THE MERCANTILE, Directed by Brian Bolster
Nestled in a remote mountain valley and at the foot door of Montana's Glacier National Park, the historic Polebridge Mercantile dutifully endures as one of the last outposts of its kind in the American West. THE MERCANTILE steps into the working lives of Flannery Coats and Stuart Reiswig, the young couple whose search for the ideal marriage location yielded them the most unforeseen and rewarding challenges of their lives-proprietorship and preservation of a century-old, unchanged business enterprise in a modern and ever-changing world.
About the Filmmaker -
Brian Bolster grew up in Boston, MA and graduated from the film program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. His short documentary films have screened at Slamdance Film Festival, DOC NYC, Florida Film Festival, Camden International Film Festival and BendFilm Festival among others. Brian also holds an M.A. in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, and has worked in several public and private schools in New York City area. In 2013, Brian founded his own production company, Exit 36 Productions, LLC. He currently lives in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City and has two new documentary projects in production.

Early August this year I visited. Our backpacking trip to Glacier National Park and visiting The Mercantile on our return, staying a night, that's something I won't ever forget.

I was there the last week of May 2023 and it still wonderful to get there and ask for a Huckleberry bear claw and a cup of coffee. It is a wonderful place to visit. Good on you!!

We had a delicious breakfast calzone there in September 2018. What an incredible place that truly is an outpost. The lady that ran the lodge at the West glacier raft company recommended it to us. She guaranteed us to see some wildlife on the drive to Polebridge, and she didn’t disappoint. It’s not uncommon to see moose and deer on the 30 minute drive from West Glacier. What a wonderful step back in time. Also see the owner at Glacier highlands in West Glacier. They have amazing pie, great prices on wine, and amazing food.

We were there about the time that you purchased the mercantile in 2013. We loved the pastries. the people, and of course the scenery ..We plan on going back, hopefully very soon! God bless..

So many great memories. We rented a cabin a few miles away. It was one of the best trips ever. I still crave the huckleberry macaroons. The best cookie ever!!

Went there in 2015 and although the road was brutal on this day, the bear claws and peace by the river were magical...

Oh, my heart! I visited polebridge in summer 2001. I'll never forget it! Is the Northern Lights Cafe still there? We exited that bar on the evening of my learning my dog passed away at my home in nj and were greeted with northern lights and local dogs of polebridge playing around us. A magical place I'd like to return to. We stayed at a hostel in polebridge.
