It's funny as a depiction.... but it comes from Dante's Allegheri's Inferno, so it's more a christian version of Charon than a greek version XD In the greek myths, the only one who beats anyone with the pole is Herakles, and it's Charon at the end of the stick! And he's punished afterwards because he let Herakles pass without paying XD

16:00 I remember thinking this when I first played this game myself. Honestly, the bait and switch of Persephone being the antagonist disappointed me a lot with this game. Morpheus had been teased and built up the whole game and then it all just ended up being a giant anticlimax. Morpheus should have been the game's antagonist, and as you said, they could have done a lot with Morpheus taunting Kratos with his nightmares or tricking Kratos into thinking he could rid him of them, before trying to slay him. A lot of wasted opportunity there, sadly.

Regarding the cyclops at the beginning of the game: it appears to be wearing some sort of slave collar, and considering the fuppers are pretty prominent enemies, i wouldn't be surprised if the Persians within this universe took some exotic beasts to bolster their own forces. This aside, i'm enjoying this series and appreciate the effort you put into them! It's a bit early ot already be saying this, but i wonder what you'd think of the mythological elements in other hack-and-slash type games, such as the Darksiders series, Dante's inferno, Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death and the like.

9:52 Well, here goes nothing, but actually Persephone in the original myths is never stated to be a Goddess of springtime, springtime is just a product of Demeter´s getting so exited and happy about being with her daughter again, that she brings life to the world. In linear b texts from Minoan Greece there is reference to Persephone as a cthonic goddess of the underworld, yet no reference to Hades til a while after. @15:30 Even though it's probably a case of retroactively changing the canon, I recall reading somewhere that after Kratos killed Thanatos in God of War Ascension, which is a prequel to this game, it's implied that Kratos himself became the God of Death, even though he didn't really know it, and it's why Kratos could pull off killing Persephone even though as far as he knew, he was just a mortal/demigod servant of Olympus. It could just as well be that he only needed Pandora's Box to kill Ares because either: 1. Athena was just that desperate to get someone to stop/kill Ares when she couldn't do it herself because of Zeus forbidding the Olympians kinslaying each other, but she didn't want Kratos to know he was already a god, so she sent him on a quest that would "help" him obtain the power of a god, or 2. Ares in the GoW is legitimately much more powerful than he was in the myths and Kratos did actually need the boost anyway to match him.

@@brandonlyon730 yeah from what I heard the game was planned to be one part and that's it. That's why at the end of GoW I Gaia says Kratos was overlooking wars forever. So they probably didn't want to bring Artemis backwhen they got green light for a sequel. As to why? I have no idea, probably there wasn't any reason to mention her before GoW III and in GoW III they didn't want to add yet another boss fight. But honestly her dissapearing isnt that weird. She is goddes of the hunt after all and she probably spends more time with her Huntresses in the forests, than on Olympus

Regarding the god killing in this game. Yes, it is a prequel. We don't know that Kratos is a demigod yet(son of Zeus and a mortal woman), so that's what may confuse a lot of people as to why he's able to kill gods. He's always had the power, opening Pandora's Box just gave him Hope. Which one could argue was a power boost, but it was a boost on top of his demigodly powers.

14:40 honestly that'd have been so funny if Kratos went to kill Persephone and she just incinerated him by turning to her true form, and if he somehow crawled his way back to life they could just hang out at the exit in that form to kill him the moment he spots them

About the whole “kratos killing gods” in this game thing: Notice that when he used charon’s scythe on him to cut him in half, Charon survived. But when kratos used the gauntlet of Zeus, he managed to kill Charon. Same with Persephone, he killed her with the gauntlet. I believe it’s the power of Zeus within the gauntlet that’s allowing kratos to kill them
@reveredrogue9725
@reveredrogue9725 Жыл бұрын
The reason why he was able to kill Charon and Persephone is pretty much obvious with the weapon he uses to kill them. Everytime we see him delivering the killing blow, its always with him using the Gauntlet of Zeus which can kill immortals like the gods.
@Auster9376
@Auster9376 Жыл бұрын
If that's the case, then why didn't Zeus give Kratos the gauntlet in GOW1? No matter which way you slice it, it's a very considerable plot hole, or a major retcon at best.
@reveredrogue9725
@reveredrogue9725 Жыл бұрын
@@Auster9376 Considering the fact that chains of olympus was a prequel to god of war 1 releaesed 3 years after the original game, they may have just made the gauntlet to justify kratos having the ability to kill a god. Not saying that it isn't a plot hole, just trying to explain how he killed them before obtaining his godslaying powers.

No it's not because of the weapons at this point of the game kratos had the strength to defeat the weaker gods the gods and the mortals believed he could so + how can a normal mortal beat hundreds of undead, Cyclops, Hyperion guard, Sphinx, Baisilik, gorgons and Banshee? + he was born a demi God
@reveredrogue9725
@reveredrogue9725 Жыл бұрын
@@rbgamer3540 What are you talking about? Strong belief doesn't empower anyone even the gods in this game. Kratos had the strength to battle many enemies but he couldn't kill immortals. That is the very point of the Gauntlet of Zeus. Its description pretty much says that it is deadly to even immortals being one of the few things that can kill immortals. Just go actually watch their deaths and observe how Kratos kills them. If he already had the strength to kill them, why show him using the gauntlet to deliver the killing blow.

So interesting fact about Charon and why he might be using a scythe. In Greek, the word Charon (more like "charos" in modern Greek) refers to both Charon from Greek myth and the grim reaper at the same time,so I guess that's where the scythe comes from.

As for the Basilisk, Persia is originally in south-western Asia, but at this point they own Egypt, and have a lot of trade with the rest of North-Africa, so I can see how they got a Basilisk, if they lived there ^^ Idem for the Cyclops by the way, half of the greek world was in Anatolia, already under Persian rule. Persia was a multicultural empire and the biggest empire on Earth, that was a pretty big deal XD

I think the whole “basilisk not killing Kratos with a glance” thing could be explained away by the basilisk’s appear to have non-functional eyes. They could be using their ears and nose to detect Kratos, in addition to Kratos giving away his position each time he strikes it, but that could be reading too far into it.
