Samsung and Google's folds, ironically enough, are both arguably small phones. Yeah, the "point" of a fold is the large screen, and fair enough, that's what I use like 70% of the time. But the 6.2 inch diagonal size of my Z Fold is misleading, it's super narrow and excellent for one-handed use - the only phone I've ever comfortably been able to do swipe typing on, and it rests comfortably in my hand. The Pixel Fold's cover display, on the other hand, is basically like the iPhone Mini. Not a fan of the trend that folds are getting bigger in general, and I hope Samsung doesn't follow suit.

Don't credit Motorola with the Pink Razr. The idea was that Razr was the "male" phone. Pebl was the "female" one, so the idea of a pink Razr went against the grain, but Charles Dunstone of Carphone Warehouse ordered 250,000 Razrs in pink. I was at Motorola, we thought he was mad, and when he asked for an exclusive on pink we gave it to him. Bear in mind that the forecast for global Razr sales was 800,000 units - well that's what the team told the portfolio committee. I later learned that they thought it would sell 300,000. Carphone went on to sell 3 million pink Razrs ane we bought the rights to pink back from Carphone.

I've loved my 2023 razr + (favorite phone ever) but I too got the interior screen crack after about 7 months. Moto fixed it for me with little hassle (other than initially arguing with call center people to get it fixed), but it was annoying. The new screen protector was the same as the new model btw - not having the stupid annoying cutout for the camera which just gathered grime and caught on things. Here's hoping the new hinge does indeed fix it. If so, the Razr+ 2024 with the bigger exterior screen will probably be the perfect phone. There's *just* enough times where I wish I had a bit more screen space when using the exterior one on my 23 version. The loss of ultra wide is kinda significant tho as I'm constantly having to back up with this camera as is.
@sparky67575 ай бұрын
While I would never buy a flip, I'm starting to get it. I've had a fold for nearly a year now, and I initially bought it because I wanted to fit as big of a screen in my pocket as possible - but I've come to love the narrow cover display as well. It's far easier to type with one hand than it ever was on a traditional phone. Right now I'm watering plants work one hand and typing a comment with the other, and that's something I never could have comfortably done on a slab. Having a display that's about ~2/3 the size of a typical modern phone, and also a display that's about 60% larger, it's a much better two in one combo than just "big screen, now give me $1800". While an even smaller screen than that doesn't interest me personally, I can understand the appeal now. Flips without a ~3 inch cover display still don't make any sense to me.

I owned a Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 4, and I enjoyed my time with them immensely. However a single drop onto carpet broke the Z Flip 4 hinge and I moved to a Pixel 8 due to availability and very aggressive pricing. And honestly, I have not looked back at the world of foldables. As fun as the folding experience was, there's no denying it was compromised and returning to a stress free phone that I can just chuck around has been liberating. Looking back at a phone with a crease is now an eyesore, even though it never bothered me while I was using it. The jump in outdoor screen brightness and camera quality was also very noticeable.
@TheMrMobile5 ай бұрын
Yeah, they're certainly not for everyone. That said, I'm the opposite: I moved to foldables full-time starting in 2020 and haven't looked back. Every time I pick up a slab phone I'm immediately unfulfilled by either the limited screen real estate (compared to large-format foldables) or the pocket penalty (compared to flips). And while I agree about the fragility in general ... I toss around all my foldables without a case, and the majority of them have held up just fine. Ultimately, just glad there are options on the market for each of us! Choice is good.

There's a potent irony in seeing so much lavish design going into the music player UI on these when I just bought a DAP to load all my music onto. Still, I was originally gonna get a Razr Plus 2023 on discount/refurb, but the "Minus" has far less compromises than I expected, so I might go for that instead. My only gripe is that I wish there was just one more colorway for the Minus, be it either the Magenta or Glacier from the Plus 2023 or something else. The one I'm considering the most is the koala grey for the texturing. All the different material types makes me wish they would go back and do bamboo backing again like the Moto X Gen 2

Honestly I appreciate the 2x telephoto over an ultrawide. I currently have a Pixel 7Pro, and I find myself very often wanting to punch into 2x to better frame shots indoors or in close proximity, or zooming in to catch something small or in the distance I can't approach, but the ultrawide is such a drop off in quality compared to the other cameras, and the added distortion means that I would almost always rather take a few steps back to use the wide angle. I do find myself really missing my iphone Xs old 2x camera, I think we think too much in zoom, and not enough in terms of focal length, and the 2-3x lenses typically produce much more pleasing portraits than cropping the main camera, regardless of any post effect blur being applied.
@ithinkabout43695 ай бұрын
As a Razr 40 Ultra owner, I love the new 2x telephoto...the ultrawide in my phone is just so much worse than the normal wide angle lense, and the difference in scope is much smaller than it was with my previous Galaxy Z Flip3. The ultrawide is almost useless IMO. I agree 2x is not that much, but I use 2x zoom a lot, so for me it would be a great improvement. Maybe with the next generation they could do 5x, at least that would be my hope.

