Let's not forget that Rainbow Seems to be surprise at how Gilda acted? One thing that a best friends does is that they know each others limits, and aren't fooled by them shrugging it off. Like that old childhood friend that pushes you out of the room because they know you're about to scream insults which would make an adult cry? Kinda like that. Another thing is that RD didn't tell the others about Gilda, sure Marshmellow and Orange pony comments that they knew that Gilda was a griffon, but she didn't tell them about how she acted, obviously she's a hothead and is rather brutal, which is kinda appropriate for a Griffon (that things an eagle and a lion, I'm surprised that she didn't eat everypony) and her kind, one more thing as a 'best' friend you would know how you partner would react when you snap, as the case when you best friend nails down chairs and tables cause they know that you're going to start throwing furniture, Rd didn't even say to Gilda to not freak out and scolded her for doing so. That's like screaming at your friend that you KNOW has tourettes syndrom for suddenly shouting out profonities, and frankly RD seems to side with the M6 (Which I don't have a problem) over her childhood, flying buddy and best friend.

I think Gilda was just really angry the whole episode. Imagine you would see an old friend of you after you havent met in 10 Years. But a new friend wants to spend time with him as well, and completly ignores that you havent seen him in a long time. I would be pissed off to. I would also be really angry when all those pranks were "activated" by me. I would also scream at the person who i think did that on porpouse. And RD just sent her away. I would be really heartbroken if i was in that situaition. I can really relate to Gilda. (Sorry if i misspelled something or if my grammar isnt very good, but i am german.)

Understandably frustrated? Yes, maybe. Excuses her behavior? No. Plenty of people can get frustrated without blowing up in other's faces, it's called self-control. Getting the short end of the rope is never an excuse to behave poorly yourself. If this was all true, there are plenty of ways Gilda could have reacted to it without being rude the way she was. She could have taken Pinkie aside and asked her leave her and Dash alone for the day. She could have said "That's okay" after Fluttershy said sorry for bumping into her. She could have told Dash that she feels uncomfortable in a party where she keeps getting pranked and asked to leave. But she didn't, instead she chose to be antagonistic and rude. We all have the occasional blow-up, yes, but Gilda continuously blew up without any regret for her actions.

I heavily disagree with you. Gilda was the cool character in this episode, and she was 100% justified in how she acted. Pinkie, much like in Filli Vanilli, was being really rude and inconsiderate the entire time, and we're supposed to feel SORRY for her and Rainbow in the end? Sorry, but no. Gilda and Dash are friends, they haven't seen each other in a long time, and they want to hang out. Pinkie keeps trying to butt in, Gilda gets more and more frustrated, and THEN Gilda gets pranked and mocked at a party and she's supposed to just laugh and let it go? That's bullshit. Gilda was purposely made to be a straw-man in this episode and it's garbage. Pinkie's attitude just sucks when she acts like this, and Rainbow just pushing Gilda away without giving her a chance at the end was too harsh.

I personally see Pinkie as being in the wrong. Gilda was trying to hang out with a friend she may not have seen in a long time and Pinkie keeps interrupting in the rudest way possible, instead of asking why Gilda keeps doing what she does. After so many pranks, even I would be a little infuriated when so many ponies laughed at her. Finally Rainbow tells her friend she didn't need help making a fool out of herself instead of being civil about it. In some ways, I think Gilda was right.

I don't like Rainbow Dash, but her speech at the end is a redeeming quality of her character. I like both that scene, and when she stands up to both Spitfire and Lightning Dust. Those were very good shining moments showing how much her character developed from a brash asshole to a loyal friend. Like if you agree, comment if you disagree.

You know what? This episode gave me an idea. They should do an episode where two of the mane six fight and Rainbow Dash is in the middle of it, testing her element, her ability to be loyal to both friends. I know they kinda touched on that here, but there wasn't much weight to it since Gilda was an ass who needed to be dropped like a bad habit. I'd like to see them do this sort of thing again in a situation where BOTH friends are worth keeping, and the problem isn't solved as easily as telling off the asshole.

