge volumes in those markets, the west is a nice to have it's largely irrelevant. Have a look at total new motorbike sales in india alone. Insane numbers vs all of the EU. RE dont give one fuck for EU market really and that makes sense for them. Look at the numbers. Good business for them. Very wise.

A fantastic little bike with no pretensions. Really fun to ride once you've run the motor in properly, which takes a while. I fitted bar-end mirrors and a BeeLine to fill the hole where the Tripper should be, (possibly a better device too). The display is badly designed though, far too cluttered to pick out all of the information. Getting rid of some of the info would help; like the 'Eco' display, (what's that about anyway) and the am/pm, (if you don't know wether its eight o'clock in the morning or eight o'clock at night you shouldn't be riding). There's a clock in there if you search but it takes too long to find it when you're riding. But trivial; the bike is brilliant.

Hi Andy Excellent review as always. Ignore the nahsayers. I bought one 3 weeks ago and love it. I have a Tiger and the mighty K1600 for honing and touring but the size, weight and poise makes the HNTR 350 just good fun to ride. All the important features; build quality, gearbox, clutch, handling, engine, sound and looks are spot on. It reminds me of riding the Bantam and Francis Barnet bikes we had at school motorcycle club many years ago. There are a few quirks like the ugly cable arrangement but they are insignificant. It’s a bike to enjoy motorcycling on and to ride for the pure joy of motorcycling.

An advantage where I am in British Columbia is that this bike would fit into the lowest insurance category (insurance based on capacity). I saw a note on the Enfield site explaining that the lack of the nav system was due to chip shortage. Looks like their intent was originally to include / offer it.

As an owner of both the Classic 350 and Meteor 350 I had a ride on the HNTR for a couple of hours and I have to say it was a great little bike, sadly for me 'little' being the key word here. As a 6 footer the bike felt physically small and cramped in size - a bit like riding a 125. Nevertheless Enfield have done a great job with the rest of it. That J series engine is a peach and common across all their 350 range. Don't forget the prices quoted are plus on road charges and will cost around 4 grand on the road, still very good value. Go take a test ride folks and if it feels to small have a go on the Classic or Meteor as they are physically bigger, they really are great bikes and top quality for the money.👍

It was hard to notice the vibration of the mirrors in the video, a central position of the gauge would look better or fit the tripper. I guess for the price an offset gauge is not the worst thing.
@TheArtdecovampire

Much the same can be said about the meteor. It's an addictive ride. Similar niggles about mirrors etc. The meteor side stand is less stiff, but hiking it up on the main stand takes quite a lot of heft. R E have somehow distilled the fun of traditional motorcycling in to these three small bikes and reminded everybody that you don't need a two wheeled rocket ship to reconnect. I never use the NAV, always do shortish journeys, so I wouldn't miss it.

One minor irritant for me is the centre stand. It is the most difficult bike I’ve ever owned in that respect. I think they’ve fitted the same length stand as the other J engined bikes not allowing for the fact that the Hunter 350 only has 17” wheels. I normally roll the rear wheel up on a piece of patio slab about 25mm thick and the bike just pops up on its centre stand easy peasy even wearing slippers. Comprehensive and fair review of this excellent bike.

If the front wheel is slightly going up hill it helps roll the bike back on its centre stand, i can't do it on the flat though.

I love my Hunter 350 that I bought in February and overall I'm very pleased with the bike. However, there are quite a few negatives that I would like to point out. When I bought it from my local dealer, the sump oil level was way over filled to the point I had to drain a substantial amount from the filter engine casing cover. Also the rear wheel alignment was out, so I had to adjust that myself, which is easy enough but I shouldn't have had to do it. All the (zinc?) coated nuts and bolts showed signs of corrosion after a couple of months being stored in my shed (not riding) and the rear shock has got weird white spots all over it, which don't rub off. I took the original mirrors off straight away and replaced them with a decent Oberon bar end type, because the originals look awful. But thats what you get when you buy a budget bike unfortunately. I also bought a BeeLine navigation device which fits nicely in the centre of the handlebars using the included rubber band mount.

Just picked one up over the weekend, after some serious test riding and shopping the varios competitors. I love the ride, the power is enough for surface roads. It has a pleasant, unhurried feel, and is both nice to look at, and well finished for the price. I can do all the maintenance myself, and parts are affordable and widely available.

True, I have the misfortune to live directly on the A10 so I can not escape it. Also, as well as the potholes this rubbish road was laid in sections which are now beginning to separate, so unless your bike has very soft suspension you get a spine jarring clunk at regular intervals.

There's a lot to be said for a bike that doesn't give you top of the line performance, but does give you thrills at low speeds. It's like the original Mazda MX5, not particularly fast, but more fun than most super cars at speeds which won't kill you if something goes a little bit wrong.

I took delivery of mine last week (see my video on my channel on it) I agree with the comments on the side stand and the mirrors, the Tripper I understand is due to the Chip set issue the world faces, my dad bought the Metoer 350 which has it as standard but sales said it may or may not come with it due to this issue. I'm also told (tbc) that you can't buy the tripper and fit it if it doesn't come with it due to the chip set issue, it won't work The positives are much stronger than the negatives this is a great bike that I have no doubt will do well. Nice review. It reminds me very much of the Suzuki Freewind I used to have. That's a 650 single and sounds very similar to the Hntr though obviously with more 'go', and a very rare bike in UK (more common in Europe) which is a pity as it's a great ride. The only reason I sold it was because the seat was too high for my 29" inseam and I dropped it once putting my feet down to stop on a severely adverse cambered road. That's not a problem on the Hntr I see, but for confident overtaking I think I'd want more than 350cc.

