My dad rode bikes. The first one I knew was an A.J.S. 350. He rode it to work every day; about 20 miles each way. Then later, he went up to a Norton Dominator 500. Lovely bike! But the clutch was too heavy. The sound of that will stay with me forever - gorgeous!

Congrats Mark! Can't comment on the European market but Hunter is going to be the best seller for RE. In Indian market where people are used to 125-150cc bikes, 350 RE Classic/Meteor are considered heavy bikes (may sound funny to most people here). Indians love RE but many people are hesitant to buy "heavy" bikes - given Hunter looks smaller/lighter, it is already pushing RE sales numbers to the next orbit.

So the 650 models are not so popular in India, or do I see that wrong. They sold well here in Belgium, but than the Meteor came and that went of. Later the classic did the same, so I think the Hunter is going to do the same, they are here this week.
@MrPrash12342 жыл бұрын
@@Jay_Speed The market for 650 cc is very small here. Our economic reality is different. Most of the 2 wheelers sold here are 125-150cc which are very fuel efficient and cost around 1000-1500 USD. 350cc bikes are on the expensive side (around 2500$) but RE has a cult following so they sell in good numbers. 650cc motorcycles are expensive (starting 4200$) and not that fuel efficient. So you start with a small scooter/motorcycle. When you have more money, you buy a small car and upgrade your scooter to a RE 350/411. When you have more money, you get a bigger car :). Bigger bikes haven't caught the imagination of people yet.
@thelayoffm9652 жыл бұрын
@@Jay_Speed You'd be correct. Apart from the upfront cost, India has quite a higher (comparatively) fuel pricing so bikes with lower mileage isn't preferred by most. Add to it the fact that we got rather bad roads at places and huge traffic and speed limits in Urban areas, we can't use the full available power of a 350 most of the time, let alone a 650.

Whilst I respect the opinion of the reviewer. Having owned the classic I found it to be underpowered. Hit a headwind and the slightest incline you will struggle to mantian 50mph. With traffic nearly into your numplate. I bought the Honda. It will accelerate up hills. Return virtually the same on fuel etc. And unlike my enfield not knock and rattle and developed faults perhaps this the soul part of the bike 😊😊

Another great review Mark ☺️, hope you're pleased with your purchase. I'll be interested in viewing your longer term review of it when you've got the miles on it too see if you encounter any problems,or niggles with it. It is a bike I am considering for next year,the only thing I can't quite get my head round,is my honda cb250rs I owned in my youth was 26bhp and had a dry weight of 136kg,top speed indicated 90mph,and that was adequate. Just a pity they felt the need to restrict it too 20bhp, when a 350 should have at least 35bhp, but I spose it was done for reliability and longer service intervals.

Torque is real, while power is just a derived value.
@andersbarfodsvaneskolan93782 жыл бұрын
Engine type ,, not displacement determines max power output (hp).. For a 350cc single to have more than 35hp you need it to have a short stroke, water cooled, and high compression.. The Zontes GK350 is such a bike.. 350cc single with bore/stroke ratio of 1.36 and water cooling.. This engine pushes out 38hp at 9500rpm.. though 20.2hp from 350cc eventhough it is long stroked (bore/stroke ration = 0.84),, and air-cooled seem low.. 15% more power at 23.2hp would seem feasible without loosing low end. (a camshaft change can give you these results),,

I also had a cb250rs and agree with you, it was a great bike. I suppose the reason modern bikes are generally heavier , and sometimes less powerful is euro 5. The cb250rs had no weighty electric starter, so probably had a lighter battery too, but consumers now seem to demand electric start. It didn't carry the weight of a catalytic converter or ABS and crucially didn't have to run so lean to meet emission regulations, nor were noise rules so strict. Given the restrictions I would say RE have done well to produce an air cooled engine that develops 75% of its max power at 4000 rpm which must make it very pleasant to ride.
@Ijusthopeitsquick Жыл бұрын
@@baleshwarnathsharma Torque and power are both real measurements, but only power is relevant to the performance of a vehicle, since acceleration and speed are determined by power, not torque. Torque is a measure of rotational force, but such a force is meaningless until it is converted to linear motion, which is why a pair of human legs can exert 250 NM of torque to the pedals of a bicycle (more than most diesel engines) but struggle to propel that bicycle at more than 20 mph.

Hunter 350 was an unexpected turn of events in my life but my jolly was it a fun one. Been like a week now. Crazing over speed to development to just what I would actually need my own bike for life for and instigating the decisions despite being the younger audience of the spectrum, I realised I don't need no speed demon, I just got post college and I'm a short guy pretty much, in the long term I decided this would be best for me. I would have gone for the cb 350 in the segment, but I'm broke too.. Happy so far, just a few days until my first service, that should help me start putting miles on it. Got to accesories and tour

You seemed to be quite happy at about 50-55MPH in 5th (seemed quite reasonable to me ) even though above the RE recommended figures for initial run in. I think as long as you don’t rev the nuts off it and you don’t let the engine labour all should be fine. I have a Dapper Grey on order and that’s going to be my strategy. Thanks Richard...I'm really enjoying my hunter 😊

