Most people don't really appreciate the significance of this collaboration. If you grew up to this genre of music (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure...etc) this is like the founding fathers uniting.

@@drexlspivey5828 Neither DM nor Erasure were techno bands. DM was still synthpop whether or not Clake left! You could say early synthpop in general had a different sound, look at early OMD and Alphaville. Later eighties synthpop sound evolved into what you hear with New Order and Pet Shop Boys as well as DM and Erasure. Techno music at the time was a whole other genre which came into existence during the late eighties and nineties, mostly. And if you don't believe me, listen to Vince in this interview saying this is the first time he's delving into techno which has a very distinct sound from other synth music.
@drexlspivey58285 жыл бұрын
@@moreshige The original poster didn't mention anything about the style of music, he was talking about the fact it was Vince Clark and Martin Gore collaborating, they could have been making space jazz and his post would have been the same, it's not because it's techno that it's significant

Maybe that was the problem back in the day, in the absence of age, experience, and maturity (such as it is). :) If it wasn't that or a missing left big toe, then it must have been the fiver that Martin owed Vince that broke them up. Yeah, that's it! Martin had forgotten, Vince was too introverted and brooding back then to ever bring it up, and Martin was too introverted and brooding to ever ask what was wrong. It wasn't about the five quid, per se, though, it was about the whole principle of the thing. Vince couldn't stand it anymore and left. Now that he's older and, dare I say it?, wiser, he simply asked for his money back. Things could have been so different! ;)

Without Vince ever leaving Depeche Mode we would have never known Alan Wilder or his talent ( Alan leaving DM just left a weird void and they lost a huge largely ignored talent that most didn't appreciate until he was gone ). Depeche Modes music and sound was changed as Martin Gore started writing . If you listen to Depeche Mode with Vince and sans him you notice just how much the music changed . I think they were better without him as far as their sound went even though some of their best songs were with him . BUT I have always loved Vince . I aways knew how vital he was to Erasure ( synth -pop still but they were great in their own right ) and am glad he felt comfortable in Erasure as he left Depeche Mode because he was uncomfortable with their massive growing fame . The man was part of two groups that were so important to the 80's and were the soundtrack to all our parties , dances, hanging out in our bedrooms , just driving and so much more . He is funny as heck and it was great watching this . Vince and Martin are both total treasures . Thanks for posting this .

+marci mars Yeah, they lasted from late-81 to mid-83 - big in parts of Europe, massive in the UK, and a cult following here in Canada and the U.S. I kept wondering if Vince had lost his mind, leaving two incredibly successful bands just as they were achieving superstardom, but he's proved so incredibly versatile he's been able to mesh successfully with a virtual plethora of other talented musicians.
