Personally I think Rick's answer to Michael bringing up the big issue with AI's tendency to hallucinate, as "creative" responses was inexcusable. People don't want "creative" responses from f'in google searches, they want the exact results for their query. And until the hallucination problem is fixed, any results produced via Gemini or any other AI process just can't be trusted, making a large part of the functionality unusable.

@ItsMalikPrince Ай бұрын
sure, that's a very simple "KZbin commenter" way to think about it. In the corporate world however his answer is great! As a boss you don't want to speak on behalf of your team on unannounced products. They are the ones that should be in charge of building the product, the product truth, and its story. The worst thing you can do is have a high-level boss go out and make commitments or statements that you then have to commit too. He's not working on the product day to day and as such he shouldn't comment.
@jlr_

AI is just a bunch of stats and linear algebra based algorithms trained on some data, and even the best kind of AI is prone to mistakes. So this can't really be avoided. What is happening at the moment is that the entire Silicon Valley is basically trying to rush and make profit of the recent AI boom as much as possible, to basically get into the race, so it's more of a business decision to keep the users on the products that they are using and prevent them from shifting.

It seems a little redundant now but if there's five or six versions of this fold it would be easier to lose track For instance I could not tell you if the z-fold 4 was out with the s22 ultra or the s21 ultra. @nickthaskater
@nickthaskater Ай бұрын
Unfortunately (fortunately?) the camera *is* "actually good" and is generally on par with the output of other flagship phone cameras. At this point, the physical limitations of phones have resulted in most of the differences between devices being on the post-processing side rather than a pure result of differing hardware. At the end of the day if you want great *photos* you should buy a standalone camera. Even a 10-year-old 16MP APS-C camera produces higher fidelity files than today's best flagship phone camera. There is no way to compensate for sensor size in a body as thin as a phone - software and "AI" only go so far.
@Jack655321
@Jack655321 Ай бұрын
The “we had to keep the body thin” is not a good excuse anyway, they could just make the camera bump a little thicker and still have enough room for a better camera. I see you using your fold for talking notes. I'd love a video rundown on your day-to-day fold workflow. We get a some insight in a few of your reviews, but I'd love a deep dive into Evernote on fold, editing, and daily life use cases beyond fun photography. For me, that would help me visualize the difference between a foldable being a cute novelty with some minor usefulness at a huge markup, vs. a meaningful computer in my pocket.

I have a Samsung fold and there is definitely an "ideal" user. If you don't fall into that it's more of a gimmick but if you're in that sweet spot, there's nothing better. It's fantastic for watching videos on. I use it a lot for note taking and sketching. It's great for reading (though i prefer a kindle). It's also perfect for multitasking since you can have several windows open at once on a large screen. I also really like that it's easy to prop up and walk away for taking photos & video. I can't go back now but if you don't do any of those things it might not be worth it since they are still very expensive.

Would have been a cool opportunity for Google to support USI stylus on some of these devices. But probably a pipe dream. But with the tablet supporting it I thought maybe at least the foldable might get it but then you'd have to think about finding a case for it and the added expense and the digitizer and the thickness.

That’s not even bringing up the fact that the OnePlus comes with a charger, charges faster, has higher quality cameras, higher resolution inner display, 4gb more memory, more storage default, a much less noticeable crease on the inner display, and (from what we can tell so far) benchmarks faster than the G4 that google JUST released

Focus should be on "large screen" apps rather than "landscape orientation tablet" apps. Focusing on viewport size regardless of orientation makes development simpler, UX better and paves the way for a more robust Android desktop mode a la DeX with optimized app UI. Google's shift on unfolded default orientation from landscape to portrait should trigger this. Unfolding any foldable should greet you with the large screen app UI (e.g. dual pane Gmail) without needing to roate to landscape orientation.

The MS Recall-like feature is only an example.

Done with google I purchased the gold when it came out. Design issue had the internal screen fail days after purchase Took almost 9 months to get a repair that took an age. And the phone came back more broken than it went in. And a botched repair isn’t warranty I was forced to purchase another phone weeks after purchase I was fully expecting a first gen phone to have problems. But to spend hundreds of hours trying to get it fixed 😢 left me shocked. Having to deal with call centre staff that really don’t care about customers or the customer experience is absurd. The phone when I was using it was a super buggy experience I spent a lot of time living in china. The phones I had many years ago were much better build quality. Much cheaper. Supported by the sellers Now we have people promoting devices they don’t even use and a system so broken as to be criminal

Hot take 🔥🔥: Foldables will sadly never get (significantly) cheaper. People have been complaining about the prices of premium phones for ages not only with foldables and yet the prices are only going up never down. One day there will be midrange spec foldables for under $1000 but flagship folds will slowly creep up to $2000+.

One thing to consider about Google moving the Fold to a different aspect ratio is the front screen being the same as the Pixel 9 pro. It means they can get better bulk pricing, and that means better profits on both phones. It may not be much per phone, but millions of $ when all units are combined