What are your thoughts on the power button placement? I'm on the 2023 Razr+ and I've never had more "pocket dials" and other apps opening that I don't want. I came over from Pixel 5a so naturally, I've been unsurprisingly unimpressed with my Razr+'s camera and other hardware. BUT, that said, more than I care to count: my phone has fallen from my bike's top-tube bag on singletrack and even on paved rail-trails (my fault for not securing the bag) and the phone survived mostly unscathed. I don't have a case for it (didn't like any of the ones I tried) and the only scratch is on the outside screen and I can't recall how that happened. Now, on rides when I need a fast camera with excellent pictures, I bring my 5a along for the ride...which is why I got the RAZR+: for the smaller footprint...now, I'm bringing two phones.

I love the idea of a flip smartphone like this but and I’m sure I’m in the minority but I would prefer it without the cover screen. To me the whole point would be to rock a touchscreen smartphone that folds nicely into my pocket but without the need to a protection or case. The outside plastic when closed would be enough for me to keep it safe like an old school razor, with no need for a case. With this large outer screen, I now have something else to cover and protect.

I've never commented on a review video before, from anyone, but damn, Mr. Fisher's review videos are always hands down the best produced, well thought out videos I've ever seen. I watch all the big KZbin tech reviewers and Mr Mobile is absolutely the very best. Bravo dude!

14:44 That complete full display on the cover screen is a bold step from Motorola but it is the right decision. The full display must be captivating (I suppose in personal experience) whenever you make a quick glance at it. The bigger display must be providing extra flexibility when navigating the screen. From my position the display is gorgeous each time I watch every review of the Motorola Razr 50. And it is very wise for Motorola to make all the necessary polishing and refinement of their flip phone to win the hearts of more customers. 😎💯👍🏾💪🏾

3:50 is the screen flicker on the cheaper model just the camera playing tricks on us, or does the more expensive model have a flicker-free screen? I understand it wouldn't be this bad in-person, but I'm personally quite sensitive to screen flicker.

Crazy that companies still don't do propper updates in 2024. It's literally the reason why I switched to apple in the first place. The first three or so phones I owned a decade ago stopped receiving updates about a year after release and were barely useable after two. My iphone 6s is still sitting on a shelf somewhere and I know that when I boot it up it will still be somewhat usable.

I am still not convinced by foldable phones but they do seem to be improving my main concerns is the fragile screens that all the reviewers leave out and battery life can be worse than a standard phone particularly in this flip format

Nowerdays there are barely any changes between updates. Why are the lack of updates a deterrent?
@dragon2knight5 ай бұрын
@@tremarley9648 It's not so much just the OS updates as it shows how well a company is going to support their products. Moto has been horrible on that front and they are showing zero signs of fixing this. You spend that kind of cash on a phone, you need to know it's going to be supported. If it isn't, well, just buy a Chinese flip phone then, you'll get the same level of "support" from there as well.

I've been an iPhone user for years. Coming from iPhone 12 Pro, I'm now daily driving the orange razr 2024 and am very impressed by both the phone and Android. I plan to use both unlocked phones but am making the razr my primary. The outside screen is great to use for many apps. Loving it so far. Will see how the hinge and crease hold up over the coming months. The crease is surprisingly small and hardly noticeable is normal usage.

Tele!!! I have 0 use for ultra wide on my phone I wish if they were going to do only 2 cameras it would be 35mm standard and 75-100mm tele. I want this for ALL PHONES! people look horrible taken on less than 35mm! Everyone should follow Nubia and make 35mm the standard!

I stumbled on this video by accident, but I’m glad I did. I was on the ground floor with Motorola phones, and I do miss their industrial designs from that era. The RAZR+ appeals to me because of the straightforward no-nonsense feature set. Sometimes less is better. ✌️
@ibraheemmonks88665 ай бұрын
Ive had every Z flip available and every single one of them has ended it's life due to wear and tear. My current Z flip 5 has a yellow line going half way across the crease due to a minor drop 8 months ago, as well as a deep scratch on the screen also along the crease. The camera lense is also cracked as is the cover screen. As much as I love foldable phones I think im ready to switch back to normal ones. The cameras and battery life are the main problem, lagging behind competitors and the unique aspect ratio makes common apps like snapchat a pain to use. Durability is also a major issue with every phone developing some sort of issue along the crease after around half a year to a year of use. The cover screen for me doesn't offer enough features as of right now to make the phone worth the sacrifices and I sometimes use it simply to make use of it. Give it 5 years and I believe these phones will be fantastic, right now though is too early.

I've seen this phone in person. It's beautiful, and the display is also. And this the base razr im speaking of. I just got the new galaxy fold 6 and as in love as i am with it, im considering the razr for my second (backup) line. Samsung and Motorola have typically been my go to Android devices.
