As an American, I've heard of the Glencoe massacre, but never this in depth. Videos like this with so much detail are what I seek out.

Such an incredible storyteller! As you began weaving the story, always drawing closer towards the terrible event, I felt increasingly sick. I kept thinking the terrible litany of atrocities had to stop. Instead, you inexorably continued listing the evil done that day. Thank you for your research and for the education. I had no idea.

You give an excellent rendition and proposition as to why Glen Lyons (Campbell) was so guilty of 'Murder under Trust'. He knew that Alastair thought that his clan was protected and had no idea, so used that fact to subdue and commit the atrocity.

Great quality of work and very easy to listen to. This series of episodes wouldn't be out of place on TV. I wanted to learn a bit more about the battle of Culloden but didn't think I'd end up being this interested in the History of the Highlands. Keep up the good work I'm surprised you haven't got more subs! 👍

Excellent work with this and the two previous videos! I learned a lot. I really enjoyed your sarcastic jokes in the first episode. Here you had a more respectful tone, fittingly in tune with the greatness of the atrocities. Thank you!

This is the most in depth account of the Glen Coe massacre I have ever heard, and I say thanks for the research and posting. One only has to visit the area briefly, to get a hint of the atmosphere; which I have more than once. I would recommend this and the dramatised version, featuring James Robertson Justice..

Thank you for your detailed research and the amazing documentary! The Glencoe Massacre is also known in Germany but you can't find such a good summary of all the backgrounds. Very interesting that already a few hundred years ago people used the phrase 'I had to follow my orders' as an 'excuse' for their crimes - and that other people did not accept their attitude. Well done 👍

Very well done. It would have been nice to have had the backstory of 'why' the massacre took place, but the projection of how it all went down was excellent.

My father never talked much of family. Upon looking up my exes and how his family was given land and title for saving a king from a charging stag. I looked up mine and the first thing I saw was glencoe. I called my dad and was like WTH? He says well it wasn’t really a massacre it wasn’t that many people… yep guess we are Campbells.

Thnak you. My name is Alan Macdonald Nicolson, son of the chief of Clan Nicolson, or Clan MacNeacail of Sgoirebreac in Skye. Our clan have long been neighbours of the MacDonalds and I would be intersted to know more of their involvement in the jacobite uprisings. What we do know is that our then chief hosted Charles Stewart for several nights of dining while in hiding with Flora MacDonald. Yes, capitalism, exploitation and the clearances went hand in hand in the destruction of the Highland way of life - and in the end, many of the chief's betrayed their kinsman in ordering the clearances - I understand that also was a result of the English policy of re-educating the sons of the chiefs within English institutions.

In the modern world, those Statutes of Iowa of 1609 would be classed as borderline genocidal, would they not? Think about it. Replace Scotland with Tibet (ie the heads of monasteries/Buddhist leaders), and England with China. What you're doing is using your law (imposed by force) to coerce the elites of a conquered indigenous people into having their children grow up in a foreign language and religion, thereby stripping them of their native culture, and surely ethnicity too. I hope there is a moral reckoning on this one day. It seems evident from your videos that Gaelic people in Scotland didn't simply give up that culture and language by choice.

So when the macdonalds slaughter countless covenanters nobody cares but when the mcdonalds get slaughtered by a bunch of campbells suddenly it's the worst thing ever? LMAO

1. Watch 'Guardians To Gallows Herd' which details the crimes committed on the Lowlands by Lochaber MacDonalds 2. Said forays, looting and sometimes murder were often committed against their peers. Noone is playing down the unethical nature of such acts 3. Campbells made up less than a third of the government force 4. There is no excuse for mass murder. Ever.

@@UtopiaPlanitiaStudios The macdonalds chose to reject the democratically elected, popular monarch and chose to follow absolutist monarchy and the divine right of kings Jacobite defenders cry at what happened at Culloden yet are fine with what happened at Sedgemoor And the gaelic highlanders proceeded to once again take up their swords in defending tyranny when they proceeded to put themselves on the government's side and fight against the american whigs in the war of independence The fact that scots have romanticised a people who, in the 17th and 18th centuries were seen as defenders of absolute monarchy into a bunch of wee freedom fighters is honestly pathetic "News of the Highlanders' defeat reached GeneralWashington at Cambridge, and in a letter of April 1, 1776, to Joseph Reed he spoke of "those universal instruments of tyranny, the Scotch" "You will find it a family document, for example, in the opening paragraph of American “grievances” against George III - Jefferson apparently wrote this passage with extraordinary speed on the first sheet of paper that came to hand: “The king has sent over not only soldiers of our common blood, but Scotch & foreign mercenaries to destroy us, invade us and deluge us in blood"

@@UtopiaPlanitiaStudios When did i excuse mass murder? I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of crying and lamenting when highlanders are massacred yet saying nothing about the massacres of covenanters by highlanders The massacre at glen coe is remembered in painting and in song, is talked about continually ad nauseam as an act of terror and bloodshed The covenanters are completely forgotten, nobody cares or laments about the hundreds of covenanters massacred by the government's forces Why is one ok yet the other the saddest thing in the world?

Hahahaha, you're right. Meeting the wilfully ignorant on a bright day is unpleasant enough!!! 😂 Did you even bother watching the video? Or did you just do what every other blinkered fool does and run with your half-baked prejudices? It's rather typical of a MacGregor to not only ignore the facts presented but also to fail to remember that it was our clan who gave succour to Rob Roy after his persecution at the hands of Montrose. Learning is hard when you leave your brains in the peat bogs
