The way I always saw it, the minotaurs and other monsters you fight in these games were all soulless copies of the ones from the myths, you only fight the real one once but after that they just throw lesser copies at you. So, it would make sense for the copies to have alterations made to them by whatever God is sending them after Kratos, like making Harpies match the element of the location.

It's weird to think that according to Herakles in 3, the 12 labours and Kratos's quest to free himself from Ares were concurrent. In fact there's a tineline. Kratos was sent on the quest to kill ares at the same time Herakles was cleaning the Augean stables while Kratos killed Ares during Herakles's trip to the Garden of the hespirades Meaning all mention of Herakles in GoW prior to 2 is anachronistic as Herakles was *still doing his labours*
@philipsalama8083
@philipsalama8083 Жыл бұрын
I disagree. Herakles was already famous before he did his labors. He was only seventeen when he killed the Cithaeron lion and knocked up Thespius' 50 daughters and gained great renown for it. This was before he'd even met Megara, so I'd say people would know his name already during Kratos' misadventures.

You know, if Rick Riordan was seeing this comment, I wish he could make a series involving Percy and the gang against the Kingdom of Atlantis. I mean Atlantis was founded by a group of half bloods, who became evil, maybe the Atlanteans could be the villains of the series and maybe try to take over the world and become the world superpower they used to be as well as take up another war against Olympus but this time, they came prepared.

I'm actually picturing how such a story would play out, like in the earlier arcs we encounter undead Atlanteans who are searching for a series of special items, the purpose of these items is unclear until the last few books, where we learn they're being used to raise Atlantis itself out of the sea. When Percy and co actually journey to Atlantis to stop them, it's discovered the mist is heavily concentrated on the island, much like the mist on Mount Othrys, and the resulting battle culminates in a fight to the finish against the 10 original kings of Atlantis, who have also risen from the dead.

1:55 There actually were creatures called tritons in Greek mythology, that were named after Poseidon's son. In many instances it was basically their name for merfolk, but when treated as a distinct group were said to have blue or green skin and hair, and often two tails instead of one. There was even a creature called a Tanagran triton. It lived near the land of Tanagra (near Thebes) and would devour women as they got near the water. It was defeated when Dionysus left some wine out for it. The creature drank the wine and passed out, then while it was sleeping Dionysus cut its head off.

Small correction: There are actually multiple (thousands as far as I'm aware) of Keres in Greek myth. They are the spirits of violent death, as opposites to Thanatos, who resembles peacheful death, and assistants of the Morai and the god Moros. They could be stopped in their hunger for blood with which they would drive soldiers to kill eachother by the gods but could also be let loose by them. So they are capable of killing through other people
@jdrvargo287
@jdrvargo287 Жыл бұрын
Well said. I mentioned this in a comment here as well. Both the fact that there are implicitly a multitude of them, but that they definitely do kill. No idea where he got the idea that there are only two. Though Thanatos actually represents all forms of death, not just peaceful. This can be seen in the story of Sisyphus. Since when Thanatos was bound in that story all deaths stopped, including violent deaths (much to Ares' chagrin).

It's good to see Thanatos without a scythe and instead have a sword. I've also been reading up on Greek mythology for plenty of years and it is kind of irritating that people claim that he should have a scythe instead of a sword to be more accurate and then when I point them at the mythology they say it's a fake mythology. So thank you for your wonderful video even if it is on the game but it includes my favorite Greek god Thanatos.

I don't know if it was said in the novels but it was heavily implied that during the time Deimos was imprisoned he would try to escape numerous times but wouldn't get too far. I'd imagine he had the bare minimum of eating and getting clothes seeing he's wearing a different outfit from when he was a kid and to go through all of that with little sanity left on the possibility of being rescued after 30 years has to take extreme willpower and determination but I feel like if Deimos lived he would've suffered from PTSD for some time as Kratos helps him but it would've been cool to have seen a call to the movie/story of 300 where Deimos became the Spartan General like Leonidas and lead the Spartans to fight with Kratos to take down Zeus.

Off the cuff: * Demeter, Hera and Hestia are Kronos' daughters, not Metis' (and yes, Kronos ate his daughters too. First in fact) * Chrion and Hypnos are male, not female (Chrion had daughters though.) * Metis was a goddess of thought, not fertility. * Kronos ate his children as soon as they were born, so Hades' childhood was entirely spent inside Kronos. * Helios sided with Olympus in the Titan War, and so maintained his freedom. * Apollo never r*ped Persephone. He did try to propose to her, as did Hermes, Ares and Hephaestus, but Demeter wouldn't let any of them near her daughter and chased them off.

All the time when you said something along the lines of “this isn’t mythologically accurate” in my mind I finished the sentence with “but would be cool if it were”. Also correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t Thantatoses animal the butterfly because of a wordplay? Like “psyche” in Greek means both butterfly and soul? Learned that from Hades (the game). And this is just a random thought, having the mother of a child of Zeus turn into a monster, which forces the child to either be killed by her or kill their mother feels like something Hera in historical canon would absolutely do. Sure I don’t think that was the case in this game but it would absolutely be in character for her

Absolutely, and maybe the idea that the guardian of Pandora's Temple was actually the real Minotaur (The one that Theseus killed in his story) himself brought back from the grave and is now used as a protector of Pandora's Box, with multiple other Minotaurs (including Cyclops, Geryons, Etc.) being mindless, bloodthirsty copies of the original. That would've so cool if it were real, but sadly it isn't. That and the concept of Kronos, instead of being chopped up and thrown into Tartarus, was used as Pandora's Temple's walk-around slave for all eternity. So many things in these games made so cool and creative than what actually happens to them in their real mythology...

Hi 😅 I really like your videos, they are extremely fun! Im really into greek mythology and it is oddly amusing, how you pick apart the inaccuracies. Maybe you could consider looking at the game Fenix Rising? I think it's pretty funny and maybe you would enjoy Zeus commentary whilst the player goes about the quests. (Sorry if something is grammatically incorrect, English is not my first language)
