I know it doesn't matter to her, but I wish she had radio airplay. She is one million times better than anything on the radio today. She will always be my favorite singer/songwriter. I have listened to her from the very beginning and have all her albums.

Does it really even matter? Have you taken the time to really listen to her lyrics here? Fame? Fortune? on the cover of 'Rolling Stone' perhaps? She has a beautiful life, living on an amazing farm in Tennessee with her beloved Angus. And I'm pretty sure she's wonderfully joyful as to where her singing and career have taken her. Jeesh.

The world seems to have forgotten this truly talented lady. Pity.... she’s only gotten better and better over the years. I’ll always be a huge fan.

The world hasn’t forgotten Chapin. She’s a legend! You’re talking about commercial radio stations that have forgotten everybody plus good music because they are all profit/ad driven now. I love the sh*t out of this song!

The need for solitude has saved me from a lifetime of drinking or drugs. Done those things almost got trapped. Solitude has always kept me from not being able to get loose. And now as I'm older, even in a crowded room, I can go there.

I've loved Chapin's music since I was introduced to her singing "Opening Act" at the CMA awards in 1990. Her music is quite simply timeless, lyrics sublime and completely thought provoking whilst challenging boundaries. One of the best collaborators I've known in the industry, and with the great (and sadly late) John Jennings they were a magical combination, and that's without even mentioning Joan Baez & Shawn Colvin. The song and album are no different and Chapin continues to produce music that searches the innermost soul. An amazing rare talent with a voice that stops you in your tracks.

"I Have A Need For Solitude" I have a need For solitude I'll never be Safe in crowded rooms I like the sound Of silence coming on I come around When everyone has gone I have a need For cool, verdant spaces Beneath the trees Secret empty places Nobody knows So no one will intrude I have a need For solitude But you can find me, when the light is changing At that time of day when there's Little day remaining You can find me where I've been waiting Waiting here for you I never was The pretty girl in school I never was Fast, tough and cool All I was All my life it seems Was hard to love Harder now to keep But you can find me, when the light is changing At that time of day when there's Little day remaining I have a need For solitude I'll never be Safe in crowded rooms I like the sound Of silence coming on I come around when all the rest have gone...
