A rare loco in running order i ain't seen one move or in real life for decades! It must be 30 years since I last seen a class 58 in the flesh!!! I think I will have to take a trip upto barrow Hill soon!!! Good video of this bone in action 🥰😍🤩

It's certainly been a while since they've seen any action in the UK, hopefully it won't be too long until this one makes some visits to some heritage lines! Bear in mind, there aren't any class 58s at Barrow Hill, though always a nice place to visit nonetheless :)

I remember there being a 58 sat in the siding at Leicester for years. Never thought I'd see one running under its own power again, much less in those very sidings! Cool thing to witness, brings back memories of watching freight come through as a kid. :)

Most of them still survive in some form: 4 preserved here in the UK, plus 58022 which is being used for the Ivatt Diesel Recreation, then the remaining survivors are stored in France and Spain after having been exported in the mid 00's.

23 is a busy little engine who lives at Leicester with his friends DC, Large Logo and DATS. One Tuesday his driver told him that they were going to do some training. ''But I know what to do'' exclaimed 23, ''I don't need training.'' His driver explained that it was the men that need training and that he was just needed to show them how. 23 felt very proud and bustled off with his smart blue paint. Unfortunately some of the other engines like to poke fun at him, sometimes they'd snigger and call him ''Boney''. which he didn't like and sometimes they would cough whenever he came near. 23 spoke with his driver: ''They're coughing at me, it's because of my smoky chimney.'' His driver told him not to worry about it and promised to take him for a run later on. When he pulled up, the men in their orange hi viz gathered 'round and told him they liked training with him and with a happy toot he bustled off ready to tell his friends all about it.

@jonh845 Жыл бұрын
I believe it's at least 'descended' from it. Similar claims can be found in the RailUK forums; also the Class 56's 16 cylinder version can be considered a descendant of the 16(C)SVT in 10000/1, Class 40s, and Class 50s.

Does ANYONE know, how many 58's are still either, in service, or stored in such a manner that they 'could' go back into service, whether that's on a preserved line, or, like many locomotives now, back on frontline duties.?🤔?. Can ANYONE help me with this.?🤔?. These were MY favorite 'freight' loco's, and have wondered this for years now.! Thanks, in advance of any info given.!🥰🥰🥰!.
@BrickishRail3 жыл бұрын
No class 58s remain in active service. A large number are in storage in France and Spain, though reportedly in poor condition and are unlikely to return to traffic. In the UK, 58023 is the only one currently in operation, and was originally planned to attend numerous preserved lines last year until Covid put a stop to them. Three others are in various stages of restoration: 58016, which can also be seen in this video at Leicester, and 58012 and 048 at the Battlefield Line. 58022 is currently at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Wirksworth, and is being stripped down for parts to be used on the LMS 10000 Ivatt Diesel Recreation. Hope this helps :)
