“I diagnosed you in the first 30 seconds. Did you think you were talking to the paper boy?” Everybody needs a therapist like this.

I’ve had several therapists in my adult, and adolescent years. When they play games like that they lose me. If one like this works for you, that is wonderful. I mean that. We all deserve the help that works for the individual.

One of the best episodes. It is a common theme in Sorkin's world where a therapist comes along to help one of the protagonists in need.

I had a similar situation after Desert Storm. About a year after getting back, I started having really crazy panic attacks randomly. It was like this overwhelming feeling of doom, that just knocked the wind out of me and i would have to sit down.... and it happened very randomly. Turns out, there is a type of truck, that when it backs up makes a beeping noise that exactly matches the air alert warnings we had during the first weeks of the war. As soon as I put 2 and 2 together and realized what was causing the panic attacks, I no longer have them.

When I got back from Desert Storm, I was at the airport making a phone call, when they decided to test their tornado warning siren. Sounded just like an air raid alarm. I was on the deck, covering my head before I realized what was happening. Not a fun experience.

@@Me-cu8wr As far as I'm aware, tornado sirens are identical to air raid sirens, in some cases originally used for air raids and repurposed for tornadoes. The actions you're supposed to take for tornadoes and air raids are more or less the same, albeit with air raids usually having more urgency. I can understand why you reacted that way and how embarrassing it must have been. When I lived in Alabama in the late 90's where tornado warnings happened multiple times a year, for some reason my family called them air raid sirens instead of tornado sirens. I've since realized how odd that sounds and now call it a tornado siren.

Out of curiosity, what is the type of truck?
@PeterSedesse

@@jbuster9 I'm not sure the make or model, The original ones weren't near my house, but the ones that finally made it 'click' for me was a garbage truck backing up to the dumpster at my apartment complex. The final one, I was actually in bed, still had the attack, but was calm enough to figure out what was going on.

@@Me-cu8wr At that point in the war, we were still living in Saudi Arabia, I am pretty sure it was S.A civil alarms we were hearing. It wasn't like a fire alarm, it was a very digital sounding beep-beep.

Perhaps the greatest West Wing episode of all time, and Adam Arkin really nails what a trauma psychiatrist would do in this situation

Dr Sidney freeman, on a lot of episodes. A lot of Hawkeye central character on mash. Plus Sidney keeps mentioning the bus. Hawkeye then breaks down and remembers lady didn’t kill a chicken. She killed her crying baby on the bus to save everyone 😪

I agree, but that, being insufferable, (by definition) when done by awesome actors as WW had, that's what makes great characters in fiction. Believable and tolerable, in fiction and drama is boring.