I think the moral of this episode is pretty sound. The episodic presentation is a little simple but this is a lesson young kids need to learn. If I had something like this when I was a kid, it may have saved me a lot of heartache. There needs to be more spotlight on the idea as well that sometimes there's no rhyme or reason as to why friends can turn on you.

The older I get, the more I sympathize with Gilda in this ep. Of course, what she did was wrong, but even as a kid i felt pretty bad for her when she left Ponyville. And even if it was done with good intentions, the party with all the pranks felt like it was pretty much only made to make Gilda go insane, and also makes Pinkie look like some sort of cute sadist. Maybe it's just because i've befriended some mean/delinquent types before in real life, but some people just have to be approached with gloves on, and after you get to know them better they can be really good. I like to think of this episode as MLP's "Homer's Enemy", where a cynical and down-to-earth character gets transported to a cute cartoon world, gets unintentionally tormented by a bunch of wacky characters to the point of going crazy

In all honesty I can only see a couple of the pranks not being targeted towards her. The spiced candy and the punch glass being those two. All the others are placed so that she would get them. Presents are typically bought for either the birthday pony or the guest of honor. Large cakes with candles to be blown are once again usually for the guest of honor. I'll give the hoof buzzer a pass but only barely since Pinkie is only seen offering Gilda a hoofshake. So yea sorry, at least half of the pranks were targeted towards Gilda.

Here's my issue with this episode: It directly contradicts Bad Seed. For a show that focuses so much on redemption and the like, Gilda's snub and subsequent exile just seems cruel. If she hadn't gotten pranked at all at the party she may have gotten nicer and even apologized, but they chose to just dump a pile of misery on her and then act like she's in the wrong for getting upset.

