I think you’re right. I think his heart was unperturbed, both due to out of this world physical conditioning conditioning and a sort of Zen approach to his fights. It’s too bad there is so little information about him. He was definitely ahead of his time in skills, original style and attitude towards boxing. It’s not clear if he had a trainer or someone that guided him or if he was one of those rare humans that teaches himself; an autodidact for boxing. He would have had to be very bright. I think his goal after boxing was to study medicine. I have no doubt he could have achieved his goal. He was a tremendous loss at such a young age, not just for the boxing world, but what he could have contributed after his boxing career.

Gomez was a knockout machine and Sanchez was able to handle him, at 23 no less. The boxing world was robbed of a prodigy when he passed.
@richardlefaive19446 ай бұрын
There is an argument that Sanchez is not only the greatest Mexican fighter ever, but the best P4P boxer of all time period. People forget that, in addition to taking out Gomez, he stopped and young + up and comjng Azumah Nelson too. Who then wwnt on to dominate the division for a.decade after Sanchez passed. When one considers how young he was when died ... you have to step back and wonder at just how long amd fruitful a career Sanchez might have had. There would unquestionably have been massive payday super bouts with Duran and Arguello down the road for him had he not passed prematurely. A true shame.

It’s fascinating rewatching this after so many years (and with the always interesting breakdown by DC on top of that). It’s strange how my memory of this classic was basically a one sided domination by Sanchez. And I would’ve guessed it ended by rd 4 or 5. After watching this video about 40 years later I’m surprised and impressed with Gomez’s ability to trap SS on the ropes and in the corner. WG landed quite a bit more than I remembered. That straight right/Left hook actually appeared to buckle the knees of SS. I would’ve given WG the slight edge in punching power (could be wrong as WG was moving up in weight here) so it’s surprising to see how early WG eyes began to swell from SS punches. Whereas SS seemed to barely have a mark on his face. I guess as David pointed out that’s the difference between SS ability to roll with the punches VS WG apparent inability to. I even saw a few times where WG actually walked into SS counters. That’ll definitely cause swelling 😂 against a precision striker like SS was. That lightening quick counter from SS in rd 1 that dropped an off balance WG was about as quick, slick and accurate of a punch as there can ever be. I bet at that instant Gomez knew without a doubt that he was in the ring with an opponent unlike any he’d faced before. That had to be shocking and disheartening for WG, but he remained 100% focused. Too bad for him that his eyes only stayed about 50% open 🤣 Would’ve loved to have seen a rematch a year or two later. Such a sad tragedy about Sanchez.

The best of best of the best Sir…with honors! SALVADOR SANCHEZ!

I watched a lot of Sanchez's fights back in the day. And to tell you the truth I don't even remember him even getting hurt or wobbled in a fight. He was just always exciting to watch and one of the best fighters I've ever seen. Couldn't believe it when the world lost him. He was so young. At twentythree I can remember just how much fun your life was. Wish he could have had a nice long life.
