The American Battlefield Trust preserves America’s hallowed battlegrounds and educates the public about what happened there and why it matters. We permanently protect these battlefields for future generations as a lasting and tangible memorial to the brave soldiers who fought in the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War.

Hey folks... November 19th is the reading of the Gettysburg Address, just two weeks... Rain or shine (or snow). The cemetery gets packed, and since nothing happened last year, this year should a great event. Dress warm and I'll see you there... tio Jimmy

I LOVE when you can look at paintings or photographs of battlefields and still see the exact place those photos and paintings were made. At least for me it really gives you a whole different level of appreciation.

There's a big monument dedicated to the 16th in the area they fought. I am from Michigan as well so I felt I had to give my respects to the boys who died there. Gettysburg is a very heavy place, my man. Can't say I cried when I was there but there were areas where my eyes began to well up because you know what happened. Especially at devil's den. By the end of the trip I was mentally exhausted and was struggling to keep myself from getting sad. You'll know what I mean when you go there.

Amazing. I love then and now pictures. Blows my mind imagining it at that time and the chaos that took place and then seeing it now, quiet and calm. But the chaos remains.

Blue Licks Battlefield State Park is only about 20 minutes away from where I live and do business. It's an awesome place to visit and I highly recommend checking it out. There are actually several battlefields protected by the state and by the federal government in Kentucky that are well worth going and checking out.

Even if you just visit the museum, you’ll appreciate BOTH SIDES THAT FOUGHT HERE. The 360 tapestry artwork is breathtaking especially if you follow up with walking the grounds. All battlefields are worth a visit and they are IMPORTANT TO REMIND YOUNGER GENERATIONS THAT THIS COUNTRY DOES NOT SUCK!!! WE STAND FOR SOMETHING AND IT IS ABOUT TIME WE THE PEOPLE TAKE IT BACK FROM CORRUPT GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE!!

When I visited Devil's Den I found the spot where a Confederate sharpshooter was famously "killed" (it was later known that his body was moved there for a photo op) by a stone wall between the boulders. I still get chills today thinking about it and how over the years people keep the wall built as it was when the battle occurred

because camera equipment was so bulky and difficult to transport at that time that by the time civilians were able to get their cameras on location, the armies had long moved on.

I wonder why so many battle fields in south west Pennsylvania are undocumented and or unobserved and ignored although these battle fields didn't matter before now that oil/gas and coal are taking over they will be completely forgotten.

And Maine Men, like who, The 20th Maine? You mean the Battle of Gettysburg saving bayonet charge? You must not be from New England. Nice piece of work nonetheless.. Apparently it's been reclaimed from overgrowth. Too bad it wasn't done before the movie. It just wasn't believable shooting it out among the woods. Had it been like that during the Battle Longstreet maneuvers would never have been seen.