While this episode was given a silver I have to disagree. This episode is my least favorite of Season 1 and my second least favorite overall. (The only episode I hate more is the Mysterious Mare Do Well and if you don't want to read a huge rant then don't ask why) The main reason is Gilda. I don't hate her. In fact I actually really like her. I just feel like she shouldn't be an antagonist or at least not a bully. Making her a bully would have been perfectly fine if it hadn't been for the fact that she was a great friend of Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash would never befriend a bully unless she herself was a bully which we know she wasn't. She had defended Fluttershy from a bunch of bullies. If Rainbow Dash was a bully then Fluttershy would have been a prime target for her. I also feel like Gilda isn't anywhere near as bad as she could or should have been. In my opinion majority of her actions were pretty justified. When Pinkie Pie was constantly following Gilda and Rainbow Dash Gilda was quite polite to her at first. (or she at least attempted to be polite) But as time went on she got more annoyed which is quite understandable. They make it seem like Gilda and Rainbow Dash are good friends who hadn't seen each other in (presumably) a long time. We don't know if it's been weeks, months, or years since they last met. I think Gilda had every reason to be irritated at Pinkie Pie. Granted she could have handled it better but she could have handled it worse. The prank Gilda pulled on Granny Smith was meant to be harmless. Sure stealing an apple is bad but its not horrible. Gilda's worst action was making Fluttershy cry. While I can't excuse this I'm not going to say it killed her character for me. (I'm not that big a fan of Fluttershy. Out of all the Mane Six she's my fourth favorite) Gilda was probably still a bit ticked off about Pinkie Pie ruining the small amount of time she could have spent with Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then we come to the party. Honestly this was where they tried to make Gilda seem like a total jerk. For me though they failed completely. Gilda walked into how many pranks? Five? Six? Seven? Nobody else was getting pranked. She also felt like Pinkie Pie was out to get her and she had a legitimate reason to think so. Despite all the crap she went through Gilda took it as calmly as possible for the sake of Rainbow Dash. Speaking of which Rainbow Dash ditching Gilda just like that was a terrible ending. Let's go back to episode two with the Shadowbolts incident. At that point the writers suggested that Rainbow Dash would choose her friends over her life's dream. Yet she hardly knew the other ponies. She only met Twilight Sparkle that day and she didn't seem to have any sort of friendship with the others. Now she ditches a close friend that she had for a long time for five ponies that she's known for a month tops. Isn't Rainbow Dash supposed to be the Element of Loyalty? Ditching Gilda is not what I'd call loyal. Maybe if Gilda had been acting like a jerk for a week or so it'd be more understandable but this was just one day where Gilda was in a bad mood. The moral at the end is awful. They try to make Gilda seem like a false friend which is just a load of bull. She put up with an annoying Pinkie Pie as well as a whole bunch of pranks just to stay on Rainbow Dash's good side. That is not a false friend. That is a damn good friend. Gilda reached her breaking point which honestly I would have reached way sooner had I been in her position. Majority of what she said was probably just her speaking out of anger from all the crap she went through. She probably meant what she said about Pinkie Pie since she thought that Pinkie Pie was the one that set up the pranks. Now we come to Pinkie Pie. Before I continue let me just say that I love Pinkie Pie. (She's my second favorite of the Mane Six with my favorite being Rainbow Dash) Pinkie Pie is always happy and energetic and it puts a smile on my face. However in this episode she was really irritating. She couldn't take the hint that Rainbow Dash and Gilda wanted some alone time? Doesn't she have at least four other friends who weren't busy at the time? When she puts herself in the wrong I feel a sense of justice. Pinkie Pie was sort of the antagonist in this episode. If she had left Gilda and Rainbow Dash alone things probably would have worked out a lot better. This episode was pretty bad and it only got worse the more I thought about it. If they wanted to make Gilda a bully then she shouldn't have been a friend of Rainbow Dash's unless Rainbow Dash herself was a bully that later softened while Gilda had not. Maybe Gilda could have pulled pranks with Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie but she took it too far and neither of them wanted to confront her about it then she would have been a better villain. Looking back now this definitely is my least favorite episode of Season 1. Hopefully Gilda could make a return in Season 5 but I'm not holding my breath. What I'd really like to see is Gilda get redeemed as well as Lightning Dust (another character who shouldn't have been a villain). Then those two could team up with Rainbow Dash and be their own flying team similar to the Wonderbolts. Sadly I can't see this happening anytime soon so for now we'll have to rely on fanfiction to put Gilda in a better light.

Rainbow Dash's friendship with Gilda: I agree that RD wouldn't knowingly befriend a bully, but the episode makes it clear she DIDN'T know Gilda was a bully; until the very end, Gilda only acted mean when RD wasn't looking. It's possible she was always like that; maybe back when they were in camp RD caught Gilda being a jerk one time, called her on it, and Gilda learned to hide that side of her around RD. It's also possible that Gilda was nicer to begin with, but in the time she spend apart from RD she changed. 2. Pinkie Pie's annoyance: Yes Pinkie pushed the envelope, but the decent thing to do would be to let RD handle her. "Do you want Pinkie to come, Rainbow?" (and letting RD see she was uncomfortable). Gilda's actions towards Pinkie were understandable, but still uncalled for. What's more, she KNEW they were uncalled for, since she made sure RD was out of sight and hearing before trying to get rid of Pinkie. 3. Gilda about town: Pranking Granny Smith was bad for the same reason pranking Fluttershy would've been bad; it's not sporting when the victim can't laugh it off and doesn't have the capacity for pay-back. Plus startling senior citizens can be hazardous to their health. Gilda didn't even take the time to show Granny there was no harm done, like Pinkie and RD did with their pranks. And yes, stealing an apple isn't "horrible", but it's still wrong, and I personally wouldn't want to associate with a flat-out thief. Then we come to the Fluttershy incident. You say you can't excuse it, but then you try anyway: "wrong place at the wrong time". Sorry, I don't think that flies...at all. What Gilda did to Fluttershy was wrong on a PRIMAL level. Let me illustrate what I mean. In an social animal group (say, monkeys), you various ranks of dominance, with those ranks determined by who is strongest and most assertive. When a lower-rank encounters a higher-rank, they typically react like Fluttershy did, act as submissive as possible, and offer no challenge. The NORMAL response from the higher-rank is to go about their business, and leave the lower-rank alone. But once in a while you'll have an animal that takes submissiveness as an invitation to bully; they torment the lower-rank because they know the lower-rank won't retaliate. That 's what Gilda does here. She could've curtly told Fluttershy to watch where she was going, and went on her own way. Instead she took the time to punish Fluttershy for DARING to enter her personal space, and that's just sick. Only a bully who gets off on causing others pain would act that way. 4. The party: Yes, it was reasonable for Gilda to suspect Pinkie Pie set her up (and I'm pretty sure Pinkie was at least in on the pranks RD had set up), but if Gilda was truly a decent person who could take what she dished out, she would've genuinely laughed along with everyone else, or at least not exploded the way she did. Yes, she tried to hold it in for RD's sake, but even scummy people will kiss up those they perceive as higher on the food chain.

