Mikhail Glinka - Nocturne in F minor "La separation" (audio + sheet music)

Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka (1 June [O.S. 20 May] 1804 - 15 February [O.S. 3 February] 1857) was the first Russian composer to gain wide recognition within his own country, and is often regarded as the fountainhead of Russian classical music. Glinka's compositions were an important influence on future Russian composers, notably the members of The Five, who took Glinka's lead and produced a distinctive Russian style of music.

@@santiagologioco7971 look out for the generally predictable meter, phrasing, progression of predictable points of modulations and the standard chords used to do this. The key of F minor is also predictably used for inducing a passing feeling of melancholy. At 1:49 there is a predictable change to A flat. Moving to D major there instead could've been seen as less predictable?

the pianist really doesn't follow the sheet. Adding features, secondary harmonies, left hand improvisations, and variations of the melody line. Very well played anyway, one of the most loving piece of music I know

I can't tell whether this is F Minor tuned to 440, or F# Minor tuned to 430. I love it all the same, though; will need to learn more of Glinka, it looks like.

Maybe you like to compare the recording of the 8-year old Trifonow also available here on KZbin Though he is „only“ a child, for me, his interpretation has more soul than this one

When I heard this piece for the first time, it was the one played by that 8-year-old Daniil Trifonow. It sounded so beautiful and pure. I listened to it with tears in my eyes and many times. After that, I tried to listen to the ones played by other pianists as well but to my surprise, it is always and only Daniil’s Nocturne that makes me cry. Thank you very much.

Try to listen to it more times. Try catching the ritardando in the bass chords or the brighter parts, played with some irony, like evoking melancholy or nostalgia