One thing I really like is the seat. Most of the time you'll be sitting straight up. But when you're doing 80 kph and the wind is jerking on your helmet, you'll be tempted to streamline yourself. Shift to the back of the seat, and your seating position will get a bias to do just that. But honestly that's the speed where biking will stop being fun anyway.

Hi there Mr m Flyer, I'm coming up to having my Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for 12 minutes. I use this more than my trans Bonneville 1200 which is a totally different machine. I enjoy seeing your reviews and I think you would agree that there's not much wrong with the Hunter 350 for me after riding it for a year, I think the clutch is sometimes heavy. The seat I can ride for an hour and I need to get off but I think it's down to suspension. Maybe could do with an upgrade but I do think it's a very good representation of a classic I like the fact that it's a 350 easy to go in amongst the traffic if you need to. It's got power enough to overtake and it's free. Economical said to be a hundred Mars to a gallon. It's all in all. What do you think? The Hunter 350 is a very good value for money bike. Mine was £3700, my total impression is that it's a great bike I'm but I buy another. Yes I would and I would give advice to people who are looking for a small mid-range bike, The Hunter 350 from Royal Enfield is worth having a look at, ride safe have a good day 🇬🇧👍

Not for me. I’ve had one as a second bike for weekend blips and never again. I had so many issues with it. Even one of my pegs came loose and fell off on the motorway. I had to get home with a foot hanging in the wind and issued a massive complaint with my dealer who took the bike back in and made sure everything was on tight. I also had massive issues with the starter motor which had to be replaced. I also understand the thing you mentioned Andy about b roads and not having too much power to get yourself into trouble but I’d argue that learning how to control your wrist and having power to get yourself OUT of trouble is more important. They are a cool looking bike but unless you haven’t tried a bigger engine I find the overall single cylinder engine to be massively underwhelming and actually very boring unless all you want is to poodle about at 40 mph. I like a bike that can do that but when you get a wee urge. You can also have a bit of fun. This one you reviewed. That off Center single clock and dangling cable is just ridiculous looking. Let’s hold these guys to higher standards. You have a huge audience. Please start being more critical so these companies feel they can’t get away with half assing things ! You have the power to make them think more. Please do it !

To show my level of self control I will say nothing about clutch/throttle cable. 🙂 The sound of the bike is nice. I've heard lots of RE twins and they always sound like a bike should. I've not yet seen or heard any of their singles here in Oz.

Tremendous video presentation, I'll be taking my MSF here soon and plan on the hunter 350 as a first bike! Of everything that is charming about the bike, the exhaust note is what ultimately wins me over. If you don't mind my asking, what brand of gloves are you using in this vid? That black w/ the white stripe on them looks pretty sleek and understated. I like that! Thank you!

They're great bikes and you did a really balanced review. Pretty addictive bikes. One thing to mention is that your height has nothing to do with seat height...your inside leg measurement does. Your inseam, at 32" is average for the UK. If you were short you might have a 30" inseam which would make the bike seem a stretch.

not sure if 32" is average but you are right that leg length is key - i am 5' 10" with a 29" leg so either the M. Flyer has spider legs or mine are stumps !!

Had mine two months love the engine but I've really struggled with the indicators not being self cancelling. I've had issues pushing the button in to cancel them with gloves on and worse still not realising they were still on after a junction. Otherwise its brilliant going to fit a buzzer on the indicators. Had to lower the suspension as I'm only a 28" inside leg!

Long stalk mirrors are always bad. Like simple instruments, never look at them anyway. Sidestand, wee bit lube? Cables can be rerouted to suit. As long as switches work what else matters? Fair comments. As long as there's nothing major live with it. Great looking bike and absolute bargain. PROPER!😊

I bought a royal Enfield after watching some of your videos as they seem good value. My rear shock failed after 2 weeks. It wouldn’t start after it came back. They had to rebuild the head. Then I had ignition issues. That required more work. Then the throttle jammed on the motorway. I’ve had the bike a year and rode it for maybe a few weeks. I still love the look of it. But my dealer stepped in and I’ve got money back and going for an Indian this time. I’m really concerned over their quality control. 😢

@@toqtoq3361 yeah same kind of thing happened for a good friend. His valves went and it took ages to go through repairs and he had to fight for everything. Another chap I work with loves his Enfield and it’s been nothing but issues. Ignition failures. Head rebuilt. Shock failed. They also burn a lot of oil too. Need to keep some on hand and check regularly or you could end up with seizures.

My husbands royal Enfield had a complete engine failure on a trip with his friends. He managed to get home on the back of another bike and had to get the bike rescued. His dealer was terrible and blamed him for not checking the oil levels ‘regularly’. Even though the bike had done basically only 1000 miles. in the end they helped him get the engine replaced but he has sold the bike as it failed to start on random occasions. Some known issues with ignition. he moved on and bought a Harley and it’s been great for him. He says royal Enfield are like really early 1980s Ducati for reliability. I understand people love retro bikes but is it not better having modern reliability with them as well ?

Nice review. I'm surprised you did comment on the off set instrument cluster. That would annoy me. The reason for the missing Tripper? - reduced cost. As the Tripper is a Beeline by a different name this could be easily solved.

You've been spoiled by modern clutches - after a bit of rain on my Norton Atlas the clutch cable would become so reluctant to pull that I would need two hands to operate it 🤣 Interestingly on the Classic 350 RE now recommend that the clutch cable is NOT fed through that loop on the front down tube, especially if you have engine bars fitted. Guess it makes the pull a bit less restricted.

One of the things you used to do with reviews was to put something in about the cost of ownership - not so much insurance as that varies tremendously from person to person, running costs, servicing costs, service intervals etc. Useful info for prospective owners. Any chance to include that again?