I'm still torn between this and the cb300r. I want a small light bike and I'm leaning towards the 300 atm. I prefer the hunter in probably more ways but I'm worried I'll miss that extra bit of poke. If the hunter went as quick as my old ninja 250 it would be my ideal bike but the thought of doing 50 up 60mph hills niggles at that slightly ocd part of me. Regardless of what driving instructors used to tell me, the speed limit is a target not just a limit 😃

I need to decide soon. Been wanting a new bike since before Xmas. I'm so indecisive that I'll end up missing another summers riding 😃 I eliminated the meteor because I have a bad back and the "comfy" riding position might put more strain on the part of my back that troubles me. Definitely got it down to the cb300r and the hunter. The hunter seems ideal in many ways but I live in the peak district and I'm just worrying that the hunter won't go up the hills quick enough for me. I know they are torquey but I imagine you can ring the Honda's neck up hill and get up a lot easier.

what do old folks say? if in doubt, just get a Honda. 😂

Hi mark I had a test ride on the meteor a few weeks before they launched the hunter, I loved the meteor but after your review I might have to check out this hunter before parting with my money.

Hey Mark, congratulation on the new bike. Looks great. Royal Enfiled sells bench-style seats for the hunter. It could be a good upgrade for taller riders. I think it's slightly taller, but I couldn't find any details to be sure. But definitely, you can alter your seating position more and, therefore, your leg's position too

When you sat on the bike to show the seat height, you looked amazing with your black dressup on this black/red RE. Absolutely muscular feel. It reminded me of Tom cruise in MI-2.👍🏻 great choise.

Still wanting enfield to release a bigger single as a himalaya replacement... a 450/500 based on this engine in a very mildly strengthened hunter chassis that will pull 90 and comfortably carry 2 up at 70 and they could have my money... I'd love a hunter but for what I want I'd have the new bsa... I really can't get on with the enfield twins if anyone is about to comment.....

A very informative and intelligent assessment of this machine. From what I have seen on YT, the RE's we get in the UK seem to be "de luxe" models. The wiring on the Indian versions looks like a rats nest, for example. However, the Indian models are I believe, cheaper to buy so the export versions must be rather expensive in India but well priced in the UK. Although many people carp on about the BHP of the Re 350's, the output of the engines of the G3 models in the UK in the early 1960's was 20BHP and the top speed 70mph or 80 on a good day! It has been claimed that the reborn RE 350's have a rev limiter built into the ECU and 5th gear is an Overdrive. A very interesting machine.

Great looking bike, definitely prefer the round headlight classic look compared to the modern transformer bug appearance headlights, like on the mt Yamaha.

Came across this by accident. I was going to replace by beloved Triumph 955I.On a 2005 one off the very last for something new. My wife is a 60 year old biker Just relinquished her 4004 and wants something lighter. I’m saving money and getting one of these to share and upgrading my Triumph 🛶🏴

Thank you for a cracking review of your new motorcycle. RE are really do keep raising the bar, just when I'm ready to pull the trigger on one model out comes another. Decisions decisions, However I do know that I will buy a RE as a second bike this year and your concise well-presented reviews help me a lot. Keep up the good work and enjoy you new bike

Have you sold the 390 to get this, Mark? Good idea changing the oil at 3,000 miles. I do on my 390. Nice dash on the Hunter. The spread of torque attracts me to the bike. It would be perfect for Chiang Rai's 'city' streets and the surrounding back roads. The local Triumph dealer has stopped selling REs, though, but I don't think I'd get rid of my KTM for one, even if there was a dealer. Or would I? The usual really thorough review. I'm glad you've retained the same format for your videos. Too many KZbin channels are happy to simply read from spec sheets. Ironically, they are always oversubscribed.

Hi nik sadly yes....the ,duke is amazing but I've always wanted one of these royal Enfields and I haven't quite got the room in my garage for the other bikes that I sometimes get on long tem demo loan....so yes I decided to let the duke go ...but would definitely consider one again in the future Cheers mark

@@markpulling12 I can understand it. Just been out on the 390 for a 60km backlane ride. The low-down jerkiness of the throttle is begining to irritate me. I'll be intersted to see how you get on with the Hunter.

Another big hit for RE. Pleased to see they have dropped the tripper but I would like to see a tacho on it. I am so used to the riding position on my Meteor that don't think I would like the Hunter, anyway you are going to enjoy for sure Mark.

Hi Mark , awhile back I had asked you about how you liked your Hunter 350 , after your 1000 mile review video. I'm happy to let you know that today I purchased one, actually its the same color as yours, i'll be picking it up next week . I have other bikes like you do ,actually 7 of them , but i'm excited about it . L think its their best bike as you do. If its ok Id like to keep in touch with you , on your experiences. I am also definitely interested in the bar end mirrors you installed on yours. I enjoy all pf your reviews especially on the Moto Guzzi V7, I own a 2021 V7 Special and a 2023 V7 Stone Special Edition. Please keep doing you reviews Mark , they are excellent. Thedy also factored in my decisions to buy the Guzzi and the Royal Enfield , Thanks Again ,Mark, Ernie
