I rebuilt the clutch master and slave cylinders on my 84 V65 Magna and chased bubbles for hours but couldn't get the air out of the system. I was thinking of a way i could add a bleeder just below the master cylinder. I decided to check out youtube and found the video you did on rebuilding the master and slave cylinders where you pinched the hose just below the master as you bleed the system. Within 5 minutes the air was gone and worked great . Thank you

Excellent as always. I have never replaced a clutch on my bike or past cars. . .always been a mystery. I guess I need to read about how they function, that might give me a clue. My 84 Magna is still going strong especially after replacing the slave cylinder seals thanks to YOU of course. Take care and ride safe.

Congrats on reaching 10K Subs Cody! You've certainly earned every one of them. FYI...Just picked up a SWEET 1975 GL1000, runs and rides...needs tweaking here and there, but I'll get Willie (It's name) up and ready for this riding season. I'll shoot you an email with pics. This now gives me a complete 1975 for parts (32,000 miles) for the newest GL1000 (43,000 miles). This one was a Barn Find and had not been registered for 22 years. Went over everything, had #2 with stuck rings...a little magic snake oil of my own and the rings freed up and brought all 4 cylinders up to 130+ psi and all are within 5psi of one another. Everything works as it should and it presents fairly well considering how long it's been sitting. I'll ask you a Q in the email. Cheers Cody and again, congrats on 10K Subs!! Zip~

Hey Cody, I love your videos, I've really learned a lot. You mentioned it briefly, but when using a caliper, you get a more accurate reading if you do the measurement closer to the caliper. The further towards the tip you measure, the more you can tilt the arms when you apply pressure, and get a slightly inaccurate reading. Edit: Hope your date went well!

I just got a new clutch cable and with new Michelin Road 5 tires and a DID chain I think my bike with feel band new again. Its been running good but I feel like its lost some power. Hoping new clutch will help, if not it looks like a nice task to work on the motorbike. Nice video.

Hi sir, I have a VTR 1000F FIRESTORM and if I try to pull off at 2000-3500 rpm the clutch slips then grabs then slips then grabs and sends the front wheel skywards, I have read the VTR clutch is a little grabby or problematic but I would like to know from your experience what in your opinion is happening. I have only owned the bike for 2 months so to me it was always like this. I recently saw a video of yours where you serviced a VT 1100 chopper and I will follow your maintenance vid and clean up the piston and steel pushrod assembly and of course bleed the hydraulics, i will also give you feedback and let you know how i get on. Thank you.

put a new clutch cable on my 600RR thinking the cable was stretched cause i was starting to notice slack in the cable and adjusting wouldn't help. I put the new cable on and it didn't help the problem. someone told me maybe my clutch is worn out but I haven't noticed any clutch slippage. after looking at illustrations I'm wondering if maybe the bearing for the clutch pull pin is worn out...

Mr. Cody can you please.elaborate on the cb 919, cbr 900rr, 929, and 954. Problem is the 2nd gear issue I have heard that some bikes have an inherent problem with the gearbox not shifting into 2nd or banging etc. Could you please explain what you have found to be the problem. I trust you and do not trust anyone else to cover this issue. I'm in the market for a used machine. A Honda of course.. a 919 or 90 thru 98 vfr gear drive cams only of course. Thanks John C.

I'm having a dragging problem every now & again on my clutch. & I can't find Neutral, then the other day It randomly acted like a weak battery (unable to turn engine over) but later it fired up no issues, do you think all these are connected? I'm guessing clutch plates have made grooves in the basket & need filing? any ideas? especially the on the going into neutral bit as ive had this issue on many bikes.

I have a 97 honda rebel cmx 250c motorcycle and I have new clutch cable and everything except the basket that has gears on the back but I can't find a original one anywhere and the wire nut for clutch is junk I've tried to find one like you have just a 1/2 inch longer. But I am also having issues were to put clutch cable so when I adjust it. But I thought I had it but it is trying to take off with clutch ingaged . I pray that you can give me the answer's and I can finally ride it ughh

Thanks so much for your clutch video I’m ready to replace the clutch on my1974 MT-125 , How long do you soak the new Disk in oil prior to installing?
@TheMotorcycleMD4 жыл бұрын
There isn’t really a specific timer. I usually set them in a dish of oil glob them around to coat everything, then begin the job. By the time you are ready to start loading the clutch hub they should be fine!
@oivindalvestad71304 жыл бұрын
Saw a video by some other dude where he said to soak them overnight, so that the oil seeps into the cork. That was for cork friction plates, don't know if there are other variants, that don't require as much time.

My 2009 kawasa versys KLE 650, sometimes, when I shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear, I feel and hear the sound "tach, tach" down at the shift lever before the shift settles in 2nd gear. And that sound is becoming more often. Does that mean the gear or the clutch is wearing out and needed to be replaced? Do we have to replace the whole gear system? Thank you.

Recently with my 92 nighthawk I started to use normal motor oil cause I'm a cheapo and it started redlining at 80mph and I'd loose any power so I wouldn't try to raise rpm/throttle (I have no tach) so I do a half-ass oil change with proper oil without changing filter then it starts redlining at 95mph then I did a real oil change , filter and all and now it won't go past about 100 and before it felt like I'd have to try not to be in the triples. Just got a whole clutch from a donor bike with 15k miles I think....better than my 84k one...hope it fixes my issues

Shit... so if i have my bike on a jack with the rear tire floating and i start it up and put it in 1st and hold in the cluth yet the wheels still slightly spins it could be my clutch? I'm a beginner and my fear of cracking open the clutch isn't as bad after watching that video. You did that so quickly. What would a shop charge to replace those parts? Of course the one piece you didn't buy was the worst of them all. "I'm just gonna go with it, man. I have to. This is my ride home." Sometimes you just gotta make due. Any tips on keeping the clutch healthy for as long as possible? I feel like my shifting and clutch work are pretty good, but I could be doing something wrong and not realize it.

why didn't you replace you whole clutch assembly? My dealer changes my clutch assembly on my 2013 daytona 675 every time the clutch wears out. When I ask them why dont they just replace the springs and plates, they say, its similar to the chain and sprocket and you should replace both as a set regardless of which one wears out.

To free up that side seal without breaking it, you HAVE to deadblow HAMMER the bolt hole areas, out towards the next bolthole, or in a star pattern. vibration knocks gaskets loose while keeping them intact, prying with a screwdriver, rips the gasket. cuz the vibration disturbs the oil in a way where it soaks into the gasket in ways it doesnt naturally, bolted IN. Thus, the gasket sticks to one side. usually the engine side, since its hotter than the cover side. cheers. Do some scooter tech tips. those fucking guys need it.

I would never use a screwdriver as a drift, to remove a cover its a very bad idea. Rubber mallet and patience, even if it takes an hour to remove the case thne its better then damaging the case.. its very very easy to damage the mating surfaces. If you need to use a drift and only the very worst seized cases then I would use an hardwood length (Oak or mahogany) on web or simaler to knock it off. I Dont use a power impact driver either, your denying yourself information, for the sake of a few seconds work. If a thread is bad you wont know.

Don't honda just put there sticker on parts . I don't think honda make there own parts at all, I only know car parts are the worse ..say a vw wheel bearing 100 quid a pair , identical set 20 quid elsewhere. Anyway thankyou for informative post. On my honda I am using 30 quid brake discs ,no problems at all ,honda 140 quid !
