Thank you for posting this!! Me and my brother ride a 78 and 80 Red Rocket. Riding them really makes you appreciate modern bikes but they are fun. Great to just look at! Keep up he good work!

I am very familiar; owned & raced this bike in 77/78. Best finish 3rd in Amateur National. But, reportedly, the first 100 (mine was #50) in the country had a factory tweaked motor. I pulled the holeshot on a Puch GP 250 that dyno*d @ 44HP. It was competitive against the other folks in the local Open Pro class. Best accessories for this bike was Fox shocks & Gunnar Gasser throttle; mine had both plus a few more tweaks. My current Vintage ride is a 79, great bike also.

I had 75, 76 and 79 250's and the 76 was actually a well balanced package with a set of Luft shocks and a Terry kit in the fork........but the 78 and 79 was just SO cool! I felt like I was on Team Honda with my Fox Shox and Simons. It WAS the trickest looking bike out and the motor was awesome but I felt it actually had too much travel to turn as well as the earlier bikes. Having a Husky 390 I had a special HATE for the left side kick/right side drive as well.

Radical scary fast bikes..broke my back on one ..I had a 79 it was a monster..I hit a hill in fourth gear , I flew like a plane, with a crash, landing!..miss it though, it would leave you shaking when you rode it, fast fast

I saw this bike body slam my cousin once, he was a good rider too, he was going around a curve shifted to 3rd and it came on all at once like a shotgun and slammed him good to the hosp he went lol they were unpredictable they would come on at diff rpms some times so u never know when its comming lol

The full-floating rear brake not only isolated the rear suspension, but was pro-squat at the rear under braking which would still be desirable. Makes no sense to me why it is not used as reducing forward chassis pitch under braking will ALWAYS be a good thing.

Honda should have done a tribute bike in all red in 2003 to give some honor to the 78 bikes. The red rocket was a hot looking bike for sure.

What Japanese brand would you consider as being most tech dominant in motocross over the decades?
@TheMotocrossVault5 жыл бұрын
halfasheep wow-that is an interesting question. I don’t think there can be any one answer to that. Over the last 50 years all the big four have had their turns pushing development forward. If I had to pick one I would say Yamaha, but I truly think they have each made major tech contributions at different times