This episode was the first since the ending part of the premier to really make me cringe although this early I almost expected it however I was hooked on Pinkie since Giggle at the ghosty so I was just (secretly) excited that she was getting an episode and the great beginning had me laughing a lot and the little bits of comedy here and there made the episode bearable just enough for me to move on as I was genuinely laughing at the early episodes which was so strange to me that I had to see what else the series could do and this episode proved that the comedy was strong enough to over power the childishness of these particularly early episodes.

Ok my friend, clearly you did not catch on to the sarcasm, I'm trying show how ridiculous it is when people say they hate this episode and other episodes like ones with Angel because the characters act like assholes - it's this really strange trend where people seem to think the cartoon characters make a moral decision to be unlikable and don't seem to realise it's what the writers intend, they want them to hate these characters, they succeed, therefore somehow the episode is bad-ridiculous yes?

I found this episode as the first truly great episode. The characters are all enjoyable in this. Maybe not Gilda, but she doesn't ruin the episode for me and I find that she did get better in season 5. Still for this episode, I will admit, if you can't tolerate characters like Gilda, it might hurt your experience with the episode. It happened with me. But as time went along and I watched it a couple more times, I don't hate her not as much as I used to. I thought the humor in this was great, there wasn't a dull moment in the entire 22 minute runtime of the episode, I loved how they handled Pinkie in the episode, and the episode overall was a fun ride. 4 out of 5 Stars Gold

Since Pinkie Pie tried to solve all of the problems with a party, but all of the pranks were made by Rainbow Dash, then that means that Pinkie Pie was actually trying to make peace with Gilda after all that she saw, and even forcefully inviting Fluttershy. I think the episode states that Pinkie was trying to get Gilda to stop acting like she was in a bad mood. She knows that Rainbow Dash is good friends with her, so it's Nottingham far fetched for her to think that this isn't Gilda at her best and just needed a bit of cheering up via a party.

Dude you review wad ok but I dont think you payed close enough attenchen to gildas body language here, after junior speedsters chant dident you notice gildas reaction to pinkies laughing at her? (Pinkie dident mean to be rude) but gilda took it personally and her actions and conclutions like the one at the party show she may have been bullied in the past and learned to act out and fight back like fluttershy except with her she retreats inward and runs away. Its possible rainbow came to her aid

I don't like Gilda as much. And no, it's not because she hurt fluttershy's feelings. I don't necessarily like fluttershy either. But, I don't like Gilda because of her character. She's a jerk to all ponies besides rainbow dash. I didn't like this episode because nopony believed pinkie pie when she said Gilda was a jerk and I just didn't really like how oblivious the characters are

The humor is funny but doesn't make sense at times. Plus Gilda sucks as a character as she is just enforce as the bully anti message. The duo between Pinkie and Rainbow is the only reason why this episode is not higher on my worst list of season one.
