A Harley Roadster, a bedroll, a lonely stretch of highway: Jim Bronson (Michael Parks) is traveling where the road and the day take him, trying to make sense of things after the suicide of his close friend. He doesn’t go far along a magnificent stretch of California’s coastal Big Sur before he meets Temple Brooks (Bonnie Bedelia), a runway bride just as adrift as Jim is. Together, they’ll ride that Harley all the way to New Orleans. Together, they might find what they’re looking for. The pilot film for the same-titled 26-episode TV series, Then Came Bronson - seen here in an international version that has footage not seen in U.S. telecasts - came along in the free-wheeling era of Easy Rider. Hop on.

The series "Then Came Bronson" came along at the right time. The country was struggling with a notable political and social debate. The anti-war and Hippie movements were at odds with those who felt that a communal, gypsy lifestyle was idealistic and impractical. Both sides demanded rigid conformity. Jim Bronson, as portrayed by Michael Parks, illustrated another way of existing within the political and social tensions of the time. He didn't just pick a side, join up and embrace the appropriate dogma. The Jim Bronson character seemed comfortable in both worlds and made a point of celebrating his freedom and individuality. Jim Bronson demonstrated that we could live and survive the turmoil of the times without picking sides. His message was Be free, Be happy, Be yourself. That message was a breath of fresh air and it still resonates today.

Michael Parks is a very fine actor. He could do all his own stunts and did the 'hill climb' footage himself. I loved the guy when I was a kid, watching the show and riding the Honda Trail 70 bike my grandmother had bought me. I was right there with Bronson, living life my way.

Yes he was a Great Actor.. but he didn't do all of his own stunts.. It was Bud Ekins who did the stunts in Bronson. With a watch cap and sunglasses, Bud looked a lot like Michael. The CZ-250 Side Pipe that actually climbed the hill was Bud's personal Desert Racing Bike that he painted up and added the sissy bar to, the night before they filmed the scene.. It's actually Bud who is on the poster that was hanging in the Harley Dealerships at the time.

Actor Michael Parks had some creative differences with the show's producers, who wanted to make Bronson more of a "tough guy", and the scripts more violent. I remember being in high school, and everyone talked about Parks and "Along Came Bronson"...and later there was Hollywood buzz then show might be revived, but it never happened...

Bronson: Oh, I don't know, whereever I end up I guess. Man : Boy, that's living! All that freedom. Me, I'm tied down to a beatiful wife, three wonderful children, a high paying executvive job, stocks and bonds, and split-level house with a swimming pool! While you've got the things that count - a rusty bike and a moldy sleeping bag and the clothes on your back.
