Kopecky's instant reaction right after the race: (translated from Dutch) "What a losers. They're all looking at me to close then gap and I was the goddamn lead in the beginning to close up to the five. ... I saw her go: I knew it instantly ... I knew too if I went in then Persico overtakes me. How's that even possible...with a broken elbow...damn."

The U23 category is just a mess. If U23 exists (which is a question in itself, and I mean for the men too) then it has to be a separate race. If the race exists and the winner is riding in the pro peloton then they at least need to be able to show it on a sleeve or something? There is the question of how valid the U23 category is as a whole, much like the white jersey in the TDF, when the overall winner has been getting younger in recent years. Maybe it’s time to just have the junior category and the seniors (for both men and women)?

Why can’t the UCI have a special jersey for U23 male or female something akin to the European Jersey that will be worn in the Peloton. Something that respects the achievement.

Why do you doubt that ? In 2020 , when Van der Breggen won the jersey,she fell during the road race , came back did a break away and ended 7th ...with a broken knee cap from the crash ! In 2020 , she had broken her wrist a week earlier in giro rosa and became 2nd at the worlds (again behind Van der Breggen ..). Hard as nails , as they say.

Can never discount a rider of AvV's caliber even with a broken elbow. She is too driven, too smart, too powerful. She can read a race better than any other pro cyclist - male or female. Awesome to wear the rainbow in her last season next year.
